Help asap please! think i got chinese p990!!!!

So. i got my p990 today. been messing with it all day. dont LOVE it. but its sweet. it doesnt say anything about p990c or anything like that, but i believe i got a chinese version. or maybe this is the only version.
1. the first text i ever tried to send on this, it kept showing me chinesse characters in predictive text, it took me 15 minutes to realize i had the chinesse button pushed on the virtual keyboard.
2. when i go to control panels(shown in grid mode) two of the icons have like a book, with a chinesse character
3. and possibly most importantly when i go to control panels>Device>text input. For virtual keyboard the ONLY input method is chinese. for flip closed all i get is chinese ezitext
i paid 535 for my phone. it didnt say it was a chinese version or an american version. is this something i should be pissed about. or is this the way they alll are, or is there a way to fix all these problems. please help! feel free to IM me at anytime

The phone you have got the Singapore F/W loaded on it. I have the same phone too. As for the Book icon with the Chinese Character is maybe an installed app from the previous owner.

So what's the problem if it has Chinese installed? I have that on my phone.

You can always change it to English.

Well, in your place I would be pissed. You paid the 'regular' amount of $$ for a Chinese version phone. The chinese has the lunar calendar and because of the chinese characters, the phone will always have less ram/rom memory available!

Unless you use a reflashing tool like SETools, where you totally erase and reflash with a European Version FW, you will have no way to ever change that not even through SEUS.

If anybody knows something different/else, let us know

I have had the same problem, the way to fix it is to use the sony update service to update your phone. Even if your phone already has the latest firnware go ahead and update it anyway.

The reason why your phone is only in chinese is because someone may have done a master reset on your phone and that deletes important english files.

i think you can switch the text "language" via the keyboard by pressing the bottom left most key then space bar. i think this switches from chinese to english text.

You are correct.. I fixed the same problem on my m600i using the bottom left key 'abc' on the keyboard.. Switches language to English..

Still need to find a way to get rid of the lunar calendar..

hey guys i found out how to do it

all you have to do is go to messages and once you are on the message creation screen

press # for few seconds and it will change the language to english
