Self-Signed Root Certificates

After months of waiting for, and researching new phones I finally bought a Samsung i607 yesterday. I recieved it late this afternoon and quickly started configuring Direct Push on the client (device) side (as the server side stuff was ready and waiting to roll). Set up is really a piece of cake; I really can't imagine it being any easier until it was time to import and/or install a self-signed root certificate. It is not possible as Cingular has locked the deivce's OS to disable one's ability to install self-signed root certs claiming it is for my own good/protection. I confirmed this with Cingular PDA Tech Support and it is not just the BlackJack which is affected. According to the Tech Rep this ability is locked on the 8525 as well as other Cingular WM devices. I am annoyed that Cingular does not disclose this information upfront and outright before purchase and at the same time astonished at the fact that I never saw, found, or read anything about this issue in my months of researching these new phones. I thought I had done my homework but I failed this assignment. This one little thing deems the device useless to me and I am only one of hundreds of thousands of small businesses in world which has configured my own CA (which is free) to create and implement my own ssl certs and now none of us can utilize our Direct Push technology without having to purchase an expensive (recurring annual fee) 3rd party ssl cert.

Is there any well documented info out there regarding a work around and/or reg hack to resolve this issue of not being able to install self-signed root certificates in WM5 SmartPhones, specifically the Cingular version of the Samsung i607 aka BlackJack?

Thanks, your input is much appreciated.
