My company recently had Sprint/Nextel in trying to get our business back from Tmo and when I asked them about the successor to the 6700 they told me that they would do the same thing with the new phone as they've done with the RAZR/KRAZR, Treo700w, etc... "We like to let Verizon do all the testing for these types of phones so they can get the bugs worked out before we get the phones." I did one of these So don't expect anything competitive from Sprint...sadly

I have owned a UTStarcom 6700 for 15 months. It it the worst phone I have ever owned. Reception it terrible compared to any other phone I have had. I can not hear the ring, the speaker is too fuzzy to understand without straining. The battery life is maybe 2 hours of talk time. I replaced the battery - the new one is even shorter. On standby, not using the phone at all, battery dies in less than 24 hours.

After 7 months I replace the phone with a new 6700. The new one is worse in every way. Now it is off warrantee. I am faced with $200 to replace it plus my 2 gig card from the 6700 will not fit the 6800. Am I the only one that has been having this much trouble???

Other than the phone functions I like most of the rest of it ok.

You think a guy should wait for the 6800 or get the 6700 now?

I am with Sprint & have had the 6800 for a week. It puts the 6700 to shame. It has more memory better battery & better features. go for it.

Is it possible with unlocking to use the Sprint 6800 on Verizon's network, since they're both CDMA?

Posted by: orange93

Anybody have any idea when the verizon version is going to come out?

Posted by: starkruzr

We are supposedly going to hear an announcement this month.

My wife has been waiting for this phone on verizon all year. It was supposed to be out in March. I cannot wait to see when it comes out.

If you could get verizon to activate it there is no reason why the phone portion of the device wouldn't work. I suppose if you could get a verizon ROM for it that you could update the software and everything should work. I doubt the data radio would work without software changes....it might though.

It could be 3-6 months. Get it from Sprint.Data is only $15 a month (unlimited)

Wait - 6700 is very poor as a phone. I am on my 2nd one, it is worse than the first one was. Poor reception. Quiet ring - hard to hear. I miss about f19 out of 20 calls because it does not ring or is too quiet when on full volume. I am on Telus service. The Telus service was good with other phones.

I can't relate to any of the complaints you made so far. I can hear my phone ring across my house in different rooms. Reception is great, battery life is decent considering I stream with orb browse and call quite a bit all day.

The only time I had battery problems was on recent trip to South Carolina in an area where I was roaming almost all the time. That ate through my battery.

I've been quite pleased with this phone. Did a lot of research and playing around and it has exceeded my expectations. Will probably wait till my contract is up and pick the 6800 up when its better priced and Evdo rev A
is officially launched. Plus I hear the 6800 has BT issues at the moment.

Posted by: shellguy

I havent heard of the BT issues of which you speak i have heard that VC doesn't work with bt right now but nothing else.. all in all from the other forums i read they are very nice phones..

Posted by: GREGHARKINS

i got my 6800 last week from alltel

Posted by: jer_stud56

But isn't the verizon one different? I'm waiting for that to come out... heard great things about it, even if it is just hype, and I want one. Bad.

So did I. Do you have any issues with it not ringing?
My phone will be quiet for hours. Then i'll press the power button to wake it up and all of a sudden it starts ringing for 2 seconds then stops...says i have numerous missed calls and voicemails. Turns out everytime people have been calling me and leaving vm's. I've checked every setting and done several soft reset. I thought i had two problems solved: first was too large of .mp3 for ringtones, so i switched to a stock one. Very strange. I know it's not a service issue because i always have full bars at my house.

Any ideas? This is my third smartphone, and second HTC/Audiovox.

You don't have the ringtones stored on the storage card, do you? That was known to cause this problem with the 6700.

Yep..i figured that out. I was thinking the full .mp3 was too much and needed to cut it down. Actually my phone has been working a lot better now that I have completely removed the card. Kind've sad...I wonder if I have a bad card or phone?
