BlackBerry Plan That Includes SMS/MMS!

Just got off the phone with CS. Here's the background:

I just bought a blackberry. For some reason, people at CS don't seem to be very informed when it comes to the various BlackBerry plans. Probably because BlackBerries aren't a very common device among normal customers. Plus, the website doesn't seem to list all of the available BlackBerry plans (unless I completely missed it, but I looked!).

Obviously you need a BlackBerry plan. But the ones listed on the web site (and apparently many of the ones that CS has access to) don't have SMS/MMS inlcluded... so CS had me on the $29.99 personal unlimited plan, and then they had me on the $14.99 Media Net 1000 plan so I could have messaging. Something didn't smell right about this.

Anyway, I spoke to CS again this morning and asked them if I really had to do that. The rep I spoke with this morning found a plan called BlackBerry Personal Max which includes unlimited data, BIS, and 1000 SMS/MMS messages, for $39.99/month and the overage for messages is $0.03. Basically, for $10/month extra, you're adding 1000 messages.

I don't know if this is news or not but I thought I'd post this for anyone else who is confused about the personal BlackBerry plans. I certainly was!

I got this same plan but just got my first bill and it is showing $18.00 for Data Charges in addition to the monthly 39.00. I am being billed for Internet Usage per KB. I just got the phone like a week ago. I thought Internet usage (on the phone not teathered) was considered Data?

Anyone have similar experiences?

It is included. I would call cs and see what the deal is.

Check your features via the online account manager. Sounds like the CSR didn't remove the Internet Pay Per Use "feature". Call them up and they should both fix your account and waive the charges.

Yeah, this is a little bs to me. When you have a blackberry corporate account I would understand but when you are using a personal account, that is a lot of money for the average person using the phone on a personal basis.

While this sounds much better, in reality it is only $5 less then the plan listed above. I think they would sell a lot more Blackberries if they let you use a Smartphone/Pda/MediaMax plan.

Also, not adding 3G access to the Pearl and upcoming 8800 is just plain stupid. I had a Pearl and gave it up after 2.5 weeks.

Great idea except that you're just donating money to your carrier if you provision a non-Blackberry data plan on a Blackberry.

Not really. I'd much rather have RIM get their 3G implementation right than have a 3G BB rushed to market. I can pick up a WM device or a Treo if I want a flakey device.

There's a big difference between "stupid" and "doesn't fit my needs".

Honestly... I've lived on GPRS and EDGE for 4 years. So I figure I can go for a little while longer
