Hey everybody, i am new to the Dash, and i love it. My first smartphone ever!!! I previously had the Samsung T-809 which was a awesome phone, but i needed something better. I am always changing phones, but i dont think i will be getting rid of the Dash anytime soon.

Well i want to know how can i download free cool games to my phone, and certain applications. Like one that i really want is the weather app, because i know my friend has the T-Mobile MDA, and he got the 5 day forcast on his phone. I want this. I already installed TCPMP along with the AAC plug-in.

How can i get these cool things, thanks in advance!!!!

they are all .cab files. so either go to the site on your phone and dl or dl to pc and then connect activesync and cut and paste to phone and then click the file in phone and it will install.

awesome, i just connected to my home network via wifi and went to the site, downloading it right now. wow, wifi is ****en awesome, its very fast. i really appreciate it.

now i can download all the programs onto my phone without sync'ing it.

how can i do this with games now, any sites that have games made for the dash.

ok it installed, i tried to open it but i get an error:

The application (WeatherSP.exe) requires a newer version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.

then when i go to details:

WeatherSP.exe
InvalidProgramException

what do i do now

Posted by: redwildebeast

you need to dl .net compact framework at the top of the dl page

cool, i downloaded a few programs, like word pad, microsoft search. i didnt really like the weather app, because it doesnt stay on the home page. you have to find it and access it. i thought this would be on the home screen. guess not. so are these the only apps out there.

nope there are hundreds to chose from. google is your best friend in times of need.

i appreciate it, i googled it and i can find nothing. sucks, i am removing the dash weather program because its not really suited for me. if anyone finds a weather app that is displayed on the home screen constantly, please let me know.

try fizz weather. it is a plugin for your home screen

The software clearly states that it is for pocket pc.
You really need to do some more research before posting.

thanks, Chris

He's right; that app only works on PPC. There are also free applications located here, along with some other stuff.

we all were or are noobs at some point...
the dash is a "smartphone" not a pocket pc, so you need to make sure your app is compatible with a smartphone running windows mobile 5 (wm5).
i don't have any weather apps, but i hear good things about the fizzpop weather. fyi, it costs $14.99.
good luck

ok i just bought the fizz weather application, installed it on my phone. and its just like the dash weather, you have to click the icon in order to get teh weather. i thought it stays displayed on your phone and you can update it whenever you want to. i chose every hour.

what do i need to do to make it stay displayed?

Posted by: na_rsx

well thanks to Mordred, he gave me some usual tips and guides. i got the plug in i need for it to stay on the home screen, but he tells me i have to put it in my root folder in my application data/home screen, but i dont have a root folder. and i was able to transfer the file to my home folder in my application data folder, but nothing happens.

i was doing this through sync, browsing my phone through my computer. please help, i so want this over with lol.

lol **press any key**

"Where's the any key?"

The root folder is the outermost layer of your device's folder structure. It's like the C: My Computer is probably a better analogy

you installed it in the right directory, but you have to pick that homescreen. You wouldn't expect your PC to set a picture as the desktop wallpaper just because you installed it would you?

Hit Start and look in your settings folder

should have clarified what i meant - when you browse via activesync you will see the device icon (looks different from a folder). open that, then go to the folder i mentioned.

after you have the files there, then go to start-settings-home screen and select the one (by name) you copied in. leave the next two options at "default" then exit. hit your home button and you will see the new screen load. you are done.

I admit I was the same when I first got my Dash, didn't know if I needed PocketPC, Symbian, Smartphone, etc software. I know some was labeled PocketPC/WM5 etc but it wouldn't work properly either.

Maybe if someone would explain or link him to a page that would explain the differences it would help.

Posted by: na_rsx

well i was playing around with my home screen, and i noticed that the file for the fizz weather home screen was still on there, so i chose it and saved it and presto.

i finally got it. i thought i deleted the files, but it looks like there still in there. i also have a few more but i dont want to mess around it.

but thanks to mordred for all the help.
