Any advice on an old lady phone?

Okay so it's time to drag mum into the 20th century and get her a cell phone. I've been looking around and all I can find are small sleek cool looking phones. Great for me, not so good for 70 year olds with arthritis and not so good eyesight.

So anyone know of a larger sized phone with easy to press buttons, suitable for the elderly? oh if it's really loud that would help too. It mostly for emergencies and finding her ladies-who-lunch pals at the mall, so no special features (camera, mp3 etc) required.

So help me out, what kind of phone does your grandma use?

Thanks,
Teruterubozu

i would suggest looking into the Jitterbug. I honestly dont know any information about it, but i have seen pics of it and it looks perfect for what you are describing. good luck

I've read about the Jitterbug, but they seem to use thier own network. Where she lives (new hampshire), service is a bit quirky. I'd hate to get her one and not have it able to function.
At her house and on my nokia, I can get good reception with Tmobile, decent with Cingular, my friends Verizon switches between excellent and dead, depending on which direction she faces. I was hoping to stick to a GSM phone so I can go up there, and play around with some different sims to figure out which works best in the places she's most likely to go, (market, church, mall etc)

so again any advice on big phones is appreciated
Thanks

An unlocked Motorola V176 would fit the bill perfectly. It's got large, easy-to-press buttons, a good size display, a loud speakerphone (and ringers) and really good battery life. I'm not affiliated with any of the sellers selling 'em on eBay - I just unlocked one for my father (he's in his early 50s) and he's pretty happy with it.

Of course, you could also buy one from Net10 or TracFone and use it as intended if she'd be happy with prepaid service.

A nokia 6030, or sony ericsson j220 I think might be a nice cheap option as well.

The Jitterbug uses the Sprint network mainly. Was looking at one of those for my Mom as well, but decided against it as she lives in rural, SC. Verizon and Cingular are best there.

Where in NH? I get very good Cingular and Verizon coverage in most areas, but up in the hills, you can't get much of anything.

I have a Samsung D-807 slider which is pretty easy to use. Numbers on the dial pad aren't that large, but they are when shown on the screen while dialing.
