8700 missing emails

I have had my 8700 for about 2 months now and just set up a microsoft outlook to sync with my pop3 account and I am no longer receiving all my emails A) why is this and B) can I sync a 8700 to receive the emails from outlook instead of directly from my online account?

With pop3 you are downloading mail to your computer, so you won't get e-mails on your blackberry if your Outlook downloads it first.
If you use desktop redirector it will send e-mails to your BB using Outlook, but it only works if your computer is running.
