Ok, so I have been using my Nokia 6820 for a good number of years(poor college student), i love the flip out keyboard and everything else, it has bluetooth, but I want something cutting edge, new, but yet somewhat cheap price wise. Yes i want to have my cake and eat it too.

So I am looking for a phone that has mp3s, camera(3+ megapixal), memory slot, all the gadgets and what not, but i realyl don;t need blackberry, or PDA type things. and being that I just got out of college (yes they gave me a college degree!!) my budget is only $200. Yes a low amount, but thats all I can spare. So any suggestions are welcomed!! thanks in advance.

ohh yeah and I as of right now, I am using Cingular, but any phone that was 3-4 band!!

Samsung A990? But it is only available on Verizon (which you don't have). You can get it for $299 or you can get it free on ebay if you sign up for a new 2 year contract. You probably don't want it since it is only for Verizon people but I thought I would mention it anyways. I'd love it if someone could find something similar for Cingular.

One phone I was looking at was the Nokia n80, but I think it is like 400

Any of the N-series phones from Nokia are EXCELLENT phones. I have seen nothing but good reviews for them.

The Samsung D900 is a good phone to. Its a super-slim (12.9mm) quadband slider. It has a 3.13mp camera.

The Samsung D900 is a compact sliding phone with a 3.13 megapixel digital camera. It's an impressively slim slider - Samsung say the SGH-D900 is the thinnest slider ever - at just 13mm thick and 85 grams in weight.

It forms part of Samsung's "Ultra Edition" range, and the SGH-D900 also has the name Ultra Edition 12.9, the 12.9 referring to the thickness of the handset in millimetres.

In addition to the 3.13 megapixel camera, the Samsung D900 has a 2.1" 240x320 pixel TFT display, 80Mb of internal memory with microSD expansion, stereo Bluetooth, quad-band GSM with GPRS and EDGE and also a TV output. The fact that Samsung have managed to squeeze all of that into such a tiny handset is an impressive feat.

There's also a multimedia player capable of playing back MP3 and AAC audio formats, a digital power amp and document viewer, and presumably the Samsung D900 has all the usual things that you'd expect from this type of handset

and of course you can get one of these for around 300 dollars BRAND NEW or cheaper slightly used.

What about the Sony Ecrisson k800, Its like 350 for the phone, but it looks just awesome?? any thoughts on that?

yep, its good, except you will want the K790a if you are using Cingular because it has GSM 850.

Posted by: PunDogg

I guess you have to have the 850 for it to work with Cingular

Posted by: EChid

yes, Cingular uses GSM 850 a lot and GSM 1900 as well...T-Mobile uses just GSM 1900 until you start roaming on the Cingular network of course.

Darn it!! I really like the k800, is there a big differance between the k800 and k790a

There is really NO difference at all. They are basically the same phone except the k790a has the ever so important 850mhz band and it is about 100.00 more.

I have seen the ratings and reviews for both. I like Nokia's, but they say the Sony Ericssons camera is better than the Nokias. Also I have read that nokia lacks compared a little to the Sony K790a??? Agree disagree, why??

Also what is the difference between the K790a, K790i, K790e??? I just saw that, what the hell are those?? older or newer versions??

Dogg

They are almost exactly the same: the K790a, K790i, K790e and K800...all the same except for the GSM bands that they have. The have almost all the same features except the K800 has video calling (useless in North America). The K790a was simply a North American version of the K800 and it features the same awesome camera, screen, UI etc. no diff. The "i" and "e" versions are for different markets (I think the "e" is Asia but I'm not sure).

PunDogg .. i disagree with you ..
The K800 is nothing more than a dummy phone, symbian the Symbian OS itself gives you the options to put hundreds of applications on your phone which makes it a lot more usefull ..

About the Cam Thing: this is a hard decision .. in my opinion the N73 does better shots at daylight, while the K800 does better shots at night pictures .. you have a purple blurr on N73s night shots, which is definitely a big lack ..

also you have that AMAZING Safari Web Browser on the Nokia N73, which is the best browser there is - you have a cursor there like on the PC, mini-mapping, etc etc ..

If you've been liking your Nokia, then I'd say stick within that brand. I strayed away for a couple of years (Moto, SE, Siemens), and always wanted to get back to another Nokia.

So, I picked up a N73. Awesome phone as everyone has stated. I did 'look' for a month or so, going in stores and borrowing friends phones, etc. etc. to get a chance to look at the various interfaces (SE, BB, Samsung, etc.). Tons of online researching as well.

But, as all things HoFo, we've doubled your budget, and now it looks like you're thinking about it....sorry about your wallet .

I'd say hold out as long as you can to save a few more $ for the phone you really want. The N95 might even be available by then.....and you may never need another phone at all

The budget has increased, but I really want a nice new update phone. When I bought the Nokia 6820, it had just come on the market, its kinda like that wow factor, plus it would be better when compared to my friends phones.
but please keep the adivce comeing
