Can anybody help to identify model and make for this phone? I took this picture from HK magazine which featured a Japanese designer and I really like the way this phone look.

Also, I just bought myself a new-to-me 902sh which should be here next week and can't wait to test it out. I am hoping to add this phone to my collection if it works with GSM 1900.

Looks like it could be a AU phone.

Wanna help us out a little bit, Natt? Let us know which magazine, what the magazine said in the article, what advertisement it was used in, etc. Pulling a picture out of a magazine isn't the most helpful thing in the world. Also, how old is the magazine? That'll help narrow down which generation it is NOT.

This picture was from magazine called Touch, issue 601 Dec 2006. This phone was on page 49 of their segment which featured Mastermind, Japanese designer?, at studio@daikanyama.

Thanks for your help!

That's an NEC phone- DoCoMo N701i(S?). I know because I've seen a couple of those (without the extra design work) around the cellphone market where I live being sold for $25 (which is a lot for a phone that won't do much except take photos and maybe play music). It's WCDMA-only and won't even work outside Japan due to reasons stated in the Panasonic sub-forum under the threads about the P900iV so just go with the 902SH. That looks like some kind of limited edition, though- most of the N701i(S?) phones sold don't look like that.

Yangj08, thanks for clarifying that. I can't wait for my 902 to come in on Wednesday. I hope I will like it more than k790a...

Thanks again for putting this to rest...

You will probably hate 902SH, like I did (kept it for 6 days then sold it)... Why did you get that phone anyway???

I love flip phone want to find one that has a nice camera (for cellphone) so that's why I want to give 902sh a try. I am sure if all goes well, I will probably get a 904sh when it's more affordable.

Yesah, but just so you know- the optical zoom only works at 1x and 2x. It won't step in between- I was annoyed at that issue, but otherwise it takes great photos that come out nicely on a printer. Also, the 904SH hasn't been unlocked yet so you can't use it to make phone calls and stuff without a Softbank service plan (and non-network functions won't work without a Softbank or Vodafone U-SIM) so you'll more likely be looking at the 903SH (prices are rising though as it's been discontinued and the 904SH is still locked- people are turning to Toshiba phones now but those don't have cameras that are as good as those on Sharp phones).

I'm missing out on so much by staying on the mainland... (especially 3G- GPRS is so slow sometimes). Just a question- how does internet work for you (if you're in HK)? I'm wondering because I've had trouble accessing sites outside China recently. I know it's because of the earthquake, but I'm wondering if it's as bad in HK as it is on the mainland, where I had to use a proxy server just to open this page.

Internet in HK isn't subject to the Great Firewall of China for a start.

The fact that the typhoon hit Taiwan gives me a sneaking suspicion that HK get's their internet through Taiwan or another country... and to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised.... or they have a big fat line that goes right up to HK.

Anyway, apparently the internet is up, and it was only down for a few hours. I'm told that by my sister who was actually in Hong Kong at the time. But it's still a big conversation topic.... so I presume it had after effects after the internet was back up.... my guesses are (my sister isn't good with technology) that a tonne of servers went down as a result and there was a big something-on-other aftermath to the whole thing. I do know from a friend (from her blog), who lives in Guangzhou that she had problems too, although I'm not sure if she refers to particular websites or the internet connection or what not... I'm *NOT* an expert on the whole thing.

To be honest, if you're going to live in China, live in a hip city, like Shanghai (which you do), or live in Shenzhen which is just outside HK. You can travel there as much as you want (obviously with visas/HKID card+home return permit/applicaple documents and paperwork). If you live close enough you'll even be able to live off their 3G. Shenzhen will be more expensive than most of China, we're talking everything from food to phones.... but it's cheaper than HK, or that's what I am told anyway.

pure madness!!!! why did they do that???

Posted by: Junglizt1210

i never liked it... not on a brand new phone anyway. it could give an old phone a makeover though.

I just got it today (pumpkin color/HK firmware). It seems to be a nice phone once you get used to all the quirks and learn how to use its menus.

I pop my 2GB SD card in and was able to format it without any problem but saving a picture to the card takes about 9 seconds (too long!). I switched to a 256mb and it only took 3 seconds to save a picture. I could see myself use it as a mp3 player --> phone --> camera though...

Oh well... what to do... ... ...

Posted by: azn_boi_128

u can no use a 2 gig on the 902 it wont read when u put it back on ur computer max is 1 gig and saving a pic should be a lot less w/ anything other then a 2 gig

Posted by: natt108

You are correct...

Posted by: kynkst3r
