I recently purchased this phone and it works well in UMTS but Cingular has said that when not in a UMTS area, it will default back to EDGE yet I have only seen it revert to GPRS. I have NEVER seen it in EDGE mode...has anyone else had this problem?

It does go into edge mode, only problem is you won't know when because there is no dedicated icon for edge on the 8525 but trust me if your connection is realllllllyyyyyy slow then your on GPRS if its bearable then your on Edge.

It does go to EDGE, but it just says GPRS.

Go here www.dslreports.com/mspeed and do a speed test. If you're getting over about 60 kbps then you're getting EDGE speeds.
