P800 System back-up issue

I've had my phone for about 2 months. It was made in France and has the latest VirtualDynamix firmware and U.S. Language Pack. Approximatey 70% of the times I initiate a system back-up, the process freezes (the animated icons continue to animate and the progress bar stops progressing). It does not always freeze at the same point in the back-up process. I'll wait 5 or 10 minutes to see if it changes (it never does) and then I cancel the process using the cancel button. The desktop program will stop and indicate that the phone is ready to make calls. However, the phone screen is frozen in the back-up mode (indicates its still in the back-up mode). The only way to get the phone reset is to remove the battery. I've never lost any data or programs doing this but I do worry about it and possible doing permanent damage to the phone op system. I reset the phone and chances are the next immediate back-up will work fine. Anyone had a similar issue?

BVH, I have the most recent firmware, also from Virtual Dynamix. Haven't had any backup problems via USB on my XP machine.

A couple of things -- you ARE aware of the Calendar bug in the US English version? Some of us, after the firmware upgrade, reformatted our phones and that fixed the bug -- but it did so at the cost of losing the US English pack. (no biggie, IMO)

Perhaps there are other bugs in that pack. Have you tried switching back to UK English and giving it a try?

Also, are you by any chance using the AppForge Booster? That's known to create some backup problems.

LarryH, thanks for a quick resonse. Actually, my P800 does not display the calendar bug. I was very, very surprised to see it reads all days and dates correctly in all calendar views. The back-up problem existed before the firmware and U.S. Language upgrade. I'm running MS2000 on the desktop. I have not loaded the AppForge Booster. I am running Opera but again, the problem existed before its installation.

Interesting about the Calendar bug. Specially if you have the latest firmware from VD.

Are you aware (I wasn't) that you have to open the calendar, click on NEW -- and then click on the date (on the new screen) to see the bug? It doesn't just show up, opening the calendar.

FYI

Opps, did not know that about how to see the bug. Now I see it! I don't go through that process to set new app't so I've never seen it. I guess it will not bother me then. The back-up issue is just a nuisance I've put up with and maybe it will go away with the next firmware or UIQ upgrade.

The US language pack may be thesource of the problem look :

The US language pack is the problem.
If you switch back to UK english it fixes this problem. "

BVH -- You say the backup issue existed BEFORE the upgrade. Did it always exist? Since you got the phone?

If not, what changed? If it worked once, I might consider either re-formatting the phone (you'll lose the US English Pack) and or a master reset.

You'll have to re-install software and re-sync.

Also (just a guess) are you using some sort of Internet firewall on your Win2K box?

Also -- make sure you're using the latest desktop software from SE.

After that, I'm out of ideas. Maybe one of the "smart" guys can help.

Just to probably close out this issue....Dummy me, I didn't realize that the P800 Suite on the SE website was, in fact, an upgrade from my original CD version. I upgraded and have run two back-ups in a rew with no issue. Sorry for the wasted space. Thanks LarryH
