Calendar Alert default changes

I have my favorite Calendar alert set for Calendar alerts. It works fine if I set an appointment on the phone. If I perform a sync, or set an appointment on the desktop, all future meetings set with an alert will be "alerted" by the default phone beep. If I uncheck the "alert" for one or more meetings after having sync'd and then go back in and re-check the alert, my desired alert will be played. I have the latest firmware from VirtualDynamix. Any suggestings? Am I missing something so simple, its right in front of my face?
