The fix is easy. In Internet Explorer, hit Menu/Tools/Options/Connections In Select network: Pick The Internet instead of WAP Network of whatever else was there and you'll get the Welcome to OpenDNS! with the giant orange check mark. |

Connects to: The Internet Access point: wap.cingular User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM Password: CINGULAR1 Primary DNS: 208.67.222.222 Secondary DNS: 208.67.220.220 IP address: nothing Now go back to the connections screen (the wireless manager will be highlighted) goto the advance menu by hitting the softkey menu. Just change the Internet connection: to OpenDNS and reset. Make sure you have cleared your memory cache! Peephole's fix will not work because of the default GPRS overides any settings. You have to create a new connection! To clear the memory cache you have to start your internet explorer and goto menu/options/memory and then clear temp/clear cookies/clear history. If you need to go to the medianet site you will have to change your connection back to Medianet so don't delete it! |

Do that many people really find they get better results with the OpenDNS? Perhaps it is the area that I am in, being I am in 3G so much? |

I did delete the DNS in the registry and found that it will not use the DNS servers without it so you have to add this as "peephole" suggested. You must have your device application unlocked to make changes in the registry. Do a search for the cab if your device is not unlocked. To add the DNS Servers for OpenDNS go to: HKLM\Comm\WWAN1-wap.cingular-1\Parms\TCPIP Create a new MultiLine String Value called "DNS" and add the two servers as its Values: 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 "thanks to peephole for this" Then do this: Goto start/settings/connections/gprs/gprs and hit the right soft key (menu). Just change the Internet connection: to OpenDNS and reset. Make sure you have cleared your memory cache! If you have done all the above! Make sure you are NOT connected to the internet first. Hit the power button once and disconnect your connection if present. Than start your internet (but don't connect) goto the options and clear all your memory. Now power off your device and when it starts you can connect to the internet. Goto the address bar and type welcome.opendns.com and you will get the check mark provided you have done everything as stated. |
| To Ace Ventura: you can't separate these two DNS addresses with a comma. You need to pick multi string, and then add string (for the first one) and add string (for the second one). |

any advice? |

And to pimp i am just going to HKEY_LOCAL_MAC... i believe that is what HKLM is short for. hope that helps |

Beacause I have been trying that with no luck at all, a blank page comes up. Sorry for the trouble, I am new at this, and this seems like the only step I am having a hard time with, setting up everything else was smooth sailing. Thanks everybody!!! |

But before being able to use this app to edit or add settings, you need to "App Unlock" your phone so that these apps may be enabled to usability on your phone.

REG edit, connection settings, wireless off and cache cleared all as per instructed.... From a fresh install is there anything else I may need to take into account? You mentioned something about deleting a previous DNS entry? Is there any info I can give you to clarify. Really appreciate you being so active with the help on this one. |

Yes, its faster, but not so much that it's worth fretting over IMHO.

Make sure you're connecting to "The Internet" not to WAP. That was the step I was missing but now it's working after I went to IE - Menu (right softkey) - Tools - Options - Connections - Connects To: "The Internet". |

One thing I noticed also that irrespective of whether I use the new OpenDNS connection or the existing MediaNet one pre-setup by Cingular, that I now still am going through the OpenDNS servers. Are we sure the OpenDNS new connection is really the key here... I have a hunch its the new registry key that does the work to override the defaults. Any thoughts on this anyone? |

If I merely select "Wap Network" in IE which I left to use MediaNet I get the red check mark and can access MediaNet.
