i have no idea why i can't flash the phone either.
i'm try to fix the shutter silence thing and maybe make the volume on the handset louder, that's all im trying to do. i downloaded that pack that cheese made, and instead of the 810 files i try using k790_R1GB001_MAIN_NAM_1_RED49.MBN etc. dont ask why. i just tried them randomly. i dont speak spanish.

Wow, thanks guys, I flashed my w810i in about 40 minutes! maybe i lucked out having the first code phones.

as some are asking about the constant disconnecting and connecting message, it's normal. i suppose thats how it keeps trying a new code for each connect/disconnect. just wait it out and it will be fine.

and to those who are having trouble getting the program to recognize the phone at all, READ THE FIRST POST CAREFULLY, i did exactly what he said and worked fine for me.
another thing i noticed was when i first tried the flash program on my laptop it didnt seem to pick up, so i tried it on my desktop and it worked, another thing to try if all else fails is to remove the battery, then connect the usb cable AND then push the battery in (of course while holding down on the C key)

hope this was helpful at all, i'm excited about the shortcut keys on my new flashed w810i =D

Read all the posts, got mine after 4 tries with no problems. I was going to get the branded files off a buddys phone and post them but something messed up in the process using FAR Manager and now I had no chice but to flash it.

Sorry guys, but good news is this thread works, did everything I was told to do, got a little antsy when it wasn't working * which is to be expected * just dont fret it. Keep at it and it will work.

Flash files are in and working. Sound is wonderful. Not noticing too much of a difference in the ZuZu camera drivers but I haven't played with it too much.

Do the flash. Hook up your phone, transfer the .thm file to your theme folder and viola.

My MMS and internet didn't work but I got that resolved by going here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp...ps1_1&pid=10376

If that link doesn't work go to: http://www.sonyericsson.com/support, select your country, then select Mobile Internet (WAP) under Software and Setup.

Answer the questions and and install file will be sent to your Phone. Once you finish with the first one look below and you will see the MMS link. Pretty straight forward.

now i`m getting a "configuration error. please contact your network operator" ..

Did you customize it? This is the part that takes about 1-15 hours.

i didn`t choose to customise the FS ... i just flashed it .... it took about 2-3 mins, then a "flashing done, unplug the phone" message appeared...i`ve noticed that i can recieve calls, i can get into the music player, but can`t do anythin` else ....

and also, cand you help me choose what FS to flash, central europe, eu1,2,3,4 or 5 ... i use orange romania, but i couldn`t find any list with a country-> fs correspondence

i dont understand why anyone won't respond to me.

my k790a is now a brick, won't turn on correctly, gives me an error message.

please someone help me. i can't get the phone to stop suddenly finding the pc 30 minutes into the flashing session. i turned off plug and play through services, and it still does it. Help help help my phone is dead please. help.

Best advice I can give is remove any SE software, phone XS (or XS++) and the usb drivers from your computer. Reboot the computer and then install just the USB driver and XS and try again, making sure you choose customize.
Also make sure your using the USB ports on the back of the computer, some have had issues with using the front ports.

ok lets say i do that, i do main, fs, and customize, and i let it run forever.

when it's done, will my phone turn on correctly and work? or

1.) is there a chance i chose the wrong files? or does it not even start the bruteforcing process when you choose the wrong files?

2.) can i choose a wrong customization? im in new york

3.) can i just do MAIN and FS and not choose customization and throw the customization files into the memory card on x:\custom? if so, do i keep the directory structure in tact? (i.e. there should be a folder in X:\custom\own_custpack etc? or just throw the actual files in there?

4.) what about actually changing stuff, like making the volume louder and using the radio without an antenna - do i need to do this entire process AGAIN to do that stuff? or can i do it all at once?? (obviously its more important to me to just get the tihng working again)

Don't worry about the custom files right now, you want your phone working. Just use a generic main and whatever area FS you want and then select customize with the same region.
After that, you can go and change the specifics files you want changes in FAR, and even change the complete Main file without customizing.

people here are extremely unhelpful. so many people have the 810 that not a single person stops to tell you important info on the 790 if you ask.

i broke mine, payed $10 for wotan to fix it, and lo and behold, the wotan drivers are "too new" for me to be able to ever upgrade my drivers to make the phone louder. Awesome.

there has to be a way to fix the forum topics so that someone can actually find the people who know what they're talking about. i think 10/cents per post would keep the BS to a minimum, and the people who answer the questions correctly could get half the proceeds.

The reason I REALLY want to do this is because I have two w600i's. One if from Cingular, which is WSOD. And then mine. I want to pretty much try and fix the one with WSOD so I can be ready if it does it again. That's all I want to do.

lol, he is pretty close...Have you looked at the threads they are mentioning? I know they are for the W810i, but just adapt them a bit for the W600i. Instead of the W810i.ssw file, use a W600i one, if there is one. Then just use a W600i main and FS..

Exactly, just replace "w810" with "w600" as far as how. Top Sony has several w600 files to choose from. Just go there, register if you have not, click downloads, firmware, choose w600, then whatever firmware you want (R7CA017 is the most current) and find a generic main and for general flashing, I would use America 1 FS. The rest is the same as any other phone.

Anyone else having trouble DL'ing the pack from www.filefactory.com.

I am not sure where to go from here. I tried both the link in the guide and the updated link on page 2 or 3 and neither lets me download cheeses pack.

Side question....this will not stop my phone from working on the Cingular network right? It just takes off their firmware and puts back on the original SE stuff correct?

I've had several problems flashing my w810i, but I've finally done it, not without this forum's help. I decided to post some of the problems I've had and solutions to them, hopefully it will help some of you out.

The first problem I encountered was that when I would "Customize File System" with Phone XS 2, my phone would reboot in File Transfer Mode and the process would hang at "Waiting for phone to disconnect" for hours and hours. To avoid this problem, I uninstalled the whole Sony Ericsson bundle and any other phone related software, then I installed the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS - available at http://www.sonyericsson.com). The key to success was that SEUS installed the "Sony Ericsson USB Flash" drivers (instead of the normal USB Flash drivers I had downloaded elsewhere).

Everything went fine from there until I hit "Wait for EaTEbS", and it hang there for hours. Most forum said it's normal - but past 5 hours, I had to unplug and reflash. This is a power problem, and even tough my battery was almost full it wasn't enough. I'm guessing fully charging the battery would do the trick, but I also went into the Device Manager (right click My Computer, select Properties, then Hardware tab) expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." box in the "Power Management" tab for each "USB Root Hub".

Once these things were fixed, my phone was flashed and running in about an hour. Forums say time may vary from phone to phone.

I just join to share this. It is in Spanish but maybe someone can translate into English. I have been using this method for a month now and I had debranded, changed sound, camera and other thing. Never took more than 20 minutes to finish. Hope it helps.

Yes, it is Phone XS in conjuction with FAR that now can access the W810i files. I unbranded my phone including a custom pack and it took less that 20 minutes.

Also, I also read over at the SE-NSE forum that you can't 'finish' the flashing of a phone with PhoneXS. What does 'finishing' mean and can you do it with PhoneXS (at least in the version supplied in the first post of this thread)?

You can debrand your phone this way, all Rogers’s, Cingular or any other provider stuff will be gone. Just make sure you have the correct Main, FS and custom files for your phone.

Yes, it is possible but using PhoneXS alone can take hours, using PhoneXS and FAR takes minutes.

*.thm files go in the Themes folder on your memory stick. .swf files go in /tpa/preset/system/desktop/flash...

another Eatebs question:

I am 100% SURE that my phone is fully charged. I charged it before flashing, and its been flashing/bruteforcing for 6 hours now. Eatebs has been up for about 1.5 hours. I've read that eatebs means my battery is low and I need to recharge, but I am certain this is not the case. I've tried to flash about 3 times now, each time taking 6 hours and getting nowhere (still no bruteforcing). the previous times I have tried to flash, I was never stuck on eatebs, only on this flash. the previous tiems I took fungied.cheese's advice and retried the flash because it was taking way too long, but it never ran to completion on subsequent attempts.

should I leave it on the eatebs message overnight and give it a go, or cancel out and restart (yet) again?

Errr, i think i have a problem.
I've been trying to flash my Orange branded W810i and each and every time after trying to hack in i get something like this:

And the phone goes to USB mode.

What can i do? i plugged it into the back USB ports, closed explorer exe, all to no avail.
The phone starts but it gives me a configuration error after entering the SIM pin.

Im kinda desperate as off now, as i don't know what else to do, nor have a damn internationally usable credit card so i can flash with wotanserver.

Any suggestions?

Thanks alot for the tutorial, surprisingly it was very easy to do. Everything sounds really confusing, especially when so many people have problems. I flashed mine over night, luckily it only took 55 minutes to do!

I have some post flash questions though...

1. How am I now supposed to put ringtones and games on the phone or the memory stick... through the SE PC suite that came with the phone?

3. Can I use FAR manager to put flash themes on the phone instead of going back through the Phone XS process? Also, the things in "manually upload to phone" folder, I'm supposed to manually put those on the phone by using the FSX option in Phone XS?

4. Is there a menu to edit earpiece volume in a call? I know I can change ringtone volume... (btw, haven't tested out the earpiece volume change yet, hopefully the flashing did the trick). *edit - called pharmacy automated menu to see if anything was louder, it definitely is, success!

another question, it somehow flashed main and file system do I need to do the customization flash in order to complete the flash, when I got the phone it was unlocked already, when I got it my tmobile card worked in it, I dont care about custom. just need it to work.

Strange how it doesn't work in silent mode. In the filesystem there should be 4 camera shutter sounds and if you replace one of them with a silent audio file then you can select it and it will be silent when you take pictures.

I don't know where the directory is or anything yet, still trying to find out myself.

I stopped phonexs then unplugged the phone. It gives me 'configuration error' when it turns on so I just turned it off charged, and am currently now reflashing.

im at about 2.5hours already. I think its still brute forcing / no Wait for EatEbS error yet.

happened to me i just took out the battery pout it back in then recharged.

so it froze again at Wait for EatEbS. i had to shut it down because my mouse wouldnt even work. charging it up now, waiting for a third go. second went for around 8.30am till 5.00pm

Hrmm I can't edit my last post. Anyways I just wanna thank magicplaya

. After 14 hours of bruteforcing and still no luck I stopped the process, took my battery out for 30 seconds, put it back in and then it started charging (very slowly though, it was stuck on a white screen for a godo 10-20 seconds).

I got the wait at EatEbS msg... waiting on that now. I just can't wait on this one error for a long time since I don't leave my computer on over night. I know the process is working well somewhat because when i plugged in the phone the phone information shows that I have already flashed it to r4db005, just waiting for it to 'finalize'.

Finally after 3 tries of flashing in 3 days it is done once!

I first just flashed it. then shut down phone xs. reopened. reconnected phone then did the customization. And it hung once at Wait for EatEbS. so i unplugged. removed battery for 30 seconds. repeated and it successfully went through within 10 minutes.

everything works fine as far as i can tell. I'm not too sure if the acoustic set works properly or not it seems the same. the shutter sound is still there even in silent mode w/ customization.xml toggled true.

One fix that I did.. just get rid of the shutter sounds.. for example, I deleted camerashutter4.3gp, and then on the phone i chose shutter sound #4 from the settings.. this way i dont get any shutter sound even if the phone isn't on silent mode.

Ok last night I successfully ran the PhoneXS and debranded it with fungied.cheese files and I even did the FSX transfer of the files_to_upload folder to my w810i. Now it is totally debranded, but I am not sure how to transfer ring tones, music, wallpapers, or games?

I copied over 100 .jar games to my memory card but I don't know how to install them on the phone. I am not sure if I need PhoneXS to transfer mp3s, wallpapers, themes, or music? Or do I just copy it over to the phone? I am over the biggest part but now need some help getting these little things like flash menus to work. Thanks!

So, if maybe I moved the xs++ .exe from the folder to the desktop would that mess with the directory?.....when I run the program will it be a problem for xs++ that the .exe has been relocated more than a couple of times too? And should I reinstall xs++ because of that and try it again.

Last night it flashed both main and fs using the gslide method, I think I interupted both 'cause they both said finishing flash at the end I heard the phoen disconnect from the program and it hung there....... I will try it with any wind. file closed right now.

edit: I forgot to mention now it does not power up either.......

Use usb cord to transfer images/movies/videos/music/games

games go into the other folder on the memcard. to install gointo your phone go to file manager > other > click on one of the games you want to install.

I believe its already mentioned before in this thread, but I'll mention it again for those who didn't see. There's an alternate method of debranding and customizing files posted here:

It is a bit more involved in terms of what the user needs to do, but there's no bruteforcing, and therefore no waiting needed. It worked great for me in debranding and putting the new drivers and stuff on my w810i.

Guys its tookin' me over 50 tries with no go, tha farthest I've gotten is flashing the main and fs now I just need it to finalize, which its not doing. Actually, Wotan bricked my phone - the flash program crashed TWICE (consuming both my credits) before finalizing the phone. :P

Weird...The first time, it identified your phone as "RED", but the second time it says "Unknown". Funky. Try connecting again and what does it say? Red or Unknown or even brown?

I thought that maybe it couldn't find the loader, but your phone doesn't want to accept the loader.

A very small chance it won't work. I know this thread is littered with problems,but *usually* it works. A fool-proof way is to use FAR Manager. It is a tad harder, but much safer if you do it correctly. If you do it incorrectly, it can be far worse than XS++ (pun not intended), so it isn't for the light-hearted.

I notice you have a Cingular W810i. Did you know that there is a shortcut menu, but stupid Cingular made it an Internet Button? Did you know that you can have full-length MP3s as ringtones, but Cingular blocked it? Did you know that you can have hiss-free, super loud drivers, but they aren't installed? Did you know that you can have flash menus, but Cingular blocked them? Did you know that your camera has a faster, better drive, but it isn't installed?

100000% free. There have ALWAYS been programs where you pay and it will work. It took an a$$ load of a time to figure out how to do it ourselves and replicate it safely.

SE updates will update, but it will still be branded and have lower volume.

It would not finalize, I am trying it now on XC but its not connecting, now when I try using FAR, it connects but when I click FS it freezes on the last window when its flashing the program.

Im getting all these loaders from Top Sony are they all bad??

edit: Quick question. I am using the cable that came with the box, Ive seen in another post that the cruiser cable needs to be used, Is the cruiser cable(unlock cable) the only cable that can finalize??

Ok mine just finished and it took about 1 hour 18 minutes. The first time I tried it got stuck on Wait for EaTEbS and stopped it, charged phone, and retried. The second time worked like a charm. Once stuff starts scrolling like crazy your almost finished!

Now to put those theme files on it and I'll be all set. Thank you!

Well I upgraded the flashware with SEUS today. It was quick and easy once I went to a friend's house with WinXP (since Vista and SEUS don't like eachother). My flash themes still work, sound is still loud, and I don't know about the camera detail thing. Either way, I'm quite happy with this phone. Thanks bunches and I look forward to any new things out for it!

Ok here is a new log, I tried a method mentioned here about killing explorer.exe then flash it seems to have helped cause for the first time it tried to unlock it. Loader error which I got b4 seems to be the main problem now and Ive gotten GDFS error too, any help would be appreciated.

Not much if you do it correctly. I think it is.

Best drivers are completely based on personal preference, but check out this thread: Best Drivers for K750 found at SE-NSE.net...

Firmware upgrade upgrades your current firmware (whatever it is) to a later version. It will keep all of the branded icons and restrictions. Unbranding removes all the branded icons and restrictions and if unbranded with a later version, it can also be a firmware upgrade.

Believe it DOES void the warranty.

XS++ is newer, but still beta-ish. Did you think about FAR?

do I first have to unbrand my phone to get these flash menus because I did it and it said it was successful only to find the menus are the same I have a w810i and I used phone xs and use this link for instructions

yes I did all that after i finished flashing i dragged the .thm files to my phone memory and the themes come on but the menu is the same just the themes are different

It is fine, but it is kind of "generic". You can mix and match most things, but make sure you have a main/fs/custpack that are all compatible.

Louder Music + better quality + louder ringtones = Custom Sound driver. Camera thing is in customize.xml, which is in the first post, I think.

Browse around for removing operator logo. MP3 ringtone restriction will be removed after debranding.

Yes & yes.

Main and FS are firmware files. Both include vital info and you need both. But if you flash the FS, you MUST flash a custom pack because the custom pack folder (which is empty) is inside the FS. You can flash MAIN all you want w/o anything else. Acoustic drivers found in the tpa folder in FS. Try FAR Manager.

Yes. You can upload a custom pack via files_to_upload or any files, for that matter, minus the FS/MAIN files.

Sure.

No, there are quite a few already. Many people like qwerty12's sound drivers. They do remove the hiss and are pretty loud.

Custom Pack is a MUST and the phone will not work without it. It holds information like whether to have the flash menus or not; camera shutter sound; menu icon locations (I think);internet settings;ringtone restrictions;and a ton of other things.

Okay I'm stumped. I've skimmed through as many posts as I can thru this massive thread. I followed all the steps in the OP to flash. I've tried four times since last night. I've uninstalled PC Suite, I've turned off the "power off" function in the device mgr for the USB hubs. I've disabled autoplay on all non optical-removable drives via TweakUI.

My damn phone just eventually turns on into file transfer mode and screws up the flash process!

Then my USB keyboard and mouse become disabled and WinXP pops up a caution bubble stating there is unknown USB device connected ...

Any assistance please? I can't figure out what else can cause the phone to actually power on ... nor find anything to disable that function of Winblows.

That and the reason I want to do this flash even tho my phone is already unbranded/unlocked is because the video is screwed up. When I play some games, try to take pics/vids, or try to view pics/vids, the screen becomes scrambled somewhat like a bad TV channel.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with either issue.

EDIT: Just found fungied.cheese's customization.xml thread. I didn't change the xml before nor did I set the finalization to "custom" instead of leaving it at "w810" altho I doubt any of this would affect above.

No ure supposed to put the custpack stuff into the files to upload folder and also the other things that u want to be transfered to the phone with it like the .swf files for the theme menus. if the files to upload folder is empty then the computer is just gonna flash the phone and ure not gonna be able to do anything.

depends how lucky you are, but my average time was 3 hours.. remember you really only need to do that once to debrand.. because after that, you can upload new drivers and change files all you want without bruteforcing and it will only take like 5 minutes to do that.. but you gotta go through the bruteforcing once. its worth it, and trust me theres nothing to worry about.. go for it!

Sorry, but you're a bit wrong. If you continually use XS++ soley to unbrand/upload files, it will ALWAYS require bruteforcing.

What people should use is FAR+SEFP, which is literally a 5 minute process.

I had tried again last night on my home PC and it failed, same reason (phone turned on). That was the fourth time.

I said forget it and got PhoneXS and the flash files set up on my laptop. Went ahead as normal and altho the fifth time failed because it stuck at the "eatebs" line, I charged up the battery to full and gave it a sixth time, which was a charm; 2:20am start, 7:45am finish hahaha.

Moral of the storey, keep pelting the monster with the pebbles and it'll eventually come down.

i used to have the same problem but then i noticed wut it was from. when u use PhoneXS don't use your computer at all. i noticed that rite once i would start using my computer my phone would turn on and i would have to start all over again.

Yes. You got that because you didn't finalize it yet. You must do that before you can flash the phone. That is the custom pack. Customize = Finalize.

Damn, I'm not sure....

After 10 minutes on one SINGLE thing, you should stop and restart. If this is giving you too much trouble, I *highly* recommend using FAR+SEFP.
