BJ Synchronization on two computers?

Hi,

Has anyone tried installing and using ActiveSync on two computers with one BJ? I'd like to use one PC at work as the "Master" and the second PC at home as a copy of my work PC with the BJ acting as the sync link.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think you can do that. You can sync with multiple host PCs, but each sync content type can only be sync'd to one. I.e. you can sync email and contacts to one PC and calendar, tasks, and media with another.

If you try to sync the same content with another, it replaces one. Having gone thru synchro hell in the past, I'm not even sure if you'd want to risk it or if its worth the hassle.

At least that's my experience.

This doesn't seem to be correct for the most current version of ActiveSync. I loaded AS on my home PC and on my work laptop. You do have the option to determine which items get synch'd but it did not limit me to one type of item per PC. You also have the option to decide who is the master, the handheld or the PC you are synching to. I can see if you set both PCs as master you'll have some issues but you can get around that by setting one PC as master.

Another way around this is to use one PC for "backups" and not worry about Synchronization. I guess it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. For me I just want the data in 2 places for recovery purposes.

I have it on my work PC and my home laptop and so far it's working fine. Even using different versions of ActiveSync with my work one running on Windows 2000 using ActiveSync 4.2 and the home one running on Win XP Pro with ActiveSync 4.5 beta. I'm only synching a calendar and contacts though, no email.

I sync my Blackjack on the different computers with no problem. They are both running Active Sync 4.2 and both computers are running XP.

Thanks - this is helpful. When you run on two PCs, as suggested above, is it possible to simply use the BJ as the "Master" on one of the PCs and have it copy data to this computer without synchronization? As mentione, this is probably the safest...

Thanks again - just tried it and it worked fine (contacts, calendar, and tasks only). Work PC synchronizes with the BJ, and the home PC acts as a backup by copying only from the BJ.

yes, in ActiveSync under Tools, Options, you can manage your connections there. There's a Settings button that will open options for you to set which is the master, the PC/laptop or the device.

Thanks! This worked fine...
