vx8600 mp3 to ringtone problem

So I am new to this whole thing... but I am trying to put a mp3 to my phone's internal memory as a ringtone. I am using bitpim to put it on the phone and the song has been resized to fit.

here is the stats on the song.

130 kb WMA
30 secs long.

Whenever play it off my computer it plays fine, when I use bitpim it sends it to my phone and it will show up on my phone as a possible choice. But when I try to play the ringtone as a preview or set it as my ringer, there is no noise. I really don't know if I am messing something up with bitpim or if i'm just an idiot (probably the case) but if anyone else had this problem please let me know.

Thanks
Matt

What is bitpim? I also have a VX8600 and am trying to put mp3's (edited) as ringtones and am also having problems. I have them on my microSD chip and on my comp, but cant get them to the internal memory to be used as ringtones.

verizon sucks and won't let you use your mp3's on the sdcard as ringtones. they want you to buy their ringtones for $2 each. what you do is download bitpim and it will take whatever songs you want and save them to the phone as ringtones.

do i need a cable for that and if so, what kind?

Here is how to use Bitpim and it works for the 8600 just fine - did a couple dozen for my sister's 8600 the other day

and as far as the person who was using WMA files - I found that Bitpim did not let me convert them but it just put them in as they were to load so I did not use WMA format - but wrote them to a RW cd and ripped them off as MP3 - which has given me NO problem.

What I did:
Made a 30 second .mp3
Removed memory card from phone (important)
Mailed .mp3 to my verizon number (for example "1234567890@vzwpix.com")
Opened message (on phone)
Options/"Save as ringtone"

What I like about using the method I described is that Bitpim does the editing of the MP3 for you without have to bring another program into the process - right down to increasing the volume and hearing what it sounds like as a preview before loading it onto your phone.
