Loose stylus on i-mate K-JAM (a.k.a. MDA, 8125)

Hi,

Does anyone have a good suggestion on what to do about the stylus becoming loose when it's locked into the PDA. It used to be seated firmly, but has become loose over the last year of usage. I fear that it may drop out by itself sooner or later.

I wish I could tell you, but I haven't had a stylus in my MDA for about 3 weeks, since my spare disappeared, but i almost never used the stylus anyway.

Go to your local hardware store and buy a bit of the sticky gum like stuff. The product I have is called "UHU tac" I think it may also be known as "Bluetac"

Just put a piece on the end of the stylus, roll it till it is the same diameter as the stylus and stick it in. When you pull the stylus out the gum stays behind and holds the stylus in place when you put it back.

It works very well and lasts a few weeks. I've done this on a couple different devices over the years.

another solution, if you can't find that gum...when i had my treo 650, i also suffered from loose stylus syndrome. i just took a tiny piece (just enough to wrap around the stylus one time) of scotch tape and that seemed to keep it snug.

This must be a common thing with HTC devices. My XV6700 has a notorious loose stylus too. I was just careful with it. Those suggestions seem like they would all work.

Kam, if you do quick search you will find that there was one long thread devoted to this subject of the loose stylus on the K-Jam. Someone had even posted a fix "for the brave", where you would have to pretty much open the device and do a permanent fix, of course that would void the warranty. The problem is that the internal bracket that holds the stylus is made out of plastic and in some instances cracks with use.

Apart from opening the unit up, the most popular solution was what mariod1269 suggests, wrapping the stylus with scotch tape.

Thanks, Marianoz, for the thread. I was searching for "stylus" to no avail. So short of opening up my PDA, I'll try wrapping something around the tip of the stylus to increase its circumference.
