when the cu500v comes out does anyone think there is anyway for us to upgrade theregular cu500 to update to cu500v's.

Posted by: suthurnlatino

I asked about that at a Cingular and they said no. EngadgetMobile also posted about how our 6 month old Cu500s will be obsolete.

Posted by: walkguru

that sucks, they should be upgradeable.

Do both models look essentially the same?

identicle...

too bad no insurance.

Posted by: smcassara

lg rep said that it's only a software upddate that makes the difference, but i don't think cingular would make it that easy for existing owners to get.

Posted by: ItalianAngel831

of course not they wanna squeeze another $300 out of ya to buy it outright well guess what i am just not gonna do it i lived without whatever this update is and i will continue to do so.

Posted by: Gtx1

thats not right cingular should let all of us be able to upgrade. I have this phone now for at least another year and a half. I want the new software...

Posted by: cjmedina

im pretty sure some one will leak it

Posted by: walkguru

lets hope so.

Cingular better just release it, its damn right absurd that they would charge us another few hundred bucks to take advantage of a feature that we should be able to use with our current phones. THe tu500 can perform video calling.........so wtf can't mine!!?? IF cingular really does make me go and buy the exact same phone I currently own with a different software version, I am seriously going to start looking at other carriers.

Posted by: Gtx1

agreed cingular made a mistake y coulnt they release the regular cu500 with video calling in the first place... now they come out with cu500v a couple of months later and charge people to upgrade software on their current phone that should had came with the video calling software to begin with

Posted by: DRC72

I have to agree Cingular should allow us current CU500 owners to get a firmware update!

uh?? how do you figure it should have come out with it to begin with? The feature was not even ready when the mobile was released. In fact it still isn't

Posted by: suthurnlatino

Somehow i seriously doubt that video conferencing will be a a free feature. Looks like another PPT-like charge. On top of that when you bought a Cu500 it was never advertised or sold as a video conferencing phone. I still see people with Cingular RAZRs without the video camera so I doubt you guys will get a software update via Cingular.

I read somewhere on this forum (I can't find the post at the moment) that they will release an upgrade for the CU500 that will allow for video calling AND usage of Memory Cards larger than 1 Gig.

This dude says LG confirmed an upgrade will be available. That'll make my wife very happy.

When the update will be available, you'll be able to call to CS to walk you through it, or go to a Corp. store and they'll do it, and yes the same update will allow higher capacity microsd cards. Also, keep in mind that the "video share" service is one way only. Meaning you send a video, then stop, then the other person can send a video back, and so on and so forth. So you can't be viewing each other at the same time.

It's pretty easy to figure. AT&T Wireless left Video Calling enabled on their two UMTS phones (Moto A845 & Nokia 6651). They did so in order to allow those phones to make video calls when the network was ready to handle it.

Just another way Cingular lowered the bar on technology. Now, by not offering users an update, their just flat out dropping the ball. If this was not the scenario for a FOTA update... I don't know what is.
