Need help with LG VX9900 and data cable. :(

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have an LG VX9900 and a USB data cable. I installed the drivers and plugged in the cable to my PC and my phone, all I get is a message saying "USB Device not recognized," then in the same message it says that the device has malfunctioned. Also, under Device Manager it says "Unknown Device." My USB ports work fine, so it's down to the cable or the phone. Has anyone experienced a problem like this before?

Posted by: gsx6bolt

First of all, where did you get your drivers from? Verizon? Or Ebay?

Second, what program are you using, or are you just plugging this all in to your comp and waiting for something to pop up?

I need more details to help you.

Posted by: xcape151

The drivers and cable are from eBay from a third party. It's not the MEK. It's a cable and a disc including the drivers. I plugged it all up and waited for something to pop up but nothing, then I installed all the drivers and also nothing. I'm using Bitpim but to use anything, I have to get the phone to connect first.

Posted by: gsx6bolt

Well, nothing will pop up on its on. You have to go into bitpim and change the device to lgvx8500 so that bitpim recongnizes the phone. The 9900 is not an option on Bitpim as of now.

Once you've changed it to 8500 you should be able to bring rintones into bitpim from your computer. If it STILL doesnt recognize your phone you may have driver issues.

Ive had too many bad experiences from purchasing drivers/cable from ebay. Half the time they just dont work.

If your left with no choice other than picking up the MEK, just do it. It took me all of 2 minutes to install the drivers and start sending ringtones to my 9900.

Let me know how it goes.

I tried all of that and still no go. QLMobile doesn't work, LG Sync Launcher doesn't work, nothing. Nothing is able to detect the phone. The USB cable came from a third party company who has good feedback and whatnot. The cable is meant to be a data cable as well as charge the phone. It charges the phone, just doesn't let me transfer anything. Oh well, I guess I'll pick up the MEK then. Thanks for your help!

Also, Bitpim says it failed to auto-detect and could not detect any candidate ports. I'm guessing no solution, huh? I think maybe I might have messed something up with the drivers because it says not to install drivers while the phone is connected and the very FIRST time I connected the phone, it said "Found New Device - LG CDMA Device" or something like that. Maybe I should exchange it for a new phone?

Posted by: gsx6bolt

Ight listen this is what you need to do. If this doesnt work, there is a problem with your drivers and bitpim isnt recognizing your phone as a modem.

Open up bitpim.
Once bitpim is opened, click on the icon with the wrench and the screwdriver
Change the phone type to the lg-vx8500
Select ok
Youll notice the bottom right detecs Manually Set to lg-vx8500

Now your done. If your not able to send or get info from phone, the drivers are bad.

Keep me posted.

Yeah, drivers are bad, haha. Are there any universal drivers or anything? Or will I be forced to pick up the MEK?

Posted by: gsx6bolt

You need the 9900 OEM LG Drivers, and unfortunatly thats what ppl post they have on Ebay, but their full of ShITtTt.

If you dont want to pay $30.00 pick up the MEK, install and drivers and take it back... Say it wasnt what you expected.

Posted by: xcape151

I don't think I can take it back because I was talking to the guy at Verizon and he said they can only exchange it. The company I bought the USB cable from had very good reviews and whatnot, so I thought it was either the cable or the phone. The Verizon here is getting their shipment in tomorrow, and they should have some 9900's so I'll go and exchange it. Also, the company shipped out another USB cable too.

I should be able to obtain the OEM LG drivers that come with the MEK elsewhere though....

Posted by: gsx6bolt

Naw the guy at the Verizon is full of ****. Go to a different store if you have to. If you have a reciept, you can take anything back to Verizon, as long as theres no damage or wear on the product.

Posted by: xcape151

Yeah, I'm going to wait until I get the new cable from the eBay guy. I swapped out the phone at Verizon and connected it to the cable. Same problem, so it has to be the cable. I'll just wait on it, and hopefully it works. If not, I'll pick up the MEK.

I don't know if you're still having this problem, but something I did solved it, but the details are a little bit fuzzy...I downloaded the two bottom downloads from this page http://global.mobileaction.com/down...lID=676&go=+Go+
attempted to install them, but it failed because I was using a different cable, but then I let windows auto detect my hardware (after the failed installations) and windows installed it, probably from remnants of the drivers I dled...

I'm a new howardforum and enV user here, so if this is repeat info forgive me...

I got a USB cable as part of a 3-pack with a wall charger and car charger through Amazon. For software/drivers, I got them through this site. It gives you the vcast music manager and phone drivers. Free download, but it's big, about 25 megs. The music manager seems a little clunky, but it recognizes my WMP playlists. I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but it definitely recognizes my phone.

After installing the above, BitPim works perfectly.

Good luck!

I got this problem. Does anybody having the same???
I was successfully connected to my new LG-VX8500 White but when I try to transfer the phonebook and ringtone to the phone, I received the following message "Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider". What happen? Is the new phone being block nowaday? is there anyway to get arond it?

I have the MEK but I lost the cable. Purchased a cable with ebay and I have same problem with both drivers from MEK and drivers from included CD.... ?

Posted by: C DM

Perhaps something from http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1169537 could be of some use?

Posted by: Xpat1

You can get the software from www.bitpim.org and you can download the drivers from www.datapilot.com or www.rpiwireless.com . If you can not find them there, feel free to send me a messege and I will email them or find the link for you. Also, I have worked on my phone for a long time so I can even help you get it working. bye...

what does that mean exactly ?

the PC will never see the phone as a mass storage device, when the drivers are working it will show up as a MODEM on a com port.

to transfer files to the phones internal memory you need 'bitpim' free software

for music/mp3s and videos and wallpaper it is easier to just buy a memory card, have the phone format it to create the correct folders, then use a card reader and just put the files directly on the card with the PC, then putthe card in the phone

if your saying the mek doesn't sync to the phone, likely you are doing it wrong

verizon made it backwards, the phone is NOT mass storage so the PC doesn't see that way

you plug in the cable, then use the phone vcast menu to chose sync, then the mek VCAST music software on the PC will run and sync your music

the PHONE has to initiate the transfer ( start the process ) NOT the PC

http://rapidshare.com/files/4695891...900_cd.zip.html

Its a link for the LG VX9900 drivers RIGHT OFF THE MEK CD.
This should help a lot of you out there.
Happy downloading!!!!

AND here's how do install your lgvx9900 on Vista...(thanks to KillerGremlin on jcxp.net)
(link: http://www.jcxp.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=15901)

"First, I installed the latest version of BitPim (http://www.bitpim.org/). I hooked up my phone to my computer via the USB cable, and opened BitPim. Much to my dismay, bitpim did not find the COM for the LG Modem.

However, Vista popped up the window in the taskbar telling me that new hardware was detected but could not be installed. I went to Start > Search > Device Manager
Once the Device Manager is opened up, you should see an unknown hardware profile for the USB cable/phone. In my case, Vista seemed to recognize the fact that it was a LG USB Modem, but didn't have the driver. Anyway, right click on the unknown driver and select "update driver software." Surprisingly, Vista will tell you it found a driver. Unfortunately, when when you go to install the driver 2 new unknown drivers will appear.

To fix the 2 unknown drivers, all you have to do is insert the VCAST Music Essentials disk into your disk drive, and point Windows in the direction of the files for the drivers on the VCast Music Essentials CD (in my case, the D: drive).

Windows finished the install, and from their BitPim recognized the cable on COM5."

I have the data cable and music manager that came with the voyager and i am using the cable for my env but it will not connect i have tried making the phone the 8500 and made it com port 1 and all. =( it just wont work =(

Posted by: jlb21

So the cable can be used to charge.....cool....that is all I am looking for. Where would be the best place to buy an inexpensive, but reliable cable from for my enV?

Posted by: turboluder

Just alittle info on my problems with my cable and drivers. I gave up trying to get my phone to work with the cable so i went out and got a memory card and transfered files and mp3s that way. But i was thinking the other day WHY THE HELL WONT THIS PHONE WORK ON MY PC even with a fresh install of windows?? after thinking long and hard its been quite awhile i said to myself. maybe this cable is broken **** i got off ebay. but im to cheap to buy and other one. So i noticed u can take the plug apart to thats what i did and noticed ( One cable had fell off one of the posts) SO there was my problem to all this bs since when i first got the cable it worked but not for long. so alittle solder fixed my problem.

Well first off this is my first post so I’m kinda a retard but I am looking for some help. I have a Verizon 9900 and just got a warranty replacement and was wondering if there was a way to get my calendar, ring tones, and old text messages off my old phone. Any help would be great.

As mentioned in another thread about this, BitPim would probably be the way to go for at least some of that.

Ok, your phone has to conact your computer to initiate the transfer.
here are the steps.
1. If you all ready have the software installed skip this or go here for software and drivers. http://www.vzam.net/vcastmusic/
2. Plug in your usb to your computer and your phone
3. Turn on your phone
4. go to Menu, click left arrow button to select Get It Now
5. From the Get It Now menu click on Music and Tones
6. From the Music and tones menu go down and select Sync Music
7. Click OK and you will see the Sync Music box open up and there you GO!

your computer should recongize the device. access the sync music menu everytime you want to put music on you phone. However, you can't sync a movie, to do this put your memory card in your card reader of your computer and transfer the video to the card. Make sure you have the correct format or the video won't even show up much less play. Good Luck

i'm with comrad, bitpim is the way to go. if you want to check it out and see if it helps, one of lg's sites, www.lgcommunity.com explains how to do all of that with step by step instructions.

Yeah, quite a few threads about it all here at HoFo as well, in particular in the VZW LG sub-forum when it comes to the LG enV.

I can't get mine to work my cable works, ive used it before, but now im using vista I tried installing the drivers like i did for XP but it didnt work so I downloaded the ones peope uploaded on for the LG-VX9900 and it still doesnt work despite it finding the drivers when I plug it in now when I go in the ports option the one where you can hit refresh and stuff there no ports that show up is that my problem?

Posted by: Skeletorbones

when you download the drivers at the lg site www.lgcommunity.com under the file library they give you all the files you need for either xp or vista all in one zipped folder. once the entire folder is downloaded you will all the drivers. hopefully it is as simple as just uninstalling what you have and reinstalling the correct drivers from lgcommunity.

Posted by: Bakuryu

The only have WinME, 98 and 2k not XP or Vista.

Posted by: C DM

What about directly from VZW at http://www.vzam.net/vcastmusic/Step2.aspx?maker=LG ?

I think Vista already has drivers (in many cases) as well.

Posted by: Bakuryu

When I plug it in it gives me an error saying it recongizes it but it can tell what the hell it is or something along those lines.

Posted by: Bakuryu

Sorry for the double post but I really want this to work I downloaded the drivers straight from Verizon and still nothing when I connect it Vista shows a pop up saying there is an unknown device plugged in. Bitpim doesnt see it and neither does the verizon music program, also in bitpim when I try to find port like COM1,Com2 non show up is that normal?
