This section is for series 40 & 60 wallpapers. From my experience the best filing to use is JPEG with low or medium resolution because it doesn't use as much memory on your phone. Keep in mind that the pixel sizes differ between models. Series 40 (5100, 6100,6200, 6220, 3510i, 6800, 7210, 7250) all go by 128 x 128 in pixels. Series 60 (3650, 7650) go by 176 x 208 pixels.

Posted by: adam_nguyen

I've notice that most pictures saved from Photoshop is over 7kb with low or medium quality.
There is one solution that I've find useful in reducing the file size.
That is open the rendered JPEG from Photoshop into Microsoft Paint and save it again,
after that most of your pictures are 4kb and under.
I hopes that helps

Posted by: Darla

Thanks for the tip Adam!!!

Posted by: Elvardo

I've found that using wallpapers of 128 by 128 will not show correctly (full screen) on the 3510i.

If you resize them to Width 96, Height 65 you can get them full screen.

Hope this helps.

Posted by: sonic_cd

minor addition, the 8910i is under the 95x65 picture size.

Posted by: NHOI1984

i cant even get my images to become wallpapers am i suppose to save them in a certain place. How come im never given the option to make the image my wallpaper. oh i have 3650 by the way

Posted by: jh811

it's really easy to email yourself these pics thru www.nowmms.com

much easier than trying to transfer by cable or whatever

Posted by: kuno

about 95% of the images i save are below the 7k mark Adam. I don't know what your level of knowledge with Photoshop is so I don't mean to sound like Im talking to a newbie.. But you do know that there's a slider on the right of the save screen ( when you go to Save a Copy As ) that adjusts the optimization level to get it where you want.

Posted by: Stylo

Photoshop gives you a few different methods of saving an image as a jpg. The one that yields the smallest file size is the Save For Web option.

You're wrong.

It's 176 x 134 for Series 60

If you don't have cable, IR og BT, try www.euploader.com for transferring your wallpapers (or whatever files you want to transfer).
It's free - requires wap...

Also to add on, when saving from MS Paint, the JPEG quality is horrible. and when saving to a GIF format, it doesn't give you the choice to save primary colors, it just saves it with a standard universal 256 color format, in Photoshop you can save primary colors. What I do is I make my background in Xara X, then save it as a BMP, open it in Photoshop, and save it as a GIF that probably has he same quality, just smaller.

my WAP site is 'http://www.jimboscomp.com/nokia_fun'. It's actually accessible through a regular internet browser since i use HTM pages instead of WML. Just easier to preview things in the longrun through a computer without having to test it in a special WML browser or a phone. hhm...do you have a WAP site besides the one you have posted, Then I could link ur site awin24 from my WAP site.

nah, i don't have wap... i like your website you have good quality pictures... i have banners you could use to put for your website... if u want we maybe able to exchange banners instead of you copying pictures from my site to yours... just an idea

Posted by: jimboscomp

I don't mind that...how would you like ppl to be able to upload the pix to their phone through WAP though? I usually place the picture on my WEBSITE (NOT my WAP site) and say something like "thanks to " " for allowing permission to use the following graphics." But if you would like ppl to just see a banner for ur site...kool! Although, the banner that you have as your signature on HOFO may be a little too etchy for my website, I have strict graphics guidelines for my site, so if you have another banner you would like to use, just post it...then I'll post my banner as well...

Hi I have a question regarding Nokia wallpapers.

I downloaded several wallpapers from the Nokia website.. all seem to work great.. but when I was told about www.myphonefiles.com I was pleased to know that I could upload my very own pic at no cost. The only problem is the graphic doesn't take up the whole screen as the presets and the ones I downloaded from Nokia. Is there a way around this?? I have a Nokia 6800.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Posted by: jimboscomp

The pix you uploaded may have not been 128x128 pixels in size. in this case, they will not take up the whole screen. If you have Photoshop or some photo editing program, you can resize our pix to be 128x28 pixels in size. Though it may distort the picture if yo do that, depending on the past dimensions of the picture, and how small it was to begin with. Remember while increasing the size of a picture, it pixelates the picture as you increase the size more.

If you use photoshop, when svaing the file, use the Save for Web option to get the smallest possible file without killing the quality of the pic.

Posted by: Panthera

The pics I uploaded I edited in Photoshop.. and were 128x128 and still don't fill up the screen. I'm assuming there is no way around this. The Nokia downloaded wallpapers work wonderfully.. I suppose I'll just have to stick with them, unless of course I can figure out how to fill up my screen. Thanks.

Posted by: jimboscomp

wow...im baffled over that...umm...i have no clue how to get around that, the only alternative is to upload the photos via WAP, which will only cost you the amount charged from your service to download (AT&T: $0.03/KB | Cingular: $0.005/KB) You can always send them to me and i'll put them on my server for you to download them to your phone. I just signed up at that website you mentioned and I will check it out and see if i get the same results.

Posted by: Panthera

I think I may have figured out my problem. Some how when I saved it as 128x128 and click on details on my phone it says it's only 120x96. So something went wrong there. I will try to fix that.

My next question.. is there a way to delete wallpaper pics from my gallery folder on my phone?

Ooh that would be great! Just incase I'm doing something wrong. How do I send you the pic? And should I send a larger one.. or send one thats 128x128? Thanks!

Posted by: jimboscomp

OK, you can (1) register at my site for free and upload your wallpapers and rintones there anytime you like (http://www.jimboscomp.com), OR (2) you can directly e-mail them to me. Either way I'll put them on my WAP site for you.

jclack@jimboscomp.com

I found out that on the myphonefiles.com, it's no different, you still use WAP if you go through them, so it is never completely free to download the wallpapers whether you go through me or the myphonefiles.com servers.

Thanks, and yes I understand it's not completely 'free'.. that's not the real issue.. my problem was that it was not completely filling up the screen when set as a wallpaper. I may have to play around with it a little more. I've had it about.. 12hrs so I'm very new to this phone. Thanks for all your help.. and if I run into any problems along the way I will send you the pic so maybe you can figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks again for your help.. I appreciate it!

Okie! Have fun with our new phone (6800)...i'm probably gonna get that as a secondary phone when i switch service providers....

Posted by: tayo_e2

Does any1 know of a site I can upload my wallpaper and send it straight to my phone without having to retrieve it from a WAP site?

Posted by: jimboscomp

I think we've all tried this, and VERY FEW have been successful. I've tried e-mailing the pix over (failure), sending an MMS message to my phon from my comp (failure, no programs to do that anymore). The most efficient way to do these image transfers would to buy the DKU-5 cable or a cable compatible with your phone and transfer the images that way with a program such as MOBIMB, Oxygen Phone MAnager 2

Posted by: technod

Here is my question. I'm new here.
When we update to phone through PC suit 5 "Image Converter" the programe asked for the compression 1 to 100. I want to know which size is the best for the passive screens like 6610? I want best image but sometimes when i give 100% the image flickers or lines appeared. Any help would be appreciated.

that's when you are putting up a JPG or JPEG picture... the less the number is, the smaller the file size is and the blury and crappy the picture gets. if you choose 100%, you will get the best result your screen can handle, bcuz the picture will be on the highest quality and the largest size which will not exceed the original file size.

i hope it helped

I have a question. I have an N70 and when i view any picture of any size in the gallery its pin sharp and crystel clear. If i set any of those pictures as wall paper the quality is pretty much half for some reason. Blurry and out of proporsion. Why does the desktop not have high resolution??

Posted by: Guttermouth

Just to add my experience to the thread and since I don't see much talk about the 6010 phone I want to help the next person searching for it. Odd that the 6010, being an entry level phone and therefore cheap and probably lots of them out there, is almost never discussed. Perhaps that has to do with the majority of people using this phone are not very technically minded or don't care about modifying their phone's wallpaper and such. Anyway...

The 6010 (and the 3595 by extension) use 96x65 graphics, so a lot smaller than many of the other Nokia phones that now use 128x128, etc. I grabbed some simple graphics from the web and resized them to 96x65, saved as JPGs and then emailed them to my phones email address. The emails arrived tagged as multimedia messages and I was able to view, save to the phone, and set as wall paper each on no problem.

The only thing to be aware of is that the 6010 screen tends to stretch your graphic top to bottom, so a circle will look like an oval. So if the proportions are import to you (like a logo that is circular) and you want to display without the distortion, then when you modify the graph to fit the phone, also squash the graphic a bit so when it gets on the phone, when it gets stretched, it is back in the correct ratio. I found something like squishing the height about 85% works well.

To help, the way I do it is I open a default screen for the phone in my image editor of 96 x65. I then open my graphic separately and resize it so it is small enough to fit on the 96x65 window, but while resizing, squish the height a bit so the height is about 85% of the width. So in other words, say you find you have to reduce the graphic by about 70% to fit the Nokia window, turn off the checkbox that locks the ratio and set the height to about 60% (.85 x 70 is about 60). Now use the selection tool to select the part you want on the phone. Do a copy or cut, go back to your 96x65 image window and paste in your squashed graphic. I like to make my graphic small enough so it stays in the middle of the screen and the menu items, battery & signal indicators, and the provider name all on the screen do not overlap the graphic a lot. Now save as a JPG and email it to your phone.

Minor addition to the FAQ. Nokia 6255i uses 128x160 pixel images for the main display, and 96x65 for the mini diplay. It can use animated GIF for both, apparently with no size limitations.

Posted by: Emerogork

Keep in mind that the pixel sizes differ between models. Series 40 (5100, 6100,6200, 6220, 3510i, 6800, 7210, 7250) all go by 128 x 128 in pixels.

I have been going around in circles with Nokia, they just don't seem to understand, or maybe they don't want to (-:

All I want is to have a very simple white background so I can at least read the information ont he screen. I can see the wallpaper images using Bluetooth and would like to edit one to make it all white. Then use bluetooth to send it back. Any suggestions in how to edit it?

I tried to take a picture of "white" and it does load as wallpaper unfortunately the image is so poor that it is just as worthless as the provided images.

Thoughts welcome

Hi there,
I'm currently working on wallpapers for nearly all nokia phones. But i've got an annoying problem about that. I cannot find a list of all phones and their wallpaper sizes. I'm slowly gettin' nuts cause of that.
Can please somebody help me out before I crash my head into the screen?

Thx

Posted by: Guttermouth

Shadowfriend,

Your request is rather open ended in that I am sure none of us want to dig up a comprehensive list for you. Since YOU are the one compiling the specs for all the phones, perhaps it would be more effective to list those models you needs specs for. Or list the ones you are all set on and ask for models OTHER than those.

PT

Posted by: shadowfriend

Well the problem is that I need to check every single phone and yet hope someone already knows the location of a complete list.
And believe me...you wouldn't want me to post about 200 different handsets^^

It's quite hard to find all information about the handsets although I'm looking for it for over a week now and still found general descriptions of series40 and some series60 phones. Mostly only the display resolution is to be found around the web but not the wallpaper sizes.
4 Sony Ericsson phones I already found a complete list so I think there must be one 4 Nokia phones, too...somewhere (at least I hope so )

Not true. I have the 6102i and it has a 128 x 160 screen, and it is a series 40 vs 2 phone. Even different model "families" do not have the same features through all the phones in that family.

Posted by: shadowfriend

As it seems there is no complete list around the web

So I first try to find the wallpaper sizes to these handsets:
Nokia 1108
Nokia 2128i
Nokia 6255i
I found no information at all about them. Perhaps you can help me out

Posted by: shadowfriend

It's me again^^

I've got a real prob now. Does somebody know the wallpaper size of the nokia 5500? It is the only S60 Device with a 208x208 display so I cannot work with the lists I have.

Please help me on this one.

Does anyone know the resolution the Nokia 6315i has? I have tried making various wallpapers for it and none of them fit. Also, if anyone knows the resolution for the outside display screen I would really appreciate it, because I'd like to make custom wallpapers for that screen as well. Thank you!
