I am corruntly with T-Mobile and I am switching to Sprint to get better coverage and better insurance for my new phone. I need help trying to pick one out though. I have looked at the new Motorola i 502 and these seem OK as they have walkie talkie capability. Is Sprint coming out with any other walkie talkie phones? Can a Sprint costumer talk to a Nextel costumer with the walkie talkie and not get charged?

You can use a wider choice of phones on T-Mobile, I too would recommend you stick with T-Mobile. You can't change phones as often without calling Sprint up if you need to.

Their coverage ain't all that bad from I hear to be honest. I really depends if the Areas YOU travel into are covered, not just because there is better coverage nationwide for it. I would still recommend TMobile over Sprint any day though.

I'm not too sure about any new phones on the horizon. But it does sound like you've done your homework if you know that Sprint will get better coverage at your location. It might just be a CDMA thing in your area. Find the carrier that works best for you and talk to as many sources as you can find, and people who know your area better area better resources for information. I am just a little curious though, are there any other carriers in your location? T-Mobile and Sprint are both PCS carriers so you should have at least 2 other options. Chances are it's Cingular and Verizon, which aren't any morally better companies than Sprint and Sprint's offerings are better than either of them. Though if Alltel or US Cellular is available in your location, they would also be great options. US Cellular has free incoming calls while Alltel has My Circle. Neither carrier cripples phones and the plans are often a better value.

But back to your original question, as far as I know, the M2M between Sprint and Nextel is still charged. Also, very generally, most carriers try to release their phones before Christmas, not right after, so you probably have a couple months to wait for any new, groundbreaking selections.

edit: Just to clarify, I agree with everybody else, if T-Mobile is an option, I would go with them before Sprint. Prices are better, phones are better, and customer service is better. But I'm just assuming that you know Sprint has the coverage you need in the area you travel and T-Mobile doesn't. I mentioned Alltel and US Cellular, possibly Verizon earlier because chances are, if Sprint is better than T-Mobile, it's because of a roaming partner in the area, in which case it would be better off going with that carrier because Sprint rarely covers an area better than T-Mobile.

As of now, the "walkie talkie" or Direct Connect feature can only be used Nextel to Nextel. Sprint has their version, called Ready Link. They only work Sprint to Sprint. There is no Nextel to Sprint or vice versa with Ready Link or Direct Connect. I do believe that you can call from one to the other without being charged minutes, but as always, check into it.

I would stay with T-Mobile. I had Sprint before, and it was pretty horrible. You cannot switch phones easily, you are stuck with the phones that Sprint has, and only those phones. The customer service is terrible. The coverage is mediocre.

I know that T-mobile does have a few good things going for it but customer service is not one of them. I have a nice Nokia 6103b camera phone that has worked great so far. I accidently broke the front screen and T mobile said I have no insurance on it. Then the person I am talking to offers me a new Motorola v3 for 29.00 if I sign a two year contract as I am month to month now. He even said this new one will have insurance. I basicaly called him a bold faced liar as that was the same song and dance I got when I purchased my last phone. He went on to apologize and insisted that it would be insured. I declined as this is the second time this has happened with t- mobile.
As for coverage If I am in any type of building the phone barly works if at all. But my friends standing alon=g side me with a sprint or cingular phone get great reception.
I do not go out and purchase the newest hottest phone out there. I have better things to blow my money on. I wait for a nice one to show up at a decent price when I retire the old one. I can usualy get a year or two out od a phone.

Verizon and Cingular offer the best coverage nationwide. You really need to look at where you use the device - where you live, work, play and travel. If you go overseas - Europe especially, Sprint will not work. I can't recommend Sprint due their lack of coverage outside of the major metros.
