Cingular, >1MP camera, video capture, mp3 player, nice screen

The only "definite things" are that I'm going Cingular, and that I'm not interested in a data or online plan. They're cool features, but I'd rather not pay a monthly service to browse online maybe once a week while in line or waiting between classes- and I don't receive many emails, so it doesn't phase me much.

So I'm looking for a high-tier phone that doesn't necessitate anything other than a voice plan. I'm going to use it for voice and texting. Camera is important- prefer >1MP, video capture required. It'd also be cool to use as an MP3 player. I'd also really like a nice sized, crisp screen so I can use this to organize my life. Decent calendar software is a necessity.

Smart phones aren't out of the question, assuming that data on them isn't required, as I understand it is on the Blackberry.

My first thought was the Samsung D807, but after hearing bad things about reception, I opted against.

The Sync, 3125, and CU500 all look good, but I'm all ears for anything else.

I suppose that any unlocked GMS phone is fine, but I'd like to just go with Cingular for the huge contract discount.

I really don't like the look of the w810, though its features look great.

If you like the Blackberry Pearl or something of that sort than go for it...data is not required on BB's (I am using one without data right now).

Posted by: Organichu

Pearl has numerical keyboard, right?

Any thoughts on something with a QWERTY?

SE w810i has Walkman MP3 player, pretty nice 2MP camera, great reception, and Cingular has it for free.

ps it also has bluetooth, voice recorder, nice screen, and some other nifty stuff.

Hmmm. After watching the video review of the 810i, it looks almost too good to be true... the matte black actually complements the rubbery looking buttons. I'm liking the look more and more.

What's this I hear about staticy reception, though?

Also, on Cingular's website I'm seeing this:

Sony Ericsson W810i
Price $324.99
2-yr Contract Price $174.99
Mail-in Rebate - $100.00
*Your Price $74.99

Am I missing something on the price? I actually do think 75 is a great price- I'd probably be happy with 175, really. Looks like a great phone, just hoping those rumors about static aren't true.

Where are you getting good reception? I'm in NYC (Queens), and Philadelphia.

there are dozens of threads in the SE section on the w810. Check them out. My gf and I are very happy with our phones, been over a month. Best phones we've ever owned.

Static during mp3 playback... yeah its true, but my gf can't hear (i can hear it on her phone)and I've flashed mine to get ride of it.

We made $25 per phone through rebates + $0 for the phones, but we are new to cingular and went through amazon.com (Xmas special) I know if you hunt down the phone you can at least can get it for free.

W810i would make a great phone imo.

Posted by: ace587

agree w810 will make a good phone

Some of my female friends think its to boyish (the w810i), but then I showed them the white one and they were like "Ohmygod I want one, is that the new Ipod phone", and i was "no its the same phone in white"...

In the end, the black w810i is for the men, and the white w810i can go either way.

Posted by: ace587

depends, some people like white too

Thanks, all. Mind's pretty much made up- w810 it is.

I also really like the k790a, but hey- not a 300 dollar difference worth of like.

Appreciate all of the help.

the ipod phone (we're talking about the motorola's here, not the iphone) is rubbish imo.
