904sh video encoding questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Lawson1024

I'm interested to know which encoders people are using for the 904sh, and what settings (audio bitrate, video bitrate, resolution, fps etc etc) have been found to be optimal.

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

I would use 3gp converter + QT 7 Pro if I had 904
In order to use this you have to modify transcoding.ini (first chose 3GPP+AAC general setting with xvid in setup).
In transcoding.ini add "items" like this:

[Item78]
Title=VGA•WŹ€‰ćŽż30fpsƒXƒeƒŚƒI
TitleE=3GP VGA 30fps 768kbps Stereo 44khz 224kbps
Command0=""<%AppPath%>\cores\ffmpeg" -y -i "<%InputFile%>" -timestamp "<%TimeStamp%>" -bitexact -vcodec xvid -fixaspect -s 640x480 -r 30 -b 768 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 44100 -ab 112 -f 3gp -muxvb 64 -muxab 32 "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp""
Command1=""<%AppPath%>\cores\QT3GPPFlatten" "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp" "<%OutputFile%>.3gp" -c QT_3GPP(MobileMP4)_QVGA_AAC.ini"
Command2="rm "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp""

"Item" number must be following number!

Example above will encode 3GP file with VGA 30fps 768kbps video stream using XVid encoder and 44khz stereo 224kbps AAC audio stream. Audio bitrate is too high (Sharp phones will not play anything above 128kbps in 3gp video) but I set this on purpose. 3GP converter is not really best AAC encoder (but very good and fast video encoder) so I encode audio at very high bitrate and than I reencode only audio stream in Quick Time 7 Pro to get best possible quality.
Just open file in QT, choose export to 3GP (mobile mp4), in options set video to "pass through" and audio to 96kbps 44khz stereo (112kbps for best sound quality) and encoding quality to "best". If you want to save some mem card space you can set audio to 64kbps 32khz stereo.

I don`t know how high can be video bitrate, 768kbps is mid-low value for this resolution but should be enough. You can also lower framerate to 15fps, this will increase quality a bit and will give you smoother playback on TV.
This method is working well for 903 so I believe it will work for 904 as well.

If you don`t wanna play with QT, here is example of file tha will encode 3GP VGA 768kbps 30fps video with stereo 44khz 112kbps AAC sound:

[Item78]
Title=VGA•WŹ€‰ćŽż30fpsƒXƒeƒŚƒI
TitleE=3GP VGA 30fps 768kbps Stereo 44khz 112kbps
Command0=""<%AppPath%>\cores\ffmpeg" -y -i "<%InputFile%>" -timestamp "<%TimeStamp%>" -bitexact -vcodec xvid -fixaspect -s 640x480 -r 30 -b 768 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 44100 -ab 56 -f 3gp -muxvb 64 -muxab 32 "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp""
Command1=""<%AppPath%>\cores\QT3GPPFlatten" "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp" "<%OutputFile%>.3gp" -c QT_3GPP(MobileMP4)_QVGA_AAC.ini"
Command2="rm "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp""

Posted by: Lawson1024

I'm assuming that a 904 will plaback mp4 video, and in my experience this tends to be of higher quality than 3gp. I shall try what you have suggested, and similar settings in an mp4 file and compare results. Thankyou

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

mp4 mobile = 3gp, it`s just (in theory) a little bit different container for video and audio streams based on mpeg 4 and made for 3G mobile phones. People often think that mp4 means better quality because they have seen many low quality 3gp videos for low-end GSM phones (176x144 or 128x96 h263 video with amr-nb mono 8khz sound) and mp4 files often have h264 (mpeg 4) video with aac stereo sound. This deoesn`t mean that 3gp cannot contain same quality audio and video streams.
For most 3G phones, when you change extension from .3gp to .mp4 doesn`t make any difference As you see, it`s just extension. Important is what kind (and quality) audio and video streams are inside 3gp/mp4 file.

Posted by: Lawson1024

Does the 904sh support h264 encoding, the encoder i use for my k800i uses a simple xvid mpeg4 profile rather than the h264 baseline, as k800i only supports h264 playback at relatively low bitrates/resolution. I think I'll try imtoo 3gp converter, and the xilisoft one, unless you happen to know that one is preferable to the other. I've never used either before

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

I`ve tested many encoders. Imtoo and xilisoft are very similiar, IMO both worth not much.
3gp converter is fast and easy, perfect for every day use. With modified transcoding file and QT 7 Pro (for sound encoding) it`s one of the fastest and best way to get HQ 3gp/mp4 videos. Only problem is that you have to change "settings" by editing transcoding.ini file. But I did it only once and now I have all encoding profiles I need
Sorenson Squeeze 4 - IMO one of the best for profesional use, can probably achieve highest compresion/quality ratio but it`s too slow and too complex for most users. Also, it`s very expensive.
Mpegable X4 - old story, one of the best VBR h263 (not h264!) encoders at the time it was released, but has "wicked" encoding engine that sometimes gets "confused". Built in mp4 muxer is NOT compatible with mobile mp4!
Quick Time 7 Pro - best existing AAC encoder, not bad mpeg 4 encoder but nothing to match xvid based encoders. Best 3gp/mp4 muxer.
Nero... I don`t like it and don`t use it. Poor AAC encoder. They should focus on CD & DVD burning.
There`s plenty of shareware mpeg 4 encoders now, you can play with them but it`s usually waste of time as most of them will give almost same results. I prefer "my way" because it gives best quality/file size ratio and that`s what I`m looking for. Most people will be searching for tools like Imtoo or total video converter because they`re easy to use but results...

One more thing: h264 = mpeg 4 video = AVC (in terms of video streams, NOT containers!)
Xvid is nothing more than mpeg 4/h264 video encoder, and you`re right, most mobile phones use mpeg 4 simple profile. For your phone it doesn`t really matter which mpeg 4 encoder was used to encode video stream, but it does matter for you as it gives different video quality at same bitrate.

Posted by: Lawson1024

I have a copy of sorenson squeeze 4.3, but i'll try 3gp converter now. I tend to use yamb for muxing. I'm hoping the video playback on this phone is acceptable, it seems to be having trouble playing relatively low bitrate, low resolution mp4 files atm

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

Hmm... what do you mean that phone is having problem wit low bitrate and low res files?
What I know is that Sharps don`t like 3GPP2 profile and resolutions different from standard (QCIF, QVGA, VGA). 903 can play QVGA video streams with high bitrate (up to 1Mbps, maybe more, not tested as there`s no point) so 904 should be even better.

Posted by: Lawson1024

Seems to be the encoder I was using that was causing the problem, I'll be able to test more thoroughly tomorrow as my 1gb stick hasn't arrived yet, so I'm limited to 10/15mb files which are generally low quality clips. I'll encode some DVDrips tomorrow and check quality differences between bitrates etc.

Keep us informed

Posted by: Lawson1024

Well, all working nicely, FF:AC at 1200kbps

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

Damn! Now I want that phone even more!
Have you tried playing this movie on TV? How`s frame rate?

Posted by: jeebjp

Stable 30fps reported here with the 3GPconverter

Here's the real wiki site of 904SH from the makers of 3GPconverter (link)

In other words you need the VGA QT3GPPFlatten (first link after the bare-code profile text - the default QT3GPPFlatten of 3GPConverter doesn't seem to have VGA compatibility), which has to be put into the "cores" folder. After that there are various profiles (VGA@30fps, VGA@30fps-HQ, VGA@30fps-2PASS-VBR, QVGA@30fps) and if you use the VBR ones you need the del.bat in the "cores" folder.

I haven't looked very much into detail how much this differs from UncleAllEvil's profiles, but it's from official wiki, so it should be used as some kind of a base, something to look at and edit (bitrate, FPS etc.) in order to acchieve well working files.

Have to check this one day.

Posted by: Lawson1024

That one wasn't encoded using 3gp converter, but a program called M3 made by a chappie called mysh. 3gp converter is much faster, but lacks the options and compatibilty that m3 offers, so i shall use whichever suits my needs at any given time

Incidentally, that shot of the screen above does not even come close to doing it justice, it really does look amazing. The display on my k800i is annoying more and more every time i use the 904

Posted by: jeebjp

Lawson1024, actually I think the 3GPConverter is pretty much free on what you do. It just gives you the opportunity to not screw around the config files so that the n00bs do not complain (download a profile, and a file - and you've got fully working encoding software for 904SH). And the compatibility is just up to the encoding settings you're using.

So if you look at the settings in the INI files and script yourself, I'd say you could do almost anything with 3GPConverter (it's even better IMHO because it can create files that are compatible with AU phones automatically, too).

Have fun with the video playback, I'd say 904SH's video playback is one of the best on the market - if not the best (VGA is only on Pocket PCs usually).

UncleAllEvil, example

Posted by: Lawson1024

I have had problems with a couple of files not working with 3gp converter, high quality (HD) files and something else, I forget now. Both of these worked using m3. M3 also enables you to rip and convert directly from a DVD in a drive. Give it a try and you'll see what I mean.

I have a feeling that I've been doing this from April... and was a bit surprised that no-one linked to an older thread that I think existed about encoding settings for the 904SH ミ☆ ヽ(゜ロ゜(-_-ゝ アッ! That's why I ended up just posting as usual - after all, this thread was not so n00bish ( ´⊿`)y-~~

Well I searched and found nothing, so I asked in a thread. Sorry if I offended. However, this is my first sharp phone in 4 years, and I've had it for less than a week, so essentially, I am a n00b. Woe is me.

I'm glad there are pr0's like you to set me straight

For VGA video encoding (904SH, 910SH, 810SH, 811SH):

Needed:
-Quicktime 7 (here, you don't need iTunes)
-Avisynth (here, 2.5.7 seems to be the newest)
-3GPConverter (here)
-VGA files and settings for 3GPConverter (↓↓read↓↓)

Get and install Quicktime, Avisynth, 3GPConverter and click here.

You need the "QT_3GPP(MobileMP4)_VGA_AAC.ini" (copy into the "cores" folder of the 3GPConverter) and then the Transcoding_904SH- files (the last one is QVGA so you don't need it if you won't be making QVGA video - Transcoding files go to the "default_setting" folder of 3GPConverter). If you use the 2-pass variable bitrate one you should also download the del.bat file into your "cores" folder in order to delete the first pass file after it's done.

Examples of settings:
Code:
[Item0] Title=★ Q=9 128Kbps 高画質 音楽向け Command0=""<%AppPath%>\cores\ffmpeg" -y -re -i "<%InputFile%>" -timestamp "<%TimeStamp%>" -bitexact -vcodec xvid -mbd 2 -4mv -trell -aic -fixaspect -s 640x480 -deinterlace -r 30 -me full -g 240 -sc_threshold -6000 -hq -qscale 9 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 48000 -ab 64 -vol 256 -title "" -author "" -copyright "" -comment "" -f 3gp "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp"" Command1=""<%AppPath%>\cores\QT3GPPFlatten" "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp" "<%OutputFile%>.3gp" -c QT_3GPP(MobileMP4)_VGA_AAC.ini" Command2="rm "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp"" [Item0] Title=★ Q=3 128Kbps 超高画質 音楽向け Command0=""<%AppPath%>\cores\ffmpeg" -y -re -i "<%InputFile%>" -timestamp "<%TimeStamp%>" -bitexact -vcodec xvid -mbd 2 -4mv -trell -aic -fixaspect -s 640x480 -deinterlace -r 30 -me full -g 240 -sc_threshold -6000 -hq -qscale 3 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 48000 -ab 64 -vol 256 -title "" -author "" -copyright "" -comment "" -f 3gp "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp"" Command1=""<%AppPath%>\cores\QT3GPPFlatten" "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp" "<%OutputFile%>.3gp" -c QT_3GPP(MobileMP4)_VGA_AAC.ini" Command2="rm "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp""

EDIT: Don't know about MovieStage (for SD Video), but I think that 3gp video should be the best way to go on 904SH.

Now that i got the Video converted, i dont know where to put it into my 904sh. i tried putting it into videos and others folder but when i try to look for it on my 904sh, it wont show up. By the way my putting it in by putting the Mini SD into my n73 then connecting the N73 to my computer since i dont have a USB wire for my 904sh. I also realized that now i dont see the VODAFONE folder anymore like the first time i hooked it up to my PC(running windows vista home premium)

edit: just solved my own problem

Posted by: Yttrasil

So now I need to revive this thread since I have a few questions about the video container MKV, commonly used for anime with subs etc...

Is there any way to convert this format to either 3gp or mp4 or whatever format the 904sh now uses and also get the subs with this? Without is also fine but i really only wanna do this one step not use 2 programs so is there anyway to use this with 3gpconverter or any other program which can encode into the right codec for your phone with good quality at that?? =)

Also as some people say is it really certain the 904sh only supports 1gb memory since all the rumors etc about 2gb working on newer versions of the phone software?

Well thank you anyway hope there is some solution for this

Posted by: pocky

Maybe you can search on google for a mkv converter. Which I might try, since I too have a handful of mkv anime files.

I'm still having a hard time trying to convert my widescreen videos. I read all the threads, I tried the TMPGEnc, but EVERY single file I tried says it is not supported. Every single file I have readily available.

Does anyone know of any other software that I can turn my widescreen video to fit the 904 perfectly?

Posted by: Yttrasil

Hmm Mkv is such a stupid format sometimes though =)

Anyhow concerning Widescreen I have 3gp converter and they all come out perfectly all the time except that maybe they are 640-480 but is cut where the widescreen is so to say never had that problem at all, so there must be something easy to fix it =/

Posted by: jeebjp

Yttrasil, pocky:

Brrh... I'm variously against using all kinds of MKV-2-AVI software that make unneeded stuff and/or never do the job well. What I am about to propose will make you work a bit more, but if you get it you'll be encoding almost anything into anything using various tools (OK, I'm exaggerating, but still - many people just don't know the powers of such open-source software that is usually used as the base of various re-encoding software with often pre-set settings that don't always work right).

What about having the v/a read out via DirectShowSource() on Avisynth and adding VSFilter stuff on with TextSub() there after that (after using MKVextractGUI on the subs)? Should make something out of it. Then letting the 3GPConverter encode that .avs script and it should all go smooth.

If you're not afraid of bugs with H.264 in AVI and/or have timing problems with the a/v synch on DirectShowSource, you could use MKVextractGUI or something to take out the a/v tracks and mux it all into an AVI and use AVISource() to read the file.

Anyways, with VFR it could get messier - if the 904SH doesn't like VFR MPEG-4 >_> Hrr... Pseudo-120fps video making... not really my stuff. Although there are software for making those nullframes automagically.

EDIT: More on VFR read by Avisynth here .

And the MKV still seems as a non-nice format for re-encoding for newbies as it's still a bit new. Avisynth 3.00 should have direct support for it (as well as many other functions), so all software that uses Avisynth should become easier to use with it after that.

Anyways, a link that'll probably help: Doom9 (piracy is not liked over there, so the questions mustn't touch that area, there are other usages for mkv - you know)

An example script with some settings on DirectShowSource () and TextSub:
Code:
LoadPlugin("C:\JEEB\Softat\Aegisub\VSFilter.dll") DirectShowSource("ef_OP_24fps.mp4", fps=24) TextSub("itusora2ndOP_demo.a s s")
Look for more info in the Avisynth docs and/or on AnimeSuki forums where there is enough discussion about re-encoding anime fansubs.

P.S.

Links to the software needed for the mentioned stuff:

Avisynth 2.5.X
MKVtoolnix (win32 build)
MKVextractGUI
avc2avi (if needed)
VSFilter (should be installed already if the subs play in MKV where they are softsubbed / comes with CCCP)

P.P.S.

I don't remember if 3GPConverter likes .avs as input, but I see no reason why they shouldn't work. Testing the script is easy - play it back in MPC or something - it should work ^^

And if the 3GPConverter for some reason doesn't take Avisynth stuff - just use ffmpeg with the same settings as in the command lines in the 904SH's profile. Should work even better ^^ (as always, you can update the ffmpeg in 3GPconverter's folder if needed. Should even make stuff look better).

Posted by: pocky

Thanks for the info! Mmmmm....Let me re-read it a couple of times to understand it.

Posted by: KBoardBox

Is there a file size limit to videos or something? I encoded a clip using the proper settings (I'm pretty sure) in MediaCoder, and it played fine. Encoded a music video using the same settings and it says that the "file cannot be played?" What gives?

I've tried using 3GPconverter too, but it keeps crashing on me.

Posted by: cheeseus

Hey guys, I just tried converting videos using the 3GP Converter (v.034) but I keep getting an error. I tried every type of 3GP setting available but just as it gets to 100% it displays the error message about QT3GPPFlatten.exe crashing and then the whole process rolls back to zero and nothing. Can you help?
I did download the files from nurs.or.jp

Posted by: KBoardBox

You need QuickTime. Install the latest version and all should be well. I had the same issue before.

Maybe your SD card is write protected. It's what kept happening to me too.
Now I get to download videos from youtube and others converting them to AVI format. Just google Vdownloader, download it, convert your videos, save, drag them to the 3GP converter to the SD/videos output, and voilla!
I don't know what software people are using to rip DVDs though, but this thing has it all

You're missing his point, he's getting an error while using 3GP Converter. Solved by installing QuickTime, that is all.

Nope, that's not the thing either. I do have QuickTime, version 7.4.5.67 - latest one I believe.
I managed to convert videos for the SD_VIDEO and they work fine. But the 3GP converter doesn't work. And I was REALLY impressed by the quality of that "colourful_heart.3gp" video! I'd like to be able to do this too.

Posted by: KBoardBox

Do you have the one for VGA processing? The normal 3GP Converter doesn't have that capability.

Well, I have installed the 3GP_Converter, the AviSynth 2.5 (latest), QuickTime (latest), as well as the additional INI files from the site (incl. the ones for VGA processing). The only thing that works, is the experimental SD_VIDEO conversion, everything else crashes as it gets to 100% and then rolls back to 0% as I mentioned before.

Posted by: KBoardBox

You also need the VGA version of the QT3GPPflatten.exe.

Posted by: jeebjp

BTW, an addition to my "tutorial" - the DirectShowSource() command is now almost wholely superceded by the FFmpegsource() command, which provides frame-accurate seeking in many files, which brings out much better results at least in WMV, MP4 and MKV. It will also output timecode files automagically, so it's now even easier to make VFR encodes.

FFMpegsource thread

example:

PHP Code:
 FFmpegSource("somegreatvideoyouhave.mp4/wmv/mkv"timecodes="timecodes.txt"seekmode 1

But timecodes creation seems to be broken for WMV, just like with the earlier versions of WMVTIMES, so I recommend everyone to use the latter for timecodes extraction from WMV until that is sorted out.

Also with some files (VFR and mostly WMV files that bring out incorrect framerates) you must set some FPS filtering in the end, if the subs are softsubbed, like AssumeFPS() or other of those FPS filters found @ the Avisynth Mediawiki.

Which link is it? I don't understand Japanese. I did, however, download everything on the linked page.

Here's the 3GP Converter for everyone. Just unzip and run it, no installation needed. The settings are already set, just change the output folder and drag videos in and it'll start working.

Let me know if the links still work.

I downloaded it through the second link, because I don't want to install the mediaUpload bar. But I am still having the same crashing problem. Conversion gets to 100%, waits a couple of seconds, the error message is displayed and then rolls back to 0%.
Does the above zip feature the VGA version of QT3GPPFlatten.exe? I see that in the cores folder, the 904sh ini files are missing.
Also, can you please explain which configuration setting is best for the 904sh (from list in the Setup.exe) -- General: 3GPP+AAC General Setting (with XviD encoder) or any of the others?
I have just checked my Quick Time player installation and it's OK.

Posted by: KBoardBox

Huh? Megaupload bar? I never needed to install it to download stuff lol

That should be the VGA version as well, it's what I have. I have never seen your error before though! From the list in your Setup.exe choose Transcoding_904SH_VGA_Hi_30FPS as your profile. Set it, go to 3GP Converter, drop things in and let it rip. Should work fine, but if not, you can always reinstall QuickTime just to be sure.

Thanks, but when I open Setup.exe I don't have a profile picker. In the top part of the Config manager I get a list of settings (see screenshot). The Transcoding_904SH_VGA_Hi_30FPS.ini is in the CORES folder but how can I set it?

Huh, I see it in my list:

Gah, here you go the one I use for my encoding donno if you already have one or whatever but works fine just copy paste for me anyhow also remember to rename the files so they arn't too long since encoding won't work then.
http://www.megaupload.com/se/?d=6EF8FF62

Then there are some other stuff also you learn on the go like some files won't work etc, also if it just won't work with any file now try downloading a codec pack and install everything and try encoding again. GL HF

Sorry, can't download this. Here's what the site tells me:
"All download slots assigned to your country (Bulgaria) are currently in use. Please try again in a few hours or install the Megaupload Toolbar for immediate access - with the toolbar installed, there are no more slot limitations for you!"

Can you upload it somewhere else? Or send it by email? PM me and I will give you my email address.

KBoardBox, from what I see on the screenshot, your 3GP_converter is in C: Did you put it there or did install in there when you hit the Setup.exe button. Not that the location matters too much. Now, since with you the "Transcoding_904sh....ini" file is in the defaults directory. So I moved all four "Transcoding_904sh.ini" files into the Default directory. Tried converting with the Transcoding_904SH_VGA_30FPS.ini -- but, it crashed again as it got to 100% (see screenshot).

I am using K-Lite Codec Pack 2.88 Full.

Try this one then, if this doesn't work the file you are trying to convert is probably faulty or not eliagable with 3gp converter, also again use SHORT names for the files since longer ones will cause the program to not work.

Thanks! Still the same error. Something else must be the problem then...
I tried with different AVI or FLV files, all short names.
I will be upgrading my computer next week and replacing most of the hardware and reinstalling windows and everything else, so I hope then it will work.

Ive just discovered m3 encoder, was using GP3 Convertor with a preset provided here but found it wasnt giving great results (wondering why).
I pasted the text into the ini file but the quality wasnt as good as m3.

, well quality was great because Ive never been able to watch video on my phone until now.

Must admit the program (m3) outputs huge files but the quality is very good indeed.

I put an avi file of 109mb and 3GP spat out a 21mb file
m3 spat out the same file at 78mb

But the screen size was bigger and also sound was much crisper.
m3 has a drop down box for Sharp 904sh.

I wish I had a decent camera to show you the quality.

Anyway I would def recommend it. Or if i can get 3gp to do the same then even better.

Good find, downloading it now!

Posted by: TokyoElbow

make sure you download microsoft framework

or you will get an error when starting up

Posted by: KBoardBox

Already got it, thanks. You mean .NET Framework, right?

Posted by: cheeseus

This M3 encoder is cool! Just converted a 193 MB .avi to 53 MB .mp4 and the quality is a killer! And by the way, this is the first time my 904sh actually "sees" and opens an MP4 file. Awesome! Spongle - Star Shpongled Banner!

If the latest version of Quicktime hasn't fixed this problem with 3GPP you need to revert back to Quicktime version 7.2 (QT3GPPFlatten.exe crashes).

In order to downgrade QT you will need to uninstall the version you have now and then manually delete a couple of QT*32.dll files in your System32 folder. Then you can install v7.2. That should let 3GPP work as it should.

net framework thats the one

Thanks! I will try this. Meanwhile, the M3 Encoder has started crashing too. It crashes (the Error message and "send error report" dialog) appear as soon as I launch the program. I noticed, however, that if I do not close this error box and leave it like that, I can still use the Encoder and it works OK.

Posted by: cheeseus

Yep, removed QT 7.5, wiped the registry and installed QT 7.2 - and 3GP Converter works fine!
Just tried the M3 Encoder but it still crashes.

Posted by: TokyoElbow

it will crash if you let it try to 'dial out' you have to block it in your firewall settings.

Sorry, I didn't understand this. What does "dial out" mean? And the M3 Encoder is NOT on the list of exceptions for my firewall, so it does not connect to the internet, I think.

this should for on the 920SH as well, right? I am trying to encode these videos:

http://sa-drift.com/?page_id=9

and I can't seem to get them to work at all =(

Posted by: KBoardBox

Yup, it should work for the 920SH as well.

I keep trying different settings but when i try to open the files on the phone, it can't find any files

Posted by: KBoardBox

You can encode it with MediaCoder. I've finally got movies working with that program. Here are presets for VGA/WVGA phones. Just drag your videos in and let it rip after loading one of these two preset files:

Widescreen: http://www.mediafire.com/?ozxotos3imm
Standard: Umm...I'll put it up after my MediaCoder finishes ahaahahah...can't stop it now.

Posted by: chokonen888

it seemed like it would work but then crashed at the end (error 15) =(

Posted by: chokonen888

I tried it on another PC as well, same result....could someone d/l one of the files I'm trying to convert and see if there is something I'm doing wrong or...?

Posted by: KBoardBox

With which program are you getting that error?

Posted by: chokonen888

MediaCoder is the one giving me the error. I tried it on yet a third PC and got past the error but the resulting files still cannot be found by the phone...could the 920SH be that different? I took a short movie with the phone and the resulting file is an .asf file??

Posted by: KBoardBox

ASF is a low-quality file, if you took a movie with the 920SH on the "long" setting it should switch to 3GP instead. Are you putting the files in the right place?

Posted by: chokonen888

you're right about changing to the long setting, it goes to 3GP...

I had been placing the files in the "PRL001" folder inside the SD_Video folder? That's what used to work with my 904...though I see there is another video folder under the private folder...is that where they should go?

Posted by: chokonen888

ok....so now my phone suddenly can find the files and play them!!!

I have to say, the video on the 920SH blows away anything I've seen on the other Sharp models....it's amazingly clear and WIDESCREEN!!!!
