Cingular PDA/Data Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok so I am drooling over the 750 and I have a question about the data plan(s.) When I move from CU500 which I have Mediaworks Max and Mobitv to the 750 am I going to have to have the PDA Max + Mediaworks Max + Mobitv or just PDA Max + Mobitv. The Cingular store rep told me I would have to have all three and personally I am not sure as to why.

If this was posted in another thread or a 50+ page thread I apologize in advance for missing it.

NP. Threads get cluttered (and I'm guilty of doing the cluttering.)
No, you do NOT need both Mediaworks + PDA MAX. In fact I don't know if it's even possible to have both at the same time as they are both data plans with text messaging.

All you need is 'PDA Connect' (unlimited data only for $40/month) or PDA Max ('PDA connect' + 1000 messages for $50.)
This takes care of your unlimited data that MobiTV will use and your text/picture messaging.

MobiTV is a separate subscription as MobiTV is a 3rd party service that Cingular re-sells to you. It's not included in any other bundles.

Since you're moving to a Windows Mobile PDA, you'll need to go cancel your mobiTV subscription for the CU500. Then go subscribe to it for Windows Mobile.
For the CU500 and other cell phones, MobiTV is pre-loaded by Cingular and sold through Cingular on your bill.
For PDAs (Palm OS and WM5) these subscriptions are sold through other parties (that are not Cingular.) The WM5 MobiTV applicaiton does not work with the same billing/subscription system as the CU500's does.
I'm not sure why, it just is this way.
Here's the link. http://www.mobitv.com/products/prod...=windows_mobile Click on Get MobiTV and it'll tell you how to download MobiTV and subscribe to it (via credit card.)

Two things to consider:
#1. Since you have WM5, you may want to consider Slingbox http://www.slingbox.com/ to watch TV from your own home satellite/cable/or DVR at home on your Treo 750. This gives you more content options, but requires you to buy it, install it, use it. MobiTV is great if you like it, you're just paying them a subscription rather than buying your own solution.
There is also ORB which is free. It allows you to stream MP3 and Video from your home computer (not really live TV)

#2 MediaMax will work on the Treo 750. It's intended only for cel phones and PDA max is the proper plan. But should you manage to keep media max it will work. I'm not encouraging it, I'm just letting you know.

Thanks for the help. I have been holding off on Slingbox as I had read somewhere that cellphone companies might block this to promote there own services.

Thanks again for the help on the data plans.

Has anyone of you tried orb.com and there TV streaming. I dont have a TV input on my video card so i cant use that part of the service. It's free though.
