I currently have the 8125 and a 64k sim card. I just ordered the blackjack on ebay. Will i need the new sim card labled "3g" to get 3g coverage? i work at radioshack so getting one wont be a problem, but i would still rather not spend the extra money for one. (we dont sell g3 phones at my store, so thats why i dont know the answer to this question.)

I have a cingular branded Sync (A707) and don't use a 3G card.

and you're getting 3g speeds?

I also have the same question. I owned a 8525 and my non 3g sim worked perect. My co-worker has a Blackjack and his non 3g sim also works fine. I just bought a treo 750 and the sales guy said it will not work unless you have a 3g sim, then charged me $25 for it. I get the phone today, so i will let you know what i find.

I have a Treo 750 with a 64K smartchip from my old 8125. Everything work great and I get 3G speed.

In most markets it doesn't matter what kind of SIM you have, you will get 3G speeds if you are in a 3G area and are using a 3G device.

This is what Cingular sent with my 750

i was given a 3g sim with my 750, for free, and they did not make me give back my old one. (it's disabled, obviously)

so in some markets i would need a 3g sim card? I do travel quite a bit. do you know of any markets in particular that you would need a 3g sim card? I suppose i could just buy a 3g sim card for $25 buti would like to avoid it if it doesn't make a difference anywhere.

In the past when I first got the Samsung 3G phone, I thought I would not need another new 3G card since two months before I was upgraded to the 64K card. They told me the only reason I would need the new 3G card was to take advantage of Cingular video over the air service. I return the phone two days later since it sucked after using symbian which is no surprise and was able to keep the new card and never was charged for it. Mind you this was all done by buying the phone out right and not touching my contract. We also know how "un"knowledgable Cingular Sales reps are though.

well not all csr's are like that

When I got my BlackJack, they switched me to a 3G SIM free of charge.... I would just ask them to swap it out, if they try to charge you, show them the picture of that paper that the 750 came with.

Wow, they shouldn't have charged for the new sim with the phone upgrade. Call CS and demand a credit on your bill.
