OK I just purchased new Motorola A1200 Ming last month , AND MOTOROLA SUCKS.

Motorola should stop making cell phones, Please for god sake.

So My ming is going on eBAY.

Now I want to buy a new phone, and the fight is b/w
# SE p990i

VS

# HTC tytn
# o2 Atom
# Imate Kjam/ o2 mini s

Currently its between me and me, please join in with your suggestions.

Round #1
I am a muZiK freak, I love sony's MEGA BASS. so when its come to music p990i WINS

Any objections here? any Windows phone with better sound(BASS) quality?

Round #2
Taking pics with my K750i was charm, I am accepting same for p990i, I have heard that PPC dont have good cameras, means you need very firm grip to take pics. p990i wins.

AM I wrong?

Round #3
PPC have better office suite. even p990i has word, ecxel etc editor too but they dont open all files. PPC wins, SCROE: p990i/PPC : 2/1

Round #4
p990i web browser is useless, PPC have IE PPC wins 2/2

Round#5
PPC have lot of third party apps, p990i dont. PPC wins 2/3

Round #6
There is no VOIP ( SKYPE ) for p990i, PPC has it. 2/4

Round #7
Windows is more stable and reliable then Symbi 9. 2/5

Round #8
thats enough for me PPC is winning round by round, BUT I WANT TO BUY p990i. Please HELP ME OUT

third party software support for symbian is INSANE if you know where to look, the p910 was the most popular pda phone in europe for the length of its lifespan, its like the treo of europe. ive never had any problems with symbian and ive had a few symbian phones, some nokias and the p910 and i went to windows so heres my opinion

p990 is the best PHONE with secondary pda function

windows devices are first known to be great PDA's and phones second

if you talk a lot, go for the p990 its great all around and has an AWESOME speakerphone

if the p910 had fast internet available i would have kept it til it broke, the p990 has edge and wifi...so if i had 600 bucks to blow i would get the 990 (if i didnt have sprint that is)

there is LOTS of other things i could have talked about but they are pretty small things

Round #1
This will be P990i hands down, no contest. Winner: P990i.

Round #2
Never seen a good pic from a WinMo phone, ever. Winner: P990i.

Round #3
They are all lame. Tie.

Round #4
IE sucks also. I would give the edge to P990i.

Round#5
UIQ 3 is very scarce for apps currently. Winner = PPC

Round #6
VOIP?? Don't see the point with a cell phone, but it's your perrogative.

Round #7
At this point anything is more stable than UIQ 3. BUT, the OS has a lot of potential. My opinion is that it's worth the trade off. I'd call winner P990i.

Round #8
Don't forget built-in apps. Lttle things like a task manager, timer, stopwatch, etc, etc, etc are all built in on P990i, on WinMo they are typically add-on apps you have to buy unless you got some bundle deal. Built-in Apps = Winner P990i.

I'd pick the P990i.

I have a p990i and Cingular 8525 (HTC Tytn)

I carry the p990i because I use the phone more than the PDA. The recent ROM upgrade has given the p990i the stability to go back to it being my primary phone.

Typing e-mails requires sliding out the keyboard and rotating the screen on the 8525, p990i is more straight forward although the keys are tiny in comparison. I'm not a heavy mobile e-mail user, so not a show stopper for me.

p990 is a bit lighter, 8525 more brickish. I have BB for work, so the 8525's XpressMail (Cingular OEM'd from Seven) gives me separate work mailbox and calendar from my personal stuff. Very cool.

I've hung up on people with the 8525 when the keyboard slips as I pull it out of the horizintal case when ringing. p990i's always been a better phone.

The music is not a big deal for me since I have an 80GB iPod.

More software for PPC, hands down. The biggest problem (for me, at least) on the p990i being GPS map programs. PPC has many options, p990i is only a few. TomTom's entire NorthAmerica stuff fits on a MemStick (up to 4GB) while micro SD (up to 2GB) doesn't hold my other Nav program's maps.

Since I don't stream stuff (Orb, Sling), the 3G of the 8525 is turning out not to be a big deal for me. And I am having no problem with not having 850Mhz (NYC is pretty well covered).

The biggest difference IMHO, is in sync'ing. Active Sync on WM5 is complete (Cal, Contacts, Notes, Tasks and Categories on all of them), while p990i's is Cal and Contacts with no Categories. I've pushed DataViz (p990i's Active Sync OEM) on this, but they're not saying anything.

Also, no p990i Mac support directly. On WM5, the missing sync allows full sync (with categories) to the Mac, so I'm not tied to Outlook anymore by using an Exchange server.

As described above, it boils down to:

Phone 1st/PDA 2nd - p990i
PDA 1st/Phone 2nd - WM5 (obvious due to seamless Outlook integration)

Good luck,
paul

I was able to sync notes in my K750i, Then whats wrong with p990i? who cares

I am choosing a BULKY full keyboard phone just for EMAIL thing, I am a freelance graphics designer and i need to stay in touch with my clients every min.
So I am going for a PDA device MAINLY for EMail and Messenger.

And If I list all my needs in a rating manner here they go:

#1 : Email and Messenger, SKYPE if possible

#2 : Music, I have an ipod and a PSP to work for me, But carrying them everywhere is a pain. So I want my phone to have a GOOD Music player ( preferred with HEAVY BASS )

#3 : Photo, I like to click every moment.

#4: LOUD RINGTONE, Well I am a BIKER, and vibrations dont seem to work in cargos.

#5: Data security: protected contacts and data.

Few more suggestion please........

I heard that the OS of P990i is very laggy and buggy....

As of the HTC 8525 well....I heard nothing but good things so far except the bulky allure.

Can anyone please enlighten me on the "performance" which was not covered by any of the tests above.

thanks a lot!

Thats pretty dumb to say Motorola should "stop making cellphones" because of one phone that you dont happen to like. Motorola makes some good phones and other not-so-good phones.

Anyway about the thread topic at hand. The SE P990 is a great phone and the build is very solid, however back when I had my P990 the laggy OS wasnt doing it for me and I ended up selling it. The keypad is very solid and has good tactile feedback but it is also very cramped together and requires some getting use to. Some QWERTY keypads are easy to use right off the bat. Not the case with the P990.

You said Sony's Mega Bass is SUPER! I dont think it is that super at all. Music at certain bit rates will sound distorted and garbled with Mega Bass. It's also not even a moot point for me when I factor in a cellphone purcahse but to each his own.

The P990 web browser isnt "useless". It works efficiently however like most UIQ phone and Symbian phones, you need a third party browser to satisfy you web browsing needs.

Third party apps...The P990 doesnt have "a lot" of apps. Go to handango.com and tell me you cant find "a lot" of apps.

P990 doesnt do VOIP? Go to fring.com (research is your friend!)

I agree that Windows Mobile is more stable than Symbian. I had one too
many resets on my buggy firmwared P990.

Holy Geez. Super old thread! I didnt realize it until I finished my write up.

so in the end......

8525 or P990i????

I have been browsing ebay for the past week...and bidding on both....but then I always chicken out and get cold feet right at the end...cause I'm still unsure!

I love the PPC allure....but I am an old fashion P900 user....and simply LOVE the series......................

Is there maybe another type of HTC phones that is better to get than the 8525?

what do I do guys....please guide me with feedback!!
