i had thought about selling the blackjack to get one until i saw the price on it. $499 for the 4gb model with new 2 year contract

8gb is a whopping $599

Looks like a fragile toy. I'll pass on anything Apple related. LOL.

The phone is hot, the software included is what will sell it, knowing apple I know it will be a huge success, let's see if they have a voice command program included, They have been developing the software for a while and also it will have a auto update also.

I dont think it's really a smartphone...it's the all new RAZR phone for fashion freaks (although it does more) but you cannot just develop applications for it...it's closed.
No Exchange support....likely the only thing you can install on it is widgets.

It looks hot.
But replacement for Symbian or Windows Mobile it is not.

I think you are wrong, this device will be popular and withing few months we will start seeing tons of software available for it. Every company out there will want to jump on the bandwagon and no it is not closed to app development.

This is why I hate apple. They refine a concept and call it a revolution. And the pretentious jerks who are apple fans start salivating.

This will no doubt replace the SideKick. But not Smartphones or PPCs.

RIP ....SideKick

i looked at the demos on apple's website. i have a feeling people will be complaining about the battery life and the touch screen. i can't imagine typing on a touch screen like that could be mistake free.

looks great otherwise. i wish i could sync itunes with my "8GB" blackjack!

Like all new technology, Rev 1 is going to be expensive, missing features and buggy... in 2 years, the iPhone will be affordable, feature rich and stable.

This will drive innovation from Microsoft and the SmartPhone will benefit.

Personally, I can't wait to drive one but will probably never own one as my Blackjack is here now and evolving in Redmond and Soul.

You have to give Apple, Inc (was Apple Computer) for being innovative and one of the few reasons left to be proud to be American.

No exchange push email, no 3G, no deal.

Nice iPod replacement, nice toy.

Looks cool. I was wondering how Apple was going to deal with the "convergence" as the IPOD is a huge segment of the income statement and they sunk a chunck of cash into that flash memory JV. Personally, I think it's great for the industry to get a new player, especially one who is known for good design and innovation. I'm not expecting to swap out a Smartphone anywhere near initital release (if ever as I'm Outlook wed) but I'm excited to see this happening as well as the trickledown effect.

I agree 100%. Apple's first versions of products always have problems, just look at the Macbooks and MBPs when they first came out, and don't forget about all those scratched/cracked Nanos. This thing looks really fragile, but I love that fact that it really ups the ante when it comes to what a Smartphone should be capable of in terms of usability and software integration.

I agree. This would make a great second or weekend phone.

I'm excited to see what it looks like after a year of real use. I know this, I can sit on my Blackjack and not worry... the iphone looks like it would break in half, or fracture the screen. And half a Grand??? Apple has to prove itself in the cell phone arena, and come down to earth on price before I jump on board this band wagon. Also, is the quoted price with or without a new contract? What the hell is the standalone cost if that is the case, a thousand bucks?? Pass.

I agree on the "no 3G = no deal" sentiment, and would also add "no GPS, no voice dial = no deal." However, there's no need for "Exchange push" because it will support IMAP IDLE (which Exchange can provide). That said, it doesn't look like the iPhone will support any kind of OTA PIM sync out the gate, which is unfortunate.
