KX160 MPT Modem problems?? HELP!

I just bought the MPT kit for my kx160 and i installed everything right but it wont connect to the phone. I am using the cable that came with it. When i hover the mouse over the icon in the system tray it says Initializing Modem....
then a window pops us and says mpt is unable to communicate with your phone
at the bottom is has an ok button and a redetect button
any ideas?? please help me
