Cingular 8525 - Unable to make outgoing phone calls

Having problems making outbound phone calls.
I try to make a phone call; the phone shows that it is dialing out and then ends; every time no matter What number I dial.
This is the 2nd phone which I have received from the retail store IMO (Independent Mobile).
I have been on the phone w/ Cingular Support for 2hrs while they trouble shoot the issue.
They told me everything was fine on their end and they double checked everything.
Through process of elimination, I was able to realize that it is an issue with the phone.

I was unable to make out bound calls on the phone on 1/5/07; (phone would dial number, but phone call would not go through). I waited several hours later, and then it worked… later that night, same thing. It was happening on and off over the weekend; I finally went back to IMO to exchange the phone (on 1/8/07) for a new Cingular 8525 (30 day exchange was almost over; purchased the phone on Dec 9, 06) ; the phone worked when I left IMO.

As of 9:30PM 1/9/07 I am still having the same issues and my dilemma is that the 30 day exchange period is over w/ IMO
And I had cut the serial/UPC bar code off the box to mail in the rebate.

Things I have tried to conclude this is a defective 8525

1. Replace the Cingular 8525.
2. Replaced my sim card at an authorized Cingular store
3. Called Cingular support to update my IMEI # and verify SIM card #.
4. Reset the Cingular 8525 to original settings and tried to make a phone call to voice mail and other numbers (still unable to make outbound calls)
5. Used my Motorola razor phone to verify service/out bound phone calls w/ my sim card (Which worked)
6. Put my wifes SIM card into the Cingular 8525 and tried to make an out bound call (Same Problem, unable to make outbound calls)

After trying all of this; my conclusion is I have a $450 paper weight that is 2 days old…. Please help; any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Turns out this is a problem w/ Cingular's networks... because of my location ( i have full bars w/ UMTS and have data connectivity) I can not make out bound phone calls. I leave my house to go to work this morning and 2 miles down the road I was able to make phone calls. Come home from work and no more out bound phone calls, but able to receive calls. It just so happens that is this is an issue w/ the Cingular 8525 only (or that i know of). I had to call Cingular support 3 times before they told me they had a problem with their towers. They said this would be fixed within 24-48hrs... funny since this started happening since Jan 5. Any one else have this problem? Area code is 01960.

I've had all kinds of issues with cingular service in northern San Diego. I think it's a problem with Cingular's service/towers coupled with the ability of the phone model to compensate for the problem. Thus, if there are errors with the service/tower, you are likely to have more probs on one phone model than with another. That is my theory, what do you think? I know others have had similar issues. My smt5600 started having problems with service up here last year. My quad band 8525, however, gets perfect reception.
