I got a Treo 750 today and I am onloy getting around 300kbps. I did some research and found oiut that it only has UMTS. I also found somewhere (I wish I had bookmarked it) that I can install software on it for the HSDPA. But why didn't it come with it out of the box??? And how safe is it to put that software on it? Thanks...

The Cingular 750 does not come with HSDPA out the box, however Cingular did mention an update coming soon that will enable this feature.

There is in fact a hack that will also enable this feature. Keep in mind, the hack was made for the Treo 750V, I heard promising results BUT has never heard anyone with a Cingular Treo 750 testing it. My suggestion, wait for the Cingular update. If you cant wait, heres the link:

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

I tested and applied it to my 750 and I'm getting speeds around 700 so far so good.

I played with a 750 today and I wasnt too impressed with it. I think I'll keep my Blackjack a little while longer.

300 K isn't slow so stop your complaining

I am lucky if I get 30k on mine

i checked my speed and i'm 200k

it wont even connect to UTMS. connects for a few minutes and then goes back to GPRS.

So you applied the hack mentioned above on a Cingular 750 and it works??? It says that you wirelessly posted from a device withh 240x320 but the treo is only 240x240??? I don't wanna mess up my phone or have to return it, you know?

if anything just reset the phone back to factory default. i'm browsing at like 350k w/ the 750, it's fine for me.

Believe it or not I'm actually getting from 300-444K down with my Treo 750. I've been thinking about doing the HSDPA hack but not sure how stable it is.

He has more than one device.

I tried the hack on the Cingular 750 twice yesterday and I couldn't get it to work. i consistently get 200 - 300K in areas where my TyTn will do 700-800k.

I beleive there is a lock of some sort on the Cingular branded 750 vs the Vodaphone that will not enable support for the faster speeds until they provide a ROM update.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I stand corrected....I applied the hack based on the above links with my BRANDED Cingular 750 and I now get 700-800Kbs. I don't know about voice quality or dropped calls yet. But the hack does work.

So far I have heard mixed reports. Some people say they got it to work and others have had no luck. I wonder if everyone is trying the same hack?

Posted by: importluva

You can be getting 700-800kbps speeds but that doesn't mean the phone can process that much data at once. I doubt most people will even be able to tell a difference between a Treo running at 350kbps vs. 700kbps because of the processor limitation.

i dont understand why bother with the 750 when the 8525 is the same OS, faster processor, and has HSDPA? can someone clue me in? oh, and the same price...

Lundis

Maybe because the Treo is more of a 1 handed device?
Exposed Keyboard
Also, I had the 8525, felt like I had a huge bulge in my jeans, I mean 2 huge bulges

The Treo 750 only has UMTS and no HSDPA. Max should be 384kbp/s. The hack going around might work on the Cingular branded. Many people report success with the Vodafone 750. But you have to give it some time for the Cingular one. This phone just came out a few days ago. They even say that Cingular might provide the update for you sometime in the future.
