I have an old Sanyo 4900 series PCS phone from Sprint. Can it be changed to work on Verizon as well ?

The Sanyo 4900 only supports AMPS on 800MHz frequencies, which Verizon uses in the majority of its territories. Unless you want analog-only service, I don't recommend attempting to use this handset on Verizon.
