A couple of questions I would be *MOST* appreciative of some help from the local experts. I've searched, btu haven't found what I was looking for. I very much appreciate any help!!!
I've purchased a new (Unlocked / T-Mobile Branded) Blackberry Pearl. Great device. However I have a few issues with it.
I'm currently a "blue" customer, which I will not likely get off the plan we are on. ($99/mo, all you can eat, voice and data). As much as Cingular wants to me change, they don't offer a plan that is close to what I have.
So begins my chase with Cingular.
On to the phone:
I connect to the edge network with my blue SIM card in the phone, it works, yes, however don't have full access to the 3G network. I can send / receive calls and send / receive simple SMS messages. However I get none of the email, web browsing, etc. (3G) capabilities.
WhenI power on, the "home" screen on the phone says "Data Connection Refused". And the "edge" in the upper RHC where the signal strength is indicates "edge" rather than "EDGE". Per the losers manual, there is a difference in the two, as shows above with the calling and SMS capabilities.
I've spoken to Cingular and went around and around with them for two hours.
What they are telling me is that because I have a blue card, I can not connect to the 3G network, nor access any of its capabilities. I tell them they are full of *****. We have this conversation for about an hour, or until my blood boils and I give up and am ready to jamb a pencil in my ear.
So, my questions-
Is there a difference in an orange card versus a blue card *OTHER THAN* the difference in the memory capacity?
Should I be able to use a blue card in an UNLOCKED Blackberry Pearl and access / use the full capabilities of email, web browsing, etc. etc. with my Blackberry Pearl device???
The phone I purchase is unlocked, however still branded with the T-Mobile splash screen, some minor software widgets, etc. Do I need to re-flash my phone with a current "Cingular" branded or "Non-Branded" software / firmware??
(and if "yes"; can someone point me in the direction of the software for DL?)
I can't thank you guys and gals enough for some straight answers and insight to the issues above.
Regards-
~Q

Talking to the correct person within Cingular, the problem is now solved.
All of what I was asking can be done.
You can utilize all of the 3G services with a blue card in a BB Pearl 8100.

No, the BB Pearl 8100 doesn't support 3G services.

Sorry. That should have read "EDGE".
Full email, web browsing, GPS Mapping, etc. etc.
All of which Cingular told me wasn't possible because of my blue card.

So, congrats. But, you didn't say what the problem/fix was.

Spoke to the correct person in the organization who was able to keep my existing plan, and dropping the MLife dataplan, and add the BB data plan.
