Reading the paper this morning and it is talking about the smartphone world and the iphone and in about the third paragraph it says the blackjack compared to the treo 750 and says the blackjack is 35% lighter 36% smaller overall...also blackjack claims 38% better battery life. Seems a little exaggerated but i don't own a treo 750 can anyone who has one or owned one comment on this article

it was written by mossberg wasn't it? That guy is just full of it. He hates anything windows mobile and always sings the praises of the Palm OS. His bias is incredible.

Sounds to me like they were saying the BJ has 38% BETTER battery life than the 750. Don't get ahead of yourself. I used to have a 650, and at first my BJ battery sucked, drained in about 12 hours... but after a couple of hard days of use, I can go almost 36-48 hours on a single charge with moderate calling, surfing and e-mail check every 2 hours... I haven't had to use the 2nd battery since the 3rd day I got the phone... Now if only the web browser was better... (ie: flash, java, etc)

Yea, but most users that own both have stated that the 750 beats the bj in terms of battery life.

don't know about the 750 battery life, but it seems to be using the same one as the 680, which is notorious for its short lifespan. My 680 wouldn't make it 8 hours without needing a charge. As far as the BJ, I'm getting 3 days easily on the standard battery making about 30 minutes of calls daily, small amount of surfing, yahoo IM running in the background, and email checking every 2 hours. Like everything, I guess it depends on your particular handset as to the performance you get(although you would think it should be fairly standard).

There seems to be something wrong wtih the software on the 680 that is making the battery life so terrible given that the 750 lasts longer with a much more powerful cellular radio.

Ah, now that I read it, the author never came to that conclusion, but he's merely repeating what the box probably says (ie 5 hrs of talk time stated on the box). Makes sense, Samsung didn't ship the phone with 2 batteries because it has great battery life...

Haha.... funny guy you are!

Anyways, seeing I am a guy that actually has a 750, I can tell you after a couple of days, the battery does blow the big lova! Just sitting next to the bed last night, in six hours, it drained 14%. That is no calls, no usage other than it's own checking with the mothership. That is pretty bad. I don't have a a BJ to compare it to, but I do have a Dash and it will drain 1-2% in that same period.

With my 750 yesterday (second day of ownership), I had to constantly keep it on the charger.... as you could watch the battery meter drop! I think these battery's need to be conditioned some, so maybe in a few days it will get better.... but I am not sure how much.... I guess if it can make it through a full days worth of moderate usage (20-30 short calls and 80 or so e-mails), I would be happy with battery life. My Dash gets 2-3 days easy with that kind of usage.

I'll be honest... the phone is nice, but it will most likely go up on e-bay as the Dash is much better for me (I need PIM, e-mail, and voice... no doc editing, major surfing).

I am going to guess that the best feature of the 750 (HSDPA), is what kills it's battery so fast. Seeing 908 kbps is pretty sweet!

Many of the BJ battery comments are from users commenting after the first day or two. I believe if you read the Forums you'll find people that hold onto theirs find the battery performance improves within a week. I know mine did.

Reviews like that are suspect unless the conditions(ie. amount of use, type of network in use, etc) are fully documented. Otherwise they drift too far into the subjective.

Like so many others my BJ sucked the battery dry within the first few day. I couldnt go through the day without switching the battery after 5-6 hours of heavy usage. After owning it for a few week I can go through the entire day on the same batt and still be @ 1 bar of battery when I sit it on the charger @ the end of the day. I plan to get the extended just in case but like I said the battery situation improved in my case.

Probably a lot of it is the new toy factor. It's hard to resist fiddling with it on the first couple of days.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

I get pretty good battery life on mine. about 3 hours of music(napster) 30 mins of podcast push email. with hsdpa hack about 15 texts 20 emails 30 mins of web and 40 mins of talk. I get home and have about half the battery left. my blackjack would have died after the 3 hours of music and push email on

The first cycle of the 750 was only about 4 hours for me. Of ciourse I used it for about 4 HOURS STRAIGHT so what do you expect? Since then it's getting better and better. My 650 was the same way. Once the battery is conditioned, it should make it most of the day. The 750's battery life is better than the 8525 by far.

I have a blackjack and it gets moderate use:

1-2 hrs phone daily
Exchange server sync every 15
Gmail check every 15
Bluetooth radio set to "on" most days
Internet surfing <30 min

I also live in Indy, constant 3G. I believe this takes a heavy toll on the battery also, as I've read that 3G considerably drains the battery over EDGE.

I have a 750 coming tomorrow, will be interested to see the life on it.

I have had the Blackjack since Black Friday and the battery is not an issue. I am happy to have the second battery, but only swap batteries about once a week, otherwise I throw it on the charger at the end of the day. I think maybe Samsung saw that the first couple of charges had battery issues and just said let's throw them a bone with the 2nd battery just in case.

2 months in and my Blackjack battery life has become fantastic. I have no idea why but yesterday and today I used the phone a lot, especially email and internet and the battery hardly went down. I just got home from work and I still have all 3 bars.

Hands down Blackjacks' battery life sucks balls!

Posted by: speedtec11s

BTW thats just my opinion, I had mine since launch day, and after an 8 hour shift, with a few calls to customer care, and a few customer calls, and some aim sessions, my battery would be a 1 bar. I conditioned them, I charged them, and I tried other batteries....I like battery life ahahahaha! Overall its one of the best phones on the market, with the best features, and its our only smart/pda phone with aim/oz messenger pre loaded on it whoo hoo!

I just got my BlackJack on my corporate email (MS Exchange Push) yesterday. I typically receive up to 100 emails per day. From usage of 7:00AM to 11:30AM, (emails, a few phone calls, and one web check) I was at 20% remaining battery. As a business user, that is unacceptable. Don't get me wrong, I love the form factor, speed of 3G, display, and Windows Smartphone is growing on me. I bought this phone to evaluate vs. the BlackBerry 8700c. While from a "coolness" factor the BlackJack has the 8700c beat, it's left wanting for business usability. Some of this is more of a Windows Smartphone issue, but not all.

i find my BJ's batt life better than my t750
but then again, t750 is oh so delicious, so i put up with it
