hello,

i am planning on getting the 8525 witht he unlimited pda data plan, can i tether th phone to my laptop and use it as a modem?

also what are some good GPS programs for the 8525

Yes, you have to download a program to your laptop that will allow it to see your 8525 as a modem and then dial a specific number that activates it as a broadband connection. You should be able to do a search to get more specifics on how to do it. I did it myself with my wifes 8525 and it worked like a charm.

Works two ways:

1. You can tether using your phone by using wireless modem option (bt or wired (usb)) but you need to install the HTC modem on your cingular CD that came with your phone.

2. Another option is to go and do a BT connection with your phone which will automatically connect via BT as a modem.

Either option is essentially the same. It's just how you would access it.

no extra fees from cingular?

Extra fees if you do not use the right plan or you tether excessively on the wrong plan.

Yup something like that. I never heard of anyone ever hammered for it but I wouldn't suggest doing it everyday tethering, otherwise, it can become suspicious, considering they do have plans that allows u to do that type of bandwidth.

if iget a Media MAx plan i can still tether and use IE for internet right? a cingular rep said u have to use a special programon the phone and it is limited to sports, and weather...bascially its not a real browser. is that correct?
