Unlocking Kyocera KX16 Candid from Alltel to use with Ntelos prepay

I have a Kyocera KX16 Candid camera phone that I used with Alltel. I would like to know how to unlock it to use with Ntelos prepaid. I have canceled my contract with Alltel mostly because I couldn't get a local number for the area I live in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I called Ntelos and the call center told me I would have to take the phone to Alltel and have them unlock it, but that would mean paying them. That is a stupid idea to me. I've seen some ways to do it, but I wanted to see what you guys here had to suggest. Thanks.
