How to turn the backlight OFF when V3 is open

I've searched and found quite a few people who (inexplicably to me) want the screen on the back of their flip to always be on.
I want to do the exact opposite - I want to have it always be OFF when the flip is open. It serves absolutely no purpose being lit up in that position, and I'd much rather save battery life.
I've looked through many seem and modding guides, to no avail. Anyone know how to do this?
