Don't think anyone will get this phone (except Japaneses in japan) since we can't use it....

I think everyone is waiting for the official release of this phone by panasonic directly (if they plan to release it).

yeah- I remember it was going to be called the VS70(?) when it gets released outside Japan. I hope they don't cancel an international release.

yea i wish they release this phone, the OLED external display and that auto flip is veryy nice

hopefully the battery wont be as a dissapointment like the 6131

I'd say they've already cancelled their worldwide release. It first appeared on the Bluetooth SIG's website as the VS70, then some months later it was changed to 705P.

Now, a 706P has appeared both at the Bluetooth SIG's website and at the FCC (which is labelled there as the VS70a, incidentally). It will probably be announced in a week or two, when Softbank announces its Spring lineup of phones, which will also include the new Sharp 812SH, 813SH and 813SHe.

But yeah, I'd say they've cancelled the worldwide release. I guess they feel they're not ready to take on the international phone market yet.

I have one in my hand (705p) but can't use it, it's locked.
My friend got it from Japan, his company got it for him but they forgot
to register the USIM card so I can not register the phone on any networks.

i'd rather get those unlocked Samsung softbank phones, if you want similar effects (thinness, color etc)

in fact, all Samsung phone that are ever released on softbank have all been unlocked

the only let down is the lack of english T9

you know what... I am actually having some second thoughts...

there is software available that might be able to do it but it is for siemens... the 705p uses the same platform as newer siemens (and the iphone)... just do a google for bsreader, papua and sgold2.

Greetings all!
After googling the hell out of it, I am beginning to think unlocking the 705p is impossible, yet I am still in denile and begging for anyones help, I love my phone !!
Why make it umpossible to unlock when you can unlock loads of phones? arghhhhh frustrating!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

hey xplicitpin0i, I was wondering, since you now have it unlocked. Would it be possible to execute the same trick as the VS3 in terms of loading Java applications via cable by loading the test mode like in the VS3.

hmm.. havent got to play around with it much yet, so not sure about games but for a triband the receptions pretty good, much better than my friends vs3 and a little bit better than my 903sh..

Well, all I know is that those phones do support the new MIDP 2.0 JVM's on it, so you can install games on it.... Was just wondering if you could boot it off through the cable. Since I might think about getting one myself for just this.

yes there is a reprov screen you get it twice if you go to the main menu then go to media.. unlike the sharps it doesnt recognize m4a music files but simply changing the ending to mp4 will make them work just fine

does it support up to 1gb cards?
more observations for you guys,
-media player loads songs pretty fast since it takes it way less time to scan all the 100+ songs than my 903sh and slightly faster than the 904sh..
-its only MA3 for mmf tones pretty disappointing but at least its louder than the 703shf..
-i cant seem to get flash wallpapers on the phone or does it even support flash? i read somewhere that it did..
-battery life is pretty good and reception too
-i need to do a reprov in order to access the games folder on the memory card..

if you guys have any questions ask away..

well thats what i was told.. i wouldnt really know, and beside there is no such thing as a non softbank branded 705p since they are manufactured exclusively for softbank

about the 705p its still great however unlike the sharps i own which prevent you from playing music when the battery is getting low, it lets you run the music player until the battery is close to empty and only then will it prevent you..
and also once the battery indicator goes down a bar anywhere from 3-4 hours your phone will run out of battery

I'll post my pics when I get my pss, the thing is, it supports operator logo as it has gsm in it and detects cingular/tmobile networks

But my 705p is pissing me off, its not formating my microsd card, so not sure if its the card or not, might have been a ebay fake, but it worked well on my pantech

probably not, but what I am wondering about is using a pss/hypersim on a locked 903sh, ufortunately I have wap/gprs disabled on my account so I cant test it out.

The 705p that is locked I have does have the network settings available to add and remove like a 903sh with japanese firmware. I do know a unlocked japanese fw 903sh can go online, but with pss/hyper idk, havent found any info

Can someone explain to me how the 705Px differs from the 705P in features? Assuming the PSS sim solution works on 705Px (at least that's what I was able to decipher from Taiwanese forums), would it work on 705P as well?

hmm...

I just got his in the mail today, 705p engineering prototype from what it seems, unlocked and very hard to use, only has english and german language on it,

as you can see its on att, UI is different from softbank model, has vodafone part for the circle. Really really odd, out going calls wasnt working to my voice mail

Weirdest thing on it, the battery cover off my white 705p doesnt even fit!

well the UI is not even like the VS series firmware that is the thing, its really odd, like it doesnt have the panasonic firmware usability like my locked 705p. What I do remember, from kevbodian mentioning is how its based off siemins sgold2 platform, which I am wondering since siemeins is a german company, thats why the german language is on it.

btw, if you want one, on ebay search "vodaphone" its under lot of 5, but the seller will sell one buy it self if you want to get a hold of one

edit: I was expecting vodafone ugly branding on the firmware, instead I got the hardest GUI to use, its worse than motorola

Can you give the a name and/or location of the store? And do they carry any other imports?

i cant get IR to work, well it say its on, but it couldnt see a file I was sending from my 903sh, bluetooth doesnt work. I have not heard any sound, not sure if the earpiece works or even the speaker phone, ui is far from complete, I can read my sms, contacts and everything else.

Also settings dont save,the volume has to be adjusted everytime.

Ouch. Sounds like it's not particularly useful as an actual phone. It's still something interesting to have around as a collector's item, I guess.

I'm working on getting an unlocked one off ebay right now. Still sucks though, compared to my old Docomo Panasonic P901is. I use to live in Japan and loved that baby, but now that I left, it's become a paperweight. I should have just got the worldwide service and continued paying Docomo.

If you're curious, over in another thread (in the "Other Manufacturers" section) someone's working on getting DoCoMo phones to work with foreign SIM cards. Why not go over there and check it out if you're still interested in your P901iS...

Hey, did you also get MMS to work? Sounds like you are able to configure WAP settings, so MMS should be also working?!
