Well, i have a 2004 Saab 9-3 2.0t... stock
I put a bangin stereo in, but now i'm bored again, and want to tweak it out.
what would be the cheapest way to improve performance without hurting the car, or voiding the warranty? Some have told me a racing chip is the way to go.

I/H/E

I- Get a cold air intake if they have them available. This would be between 100 and 300ish

H - Headers. These are hard to find for some cars and pretty easy for others. Depending on the car 300 - 800ish

E - Exhaust. Get a catback exhaust system. It wont only sound great, but performance will be gained. this varies on too many factors can be 500 to like over a 1000 depending if it is a pre-bent system or a person doing a custom tubing and what type of tubing and stuff.

I would recommend a intake exhaust combo for about 10 - 20 HP. It wont only help HP but you'll love the sound of your car!

intake and exhaust will void the warranty, right?
why will i like the sound of the car so much if its only a 4 banger

Posted by: The Mac Ace

ok what intakes and exhausts would you suggest for a saab 9-3?

Posted by: mike5411

regarding the warrenty, i took this from maxima.org

Quote:
"Under the Magnusson-Moss Act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer's original warranty, unless that warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids the warranty or that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure. The easiest way to check this is to look in your owner's manual under "What is not covered." Nonetheless, Dealers receive less compensation for warranty work than regular service rates and some have tried to deny warranty service. Under Magnusson-Moss Act a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before they can deny warranty coverage. If they cannot prove such claim-or proffer a questionable explanation- it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission (202-326-3128) administers the Magnusson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law."

Read this for more information: http://www.usdieselparts.com/mmwa.cfm

This is federal law. Don't let any dealer try to tell you different, if they do, go to another one or call Nissan USA and get them to give the service manager a little call too.

The only way for you to find out is to do your own research and find out. Everybody will always have different opinions on different products.

Posted by: mike5411

Posted by: The Mac Ace

saab engine is unique to GM afaik... its low hp high pressure Turbo, friggin FAST. most other GMs are gas guzzlers

Posted by: mike5411

do you know more specficaly what engine your car has like a "2.0L Turbo EcotecŪ DOHC VVT SIDI" or something along those lines

Posted by: The Mac Ace

how the hell would i find that out?

Posted by: eimajuno

AFAIK, a cat back exhaust will NOT void the warranty on your car. Unsure about the intake.

Posted by: boston_errol

I want to buy a Saab 9-2x aero and join the saab bandwagon

Intakes are easy to install yourself.....if unsure about warranty factors, swap back to the original before service

It's hard to void a manufacturer's warranty - people overestimate it all the time. You won't break the warranty on your car by installing an intake or exhaust.

The dealer must prove that whatever you did caused the problem, which many times it isn't, and they can't prove it anyway. Don't worry about it. The bigger problem you need to worry about are your local laws.

I see you're in California, which is an un-American state lacking many basic freedoms. Be careful what you put in your car because at the slightest hint of modification (from what I understand from other Californians), you'll get pulled over for some BS excuse, told to pop your hood, then probably end up getting a couple tickets or getting your car towed.

An "illegal" intake and exhaust isn't worth a bunch of tickets... keep it legal.

Posted by: The Mac Ace

heh i havent been pulled over in my vroombox van (www.vroombox.com) yet

Posted by: The Mac Ace

wow the guys on saabcentral are owninating me for my lack of car knowledge

I didn't mean to make fun of turbo, but as I recall, my Prelude didn't have headers..

edit: but since you're local, and I'm going to be going down south tonight.. Run me. I want to see how fast an automatic Saab is..

To summarize the M.M.A.:

If your 'modification' causes the problem, you're warranty is garbage with regard to that issue.

The question is if it can be proven that your part did in fact cause the problem, or in MOST CASES can you prove it didnt?
