Hi out there Stone of Love and anyone else with answers,
Here's the latest on my Treo 700p. I synced to update my Contact list this AM, 1/13/07, and a duplication of my contacts occured, as well as the new update going through once.
In my last question, which received an answer asking if my Palm Desktop has the same name for my device, as is on the Palm Treo, the answer is, "Yes". I don't think there's anything wrong with the USB cable.
Brief History[COLOR=DeepSkyBlue]: Bought a Palm Treo recently. I first did a sync with the Palm HotSync. It only did a sync for my Contacts. A dialogue box called for iSync on my Mac. I hadn't yet downloaded iSync Palm Conduit software. I did subsequently. It did do a sync. However, there were glitches. One Palm Tech person had me try a "hard reset". Didn't work. I've actually never been able to do one. Eventually, due to issues regarding Verizon Wireless Sync, I was advised to get a new phone - same model.
I got a new Palm Treo 700p - I had trashed the old Palm software, as instructed by a Palm tech person. When I installed the software from the new phone, it had all of my contacts and calendar events listed. The name of the phone was one of the old names I had given it. On the first phone, I was advised by a Palm tech person to re-install the software, each time changing the name of the device.
With the new phone, new software, the last old name I had used, appeared.
This sounds like a crazy nightmare, comedy routine, right?
I'm thinking that there are corrupt file issues here. The Palm tech person had me trash the device folder to refresh the software. This seemed to work.
This has been like an "Alice-in-What's-going-on-here? land" experience.
My phone is fine with the Internet, and getting my email. As I said, this morning, it updated my new contact, but duplicated the others.
Also, let me say, that the Palm Tech also had me do a "hard reset" on this new device, but it wouldn't do. It did do a "soft reset", however.
Right now, things seem O.K. enough. I don't know if I'll get duplication the next time I sync. Also, let me say that "HotSync" is checked enabled.
I'd appreciate your input, and anyone else's who has an idea about this.
There's a book I'm reading currently, "Fooled by Randomness, The Hidden Role of Chance in Life and in the Markets" by Nassim Nicholas Taleb - perhaps there's a corollary here. The Palm software is supposed to work on a Mac 10.3.9, but . . . ??????
Thanks!
WJ.
