From Treo 650 to 8525 - Any suggestions to relieve my culture shock?

Greetings All,

A few weeks ago my 8525 arrived, and I migrated from my 650. While there are improvements, there are a few things that are holding me back and I'm hoping that it is just due to my WM5 inexperience.

First of all, dialing is much slower. Many of my contacts are businesses, and it seems that 'Smart Dialing' and the contact search are not able to search by business name. Is this typical? It seems absurd, and I'm thinking it may be a problem with Missing Sync (the phone is synced with OS X.) Am I correct?

Second, the Treo had the ability to initiate dialing or contact searching from the today screen, and I greatly miss this. Is there a way to automatically start a contact search when letters or numbers are entered?

Third, and this wasn't expected, the 8525 feels slooow. I don't have much installed, and the response of the OS is very poor for the amount of power the processor has, is this just a trade off for an OS thats not as old as PalmOS? I find that if I use any third party plugins that the OS response drastically is hindered.

Thanks for the Insights!
George

I don't know wha it feels slow to you, my 8525 is great. all you have to do to initiate dialing is hit the green call button, it may be one extra button press, but it is fairly easy to do.
As far as culture shock goes, just remember that this is a new operating system. It will be different from the Palm OS. That is one of the things that drive me crazy about Walt Mossberg (technology writer for Wall Street Journal) his major complaint about windows mobile is that he is used to using a Palm OS device. That is not a missing feature of Windows Mobile, it is something that is wrong with him. You cant criticize a Macintosh, for not being made by dell. The best way to feel more comfortable with Windows Mobile is to Use it a lot, and remember it works differently from the old treo, not worse.

Regarding Slowness:

I've been installing most apps on my memory card, its an A Data 2GB that seems to be slower than the 8525's internal memory. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

There are times when I have to wait 5 seconds to see the 'Programs' or 'Settings' folder to come up--without any apps open.

Some apps that I ran on my Treo run slower on the 8525, perhaps its bad programing from the app developer.

There are a lot of things the 8525 does much better than the 650, my intent is not to whine, but to learn how to do things better.

I didn't mean to call you a whiner. Sorry if you took it that way. One thing to remember is that when you hit the x button to close a program, it really only minimizes it, so it is still running in the background. You may think you dont have any programs running, when in fact you have many running in the background. There are many good programs out there to actually close programs, my favorite is HTC X-Button, which is widely available and free. Welcome to the wonderful world of Windows Mobile.
