Door Scratches, dents, etc

Man.. I just got a scratch on my driver's side door this afternoon after some lady parked next me while I was working. I was helping some customers while in the store and then my alarm went off. Looked outside the window and saw a lady parked next to me but thought it'd probably be the wind or something setting off my pager's shock alarm sensors. Got done with customers and looked outside and saw a freaking scratch on my driver's side door.

* I dont understand how someone can just park between two freaking cars so closely and expect to open their doors widely. *

Considering that the person went shoppin at the grocery store, i waited outside next to our cars and reparked my car in prevention of another freaking scratch caused by her. Smoked a ciggy and just chilled until the person came back. Lady finally comes back and I told her the situation and then she tells me that she doesnt believe that it was her fault after seeing my car moved apart a little more. Got her information and now called it in to the insurance claims department.

Now I gotta pay out of pocket to fix someone else's ******* problems. Freaking annoying.

P.S. Also hate it when shoppers just leave shoppin carts in random places next to cars and then some how having the cart hit a car later on. So stupid. Even worse when the people who are suppose to manage the carts become lazy and wait 1-2 hours before actually collecting the carts and putting them in the cart stations.

Anyone else share similar experiences?

yea, but there's really nothing any of us who actually appreciate our vehicles can do about it. You have to understand that the vast majority of people view cars as some random machine that gets them from point A to B and that's it. That's why people don't care about dirty cars, swirls, proper detailing, dirty engine bays, scratches, etc.

People are just careless when it comes to other people's property - I think that's more of a sad reality of our culture. I drive a Scion tC, and I'm not sure if you've ever taken a close look at one, but the doors are quite long and HEAVY. It makes getting out of the car, especially for me, a long-legged driver, difficult in tight spots. What I forgot to mention (as the point of writing this), is that no matter how crappy the car beside me, I always take extra effort (if necessary) to not hit it. I respect other people's property whether or not they respect mine; I like to think I'm the better man whenever I can make that happen.

It's easy for most people to say "just park away from everyone else." Sure, I do this whenever I can, but when you're on campus, you often have to take what you can get. I scheduled my classes in the early morning this semester, because I got sick of parking... so now I just get there before most people do. It's great, because I can park with plenty of space around me. Of course, I know that by the time I get back there will be cars in every single space including the ones around me... I just take a chance.

I think to a certain extent, you just have to live with some scratches. If you want, you can look into these magnetic pads you can temporarily put on the side of your car and will help protect against minor dings and scratches from other people - then just take it off when you're ready to drive off.

Magnetic pads huh? Interesting. Never heard about those before. Well after the incident I talked to several car enthusiast friends and they told me that I should get my car fully detailed (wash, claybar, wax, etc.) to get rid of the scratch since it probably didn't really go that far into my paint... it just sucks that I have to spend $80+ to fix a problem that could've been fully avoided if people would be just responsible and considerate to other people's properties. I was also thinking about getting a touch up paint pen that dealships give you to cover up scratches and such with the exact paint color but then realized that it'll probably offset the clearcoat and reflection on my car.. so I'm probably just gonna go do the full detail path instead and get rid of other things along the way such as swirl marks, bug stains, and tar.

I regret not punching or keying the other person's car just to have some satisfaction at least since they're not going to be of any help or monetary assistance in the incident since everything is coming out of my own money to fix the problem.

Reason I guess I'm so mad is because I just bought my 2006 Acura Rsx-S and it's my first NEW car and that it's only been like 6-8 months. Plus I've spent so much money on upgrades (suspensions, short shifter, exhaust ) only to end up being more paranoid about it. But I guess that's life and nothing in this world is perfect and that my expectations towards other people's actions are just too unjustified.

oh you're in for it..because of my modifications i think my car has become MORE of a target for punk kids to vandalize. since ive installed a rear lip, and different tailights, ive gotten keyed twice, and sideswiped once (thank god for those door protectors..saved me quiet a few times). its the worst feeling, but ive kind of learned to live with it . the sad thing is, i too always park next to islands and theres even 2 different spots at my work that are completely protected on both sides (kinda like a vip spot if you will, but its far away so its usually empty) that i park at. but i still manage to have 2 door dings, been keyed twice, and been sideswiped. people just dont give a damn.

OMG!!! so do i. just the other day, i was in the parking lot sitting in my car, talking on my cellphone before i start to drive. this guy who was a parking space away from me, loaded the stuff he bought and left his shopping cart in the space between his car and my car.

ok, so he left. whatever. i was still on the phone, then BAM!@!! the stupid ****ing cart rammed into my rear fender. i was soooooo pissed off. so i got out of my car to move the piece of **** cart, and guess what?? the thing where you return your carts was on the other side of my car. the lazy ***** *** punk couldn't walk his cart over just one more space over. OMG. i wanted to ring someone's neck.

but yeah, i feel your pain. i caught a lady once who swung her door open and it banged on my car. i started yelling at her. i felt bad afterwards cause she was an old lady. but still. people need to ****ing be considerate of others. i don't care if you don't care about your car, but please care about mine!

those punks are just jealous of your car.

When I brought my car 7 months ago, I had hardly any dents or scratchs on my doors or fenders, about 2-3 months into having it, i was walking to my car and a glaze of light showed that i had at least a dozen dents on the drivers side door alone. And every day i have a new one, whether its my fender or my doors. Even though i pararell park next to my house, people still double park, open their doors and bam. Nobody has respect for anyone elses property. Like Paul said " i respect other people's property whether or not they respect mine", Im the same way. My back bumper was a huge mess, all i had was scratches and dings, all over it, it looked like it had been in an accident or something. I repainted it by myself, Not the best nor professional work, but still it looked good, Only to my amazment that yet again, its been scratched numrous times. In Brooklyn, NY, its impossible to park without having you car get damaged. People just dont give a **** about your or their own car. How many times have i been bumped in a parking spot, or someone opening their door to wide and hit mine. Sometimes i wanna get out of the car and just bash theirs in, just to show them how i feel.
I know that a good amount of people on here are teenagers and pay for their own car and its repair/mods and I myself have to balance school and work, and i really dont have money to put out just to fix those dents. So pretty much its a really big pain in the ***.

That's sick. My mom's car got keyed pretty badly and it's a 12 year old Camry! I keep it looking damn good so I guess some jerk decided they were jealous one day and keyed it.

As far as my car, I've gotten the majority of my dings from school. I'm sure other people know what I'm talking about. I've made a mental note of the cars (I assume faculty) who are always there before me and leave late. This way, I can park next to them and they'll still be there when I leave. Parking in a big empty space is not a good idea because by the time you get back people will have been squeezing in and out of stalls all around you.

Anyway -- to me, it's just not worth it to have a nice/new car already. Too many people just don't F'ing care about the property of others. It sucks but it's not worth the grief. I'm really itching to pick up an '07 Camry but I can't live with the fact that it'll be scarred with dings and scratches in no time.

wow

insurnace claim for a dent? i hope it was a fairly expensive dent lol.

but yah i understand ur pain, why do people park so closely anyways? jebus, i always just ASSUME the person that was previously parking next to them made them move over to my side, whihc is of course still inconsiderate.

When I used to have my GTO, I would park at the back of lots and diagonally between two spaces. I know it's being a d*** but no one ever parks that far out in the lot anyways.

Posted by: Kenosis

Well... I just got done talking to my claim adjuster and basically she told me what I already knew. I'm really considering going to that lady's house and throwing an egg at her car or something to make me feel better. But then karma is going to bite me in the *** again afterwards.

So I'm just gonna go get my car fully detailed and suck it up.

BTW.. I agree with everyone about those shopping cart experiences since it happpens in front of my store every freakin day.

That's a good way to draw attention to a nice car and get it vandalized .

Me and my co-workers double park in our workplace parking lot all the time. Actually prevents our cars from having any more dents/scratches caused by other people in a public parking lot. However... the birds still do thier damage to us still with their white bombs of terror...

what kind of car do you have again?

and oh yeah when my mom had just got her brand new minivan we came out to find a big dent on the side of it, my dad kicked the other persons car and made a dent for them to enjoy

If I have to open my car wide enough to come an inch against the other car, atleast I place my hand between my door's edge and the other person's car (not actually touching the other car).

And when I had the taurus, it was easy to keep because it was white, but now that I have a blue car, I watch out for every scratch or ding possible (or maybe its because I'm paying for it)

right, because you knew the other person did it, right?

I hope you realize what you did made you no better than the other person...

I am in simmilar case as you but worster bro,

Last week, i parked my car outside a plaza to go to a convience to grab a drink, i come outside someone hit my car and sped off coudlnt see who it was no note of the licence plate or nothing, and they had no cameras at the parking lot of the plaza, someone hit my car from the back, soo much paint came off the bumper but thank god no DENT

Now guess what 5 days right AFTER i park my car outside of school go to class, and my car is black you really cant see any dents at night, so i am 100% my car was in perfect condition when i parked there except the paint that came off because of the idiot at the convience, so i start driving and i start hearing screachign sound from the front tire i wonder what it was i get out, and BAM a HUGE DENT in the car, man i was pisst of the whole week, now i gotta fix the HUGE DENT and the Scratch Outta my own POCKET!!! Like fawk i was going crazy!

Ha ha ha. I'll have to Google that later. Personally - I don't care if someone takes up two stalls at the end of a parking lot where it's empty.. But if there's other cars around it drives me nuts. People who can't park straight in their own stall are just as bad

Posted by: soyabean17

Never park on corners either. Idiots who make too sharp of a turn can scratch ur bumpers. Regardless of how careful you are when opening a door to prevent youself from hitting the other person, you can prevent a person from hitting you car. There was a few times when people opening their doors hit my car while I was in it. I simply walked out in silence, looked to see if there was a problem, and sat back in the car waiting for my girl as if nothing happened. I like to play it cool *thumbs up* hahah.

Anyways, u should also be careful when opening your door, cuz if you do hit the one next to you hard enough, the edge of your own door will get scuffed too. So yea...

Also, out of no where, i saw a big scratch about 3 ft long on my roof. It looks like a key scratch. This brings me to the topic on how people are so disrespectful and stupid. Why would anyone just go around using their keys to scratch up another persons property? All I have to say is.... I was sad for a while lol. But oh well, nothing i can do anymore
