Any possible way of getting a Blackberry Pearl without a data plan?

I want to switch to Verizon and the phone I want is the Blackberry. I like the form factor, the PDA functionality is sufficient for my needs, and I'm not a big fan of WM5. Is there any possible way of getting a Blackberry Pearl without a Blackberry plan? If not, can I cancel it without penalty immediately? I guess I can go to T-Mobile where the Blackberry plan is cheaper and my local indirect said I can cancel in 3 months without the penalty of losing the rebate on it. Cingular is more attractive because I have a lot of friends and family on Cingular, so the M2M is very attractive.

I know that i can go the unlocked route, but I suspect that when i try to activate, that's when I'll be forced to get a Blackberry plan.

Thanks

There's no way to get a Pearl with Verizon (they're currently all GSM) so you don't even need to worry about it.

Why are you posting on a Cingular forum asking if you can get service on Verizon without a Blackberry data plan?

Oops, it should read "from Verizon" so it should say

If you don't want the plan you can either just take it off a day after you get the plan, right on the website.

Or, get a free phone when you switch carriers, go on a site like craigslist and buy a Pearl for $200-$300 and use it.

The cheapest blackberry plan for cingular runs $29.99. You probably could get no data on the device, but kinda defeats the purpose of a blackbery IMHO.
