680 battery life

Hi,

I am a 10 year palm user. (Personal, Professional, IIIX, now Tungsten T). I want to go all in 1. PDA/phone.

I want the solution to be just as small as my current palm. (Slider remember) or even smaller, but offer Calendar, Contact, Memo and mail sync.

I have tried windows 5 devices, the last was an IPAQ (non-phone) and after having to reset it a number of time, losing my activesync connection with my computer multiple times, and also taking longer to do just about everything on the device, back it went to bestbuy.

So now I have narrowed it down to the Treo 680 or the Pearl.

The Pearl seems so much smaller. And the Treo seems to have these god-awfull battery problems.

Can someone please tell me if all the battery problems went away. And I have read about the reconditioning some people do. But do you always have to be very carefull with the battery? I heard about having to let it run down all the way, not keeping it on the charger too long, and then it might be better after a few weeks. But will I always have to take care of the battery like this.

One of the benifits of having a device like this, is it should be easy to manage. Come home, charge it, wake up the next day and go out. Not worry about discharging, time charging, etc.

Anyway, if anyone can offer any comments on the above it would be much appreciated. Specifically size and battery life.

Thanks,
Allan

Well, I've owned most of the same devices you have, and I now own the 680. Two actually. Got my wife one too.

And I've got to say, the battery isn't what I would prefer. But I can live with it. I have no problem getting up and going at 8am and making it to midnight with this phone. I consider myself a moderate user, 5ish ten minute or less calls a day, couple of surfs of the internet, and some days get the the mail a couple of times. I also go into my date book several times a day, and will play some solitaire as well. I don't use blue tooth, and rarely use the beam function.

I have noticed the Camera drain, so that seems like an ongoing issue. But on the days that I don't use it, I get pretty fair battery drain. I have gone three days with light use, and can make it from, like a Monday morning to a Tuesday evening most often without charging.

Unless you are an extreme power user, I don't think you will have a problem with this phone. If you are and still want it, get a second battery and keep your charger handy. It charges pretty quick, and if your like me, laptop always handy, charging with the USB cable is handy as well!

Hope this helps.

So far i've owned a couple Treo 650s and now one 680. I love the new phone and im very familiar with the palm interface. The only thing that bugs me is the battery life. My 650s would last a minimum of two days. The 680 would barely last a full day. There has been a couple evenings where i would be making my final phone calls and battery display was flashing.

the treo 680 is a good pda/phone, but my experienced battery life is dispicable. I dont have any problems carrying the phone in my front pocket with a skiin case on. So size isnt an issue, especially if youve been using palm.

I have tried several recommendations to improving battery quality/life, but have had no luck thus far. Sometimes i have trouble going 8 hours. As soon as im a month with my phone, im doing an exchange by mail with the battery, ive had my phone almost a month.

So the blackberry huh......
I can tell you im not a fan of the sure type keyboard, but maybe it just takes some getting used to. If your a document guy, the BB not the phone for you. Its easier to navigate excell, word with a stylus. The bb is popular among girls (ok thats just opinion). Too much of a chick phone for me though.

Ill update with batt life.
