The Official Neo001 hates Treo thread. Others invited too.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: 100thMonkey

Since Neo001 finds Treo's of all flavors disagreeable, I thought he might appreciate a thread proclaiming and focusing on his distaste. Of course, this thread can be updated with new things that he finds distasteful about Treo's and their users. And by all means, other users are welcome to hate on Treo in this thread too.

No harm, no foul, just a place to consolidate the undesriable sentiments about Treo

Posted by: Mashie

OMG you would think it was an iPhone with the Hate towards it!! Especially when so many people love it

Posted by: RayanMX

I personally like the Treo series either Palm OS or Windows Mobile. The form factor it's simply unbeatable if you like single handed devices. My only gripe it's that they don't include wifi module built into the machine. At first I thought the 240x240 screen of the Windows Mobile version leaved too much to be desired, but once I played with a friend's Treo 750 I realized it's not that bad at all.

I really look forward on a Treo with built in wifi.

Cheers!

You couldnt pay me to give up my Treo. After almost 5 months of using the 8125 and learning to really dislike the device, Im so happy to be back in Treo land. Ive only had it for 5 days and Ive already got more things setup on it then in the 5 months with the 8125 because I just found it so cumbersome to use. To each their own, and Id never put anyones taste down, but ergonomics are just too big a thing to sacrifice for a device such as these.

Posted by: 100thMonkey

Uh oh...the thread dedicated to hate, has so far turned into love. WOW, that's a testament to the power of Treo, the power of love. LOL

Posted by: mikewchandler

this thread should be good as long as their is NO FLAMING.

Posted by: Kabuk1

d000d I love Treos! I love my PPC too. Why can't we all just get along?

Posted by: PINHEAD

Neo loves the Treo. It rhymes with his screen name!

See, he might disagree, with that but I know the truth. See, he bought his "Excaliber" from Mike, but what he doesn't know is that Mike was only telling him it was an Excaliber. It is really a Treo 750. I hope he doesn't read this thread or he might have to throw it away...

I'm glad this isn't a negative thread...gotta support double 0!

Try the PPC Treo that Sprint has the 700WX

LOL, that's what I don't get, why he likes Exaclibur but hates Treo. Oh well, to each his own, but now there exists a thread for venting, though it seems like Treo just continues to gather supporters

Laugh my a.. off!!!

This is Neo....

This is Neo and a Treo.....

This is the end result..........

I can understand not liking the Treo. The keyboard is tiny, the connector is still proprietary (but at least they have kept the same one for a few years), no Wifi, battery life on the 750 and 680 isn't very good, the speakerphone isn't good enough, and there are some other annoyances that Palm created to help the device.

However, I still think that there is more good about the Treo 750 and 680 than there is bad. I'd be pretty happy with either one. Everyone has preferences...there are some devices I have never tried and don't ever plan to so if Neo doesn't like the Treo than that means there is an extra one out there for those who want one!

baa battery life is fine on the 750 its the 680 that has huge issues with battery life

I also don't get the facination with landscape screens. I have read where some programs (mostly games) have issues with 240x320 on its side...

As long as the WM5 Treo's continue to use the square non QVGA screens I will not like them. But that's just me. I'm pretty much a PDA first phone second kind of guy though. And every red blooded PPC lover knows that a REAL PPC doesn't have a square screen. People didn't fall in love with the square screen they fell in love with a QVGA one. Now Palm thinks they can just mosey on in and make it square and that's how it's gonna be. I wish M$ never coded in the 240x240 option in PPC.

Can you imagine if Dell started shipping the AXIM's with 240x240 screens...

I should have reworded it. Anything above 240x240 will be ok. I guess because I've never seen a 480x480 PPC. Has one ever been made?

Posted by: PINHEAD

It is not about the shape of the screen folks! Really...It is the relatively low resolution of the 240x240 screen that is having the most effect on people's perception. No one is complaining about the shape of the 320x320 screen on the Palm OS Treos. Also realize that the Treo 750 has a small screen size so the 240x240 is squeezed into a smaller space making it much sharper than other similar resolution screen devices (like the iPAQ 6915 which looks grainy in comparison).

2 pages long and neo hasn't even posted...what gives? i love my treo 750v, but i am starting to really dislike the square screen.

Posted by: Ishimaru

I was going to say the same thing PiTT :P

Posted by: tylerwhite

Here's my progression of phones:

MPx200 > iPaq h6315 > Treo 650 > MDA > Treo 750v

I found the Treo 650 to be so "useful" because of its simplicity and form factor... but the Exchange ActiveSync and other syncing software for the Treo 650 left a lot to be desired and I live in MS Outlook for work... hence the switch to the MDA.

With the MDA, I had crappy usability but excellent sync-ing with Outlook. Go figure.

I got the Treo bug again when I went to sell my Treo 650... after testing it before the sale, I felt like it was far more usable than the MDA and almost canceled the sale.

The 750 really has the best of both worlds. I never really used the MDA's WiFi all that much, but I guess the lack of WiFi is a bit of a drawback for some people.

So...what's to hate on the 750? Nothing for me.

Posted by: blessd24

I'm on board. I hate Treo's. The 650 I had crashed all the time and got really crappy reception.

As a Cingular Rep I got a ton of arguments about the Treo, more than any other phone. The 680 and 750 might be better though, I havent used either yet.

Ok . . . I will make this as short as I can and as polite as I can (if I said what was on my mind I will get banned and I love this place too much) what is it to talk about ?? its the dumbest thing I have seen , people falling for a device that has the poorest resolution available , no WiFi , its ugly , its . . . well its a Treo , I will not make any more comments here so do or say what ever you guys want , this crappola is not worth of having a discussion , one thing that I will like to say is that is freaking annoying to have every single thread with a "my treo does this , my treo does that . . . " when the thread its not even about the damn phone , yes phone , because if you guys want a PPC get a 320x240 or 640x480 screen with WiFi and then we will talk . . .

So for all of you who love their treos good for you , for those that hate it . . . for as many or as little reasons as you may have , well you deserve a big applause and standing ovation because you have a great taste , like I do , cheers . . .

Wow... I think the 650 was the most stable device out there.... far more stable than the MDA... and I've only had to reset my 750v once.

Lol that would require buying a new phone. Not in my stars with my dismal financial state right now.

I actually prefer having two different devices, honestly. If one craps out then I still have a phone. I think you read my "Oh my god I broke it" thread, you know what I mean.

Posted by: FallN

Add me to the list. After owning a bunch of Palm devices including a Treo 600 & 650 I now can't stand anything Palm or Treo anymore. Sorry.

Palm = Rehashed old OS on rehashed old form factor.

Treo = 2 year old tech on rehashed old form factor. Still no WiFi? WTF Palm? No GPS? Too "advanced" a feature for you, Palm? Oh, that's right, your tired tech can't handle it.

Here's my thing about the Treo:

The Treo 750 is a beautiful, elegant and powerful device -- one of the best on the market -- and though I wish it had a full-sized QVGA (or better yet, VGA) screen, slightly larger keyboard and Wi-Fi, it's nonetheless one of the most superb and well thought-out devices out there. That said, my biggest stumbling block in owning a Treo has nothing to do with the Treo itself. It's Hillary.

Hillary works down the hall. Well, "works" might be a very liberal use of the verb. She mostly shops for clothes on the Intarweb and performs maintenance on her immaculately manicured nails, whether it's painting, filing or removing polish. And that's when she actually comes in to work. Hillary owns a Treo 650. She's 22, maybe 23, and uses that Treo 650 to constantly text message her other just-out-of-college friends, all of whom I can only imagine are saying roughly the same thing: "O my gawd, did u see Jordan last nite?!" "My boss just gave me work to do. What a jerk!" "Can't make dinner 2nite, have a tanning appt." "Luv this Treo! It's so deck!" Hillary couldn't care less about mobile technology; she owns a Treo because it's what all her friends own.

In other words, the Treo is a brilliant device that has been fast adopted by the masses -- including the "Hillarys" of the world. That's great for it, and awesome for Palm. But I want something different, something unique. I want something that gets me excited every time I take it out of my pocket. I want a phone that thrills me with a relentless reminder of the extraordinary possibilities of mobile technology.

That's why I carry a Hermes. That's why I carry a Universal. That's why I will carry an Omni.

Cheers!

Interesting, so it sounds like some Treo haters maybe don't hate the Treo so much as they hate being associated with what they consider to be the Treo crowd.

I think that Urban and Neo both have great points. I mean, Urban noted how great of a device that the Treo is and Neo wants to reach in his pocket for a great device. I think for a lot of people, myself included regardless of the preconceived typical user, the Treo is great for information manipulation and management. I consider myself to be a power user. I have PocketMSN polling for Hotmail, a complicated IMAP heirarchy, ActiveSync for an Exchange account going. I rely on the PIM databases (and AgendaOne!) to manage myself during the day. I access PIM information likely 50 to 100 times a day between calling people, adding tasks, deleting tasks, referencing memos (love the memo fucntion whiile on a call), and checking and changing appointments. I use the office programs frequently, including word and excel. Not so much PPT. I reference them mostly, occassional editing. Lots of using medical and psychiatric programs, looking up drugs, differential diagnoses, considering possible medical conditions, psychiatric diagnostic criteria. I don't play on my machine watching movies, listening to music, or playing games. Granted, if the screen was 800 x 640 or getting up there it might be different. If I travel, I'd prefer to sleep on a plane. I have a Hermes, internet browsing is still better on a PC, I'd prefer a 50 inch tv for watching tv. Live music at the bar is the best. But for on the go information management, PIM access, and messaging (email, text, and IM) Treo is hard to be. ALthogh I can see how the power players are disappointed. I guess for maybe me, if I am indeed a Hilary, and others like me, the WOW factor from Treo is how easy it is to use for so many different functions, while still fitting in your pocket nicely.

If they would just release the SIM free version

Posted by: neo001

Thats another thing that gets to me . . . isnt this the hate thread ?? why are people posting their sick love for this thing ?? C'mon . . . if you love it so much first of all you should marry it then open a Im in love with this thing thread . . .

Posted by: Dave Evans

I can do hate.....

I hate the small square screen. I hate that it reminds me of my uber old Palm III. I hate the fact that is does NOT have wifi. I hate that it has a proprietary plug in place of mini USB. I'll leave it at that for now.

Dave (aka Smarter)

Posted by: neo001

See people . . . smarter gets it , now C'mon let that hate flow

Posted by: juiceppc

It's pretty much just the 240x240 square screen for me. If they did this I'd be all over it. Yeah, so close yet so far...

But all Palm knows is the square screen design. They won't let HTC get creative with the Treo design. They're too scared for change.

Posted by: mikewchandler

I hate that I'm more efficient with this device due to the palm tweaks and static keyboard!!

....wait, that's not really a hate, is it?

Posted by: Mashie

The one thing that my good friend Neo is forgetting is that no matter what he things about the Treo it is going to sell a TON of WM devices which is good for WM and future WM development.

Posted by: sabesh

FWIW, Neo's Excalibur has a better keyboard than the Treo Maybe that's why he hates the Treo.

Posted by: neo001

Actually regardless of what everybody may or may not think , my Excalibur is nothing at all like this thing , I mean its thinner , better looking , better grip , better screen , better WiFi . . . oh wait this thing doesnt have WiFi , well there you go , nothing that looks or feels like it

Oh and once the Cavalier gets launched . . . hmmnn

My Treo 650 it's been working perfectly for about a year now without a single soft-reset or hard-reset (honestly). It's too bad I can't say the same about my other Pocket PC devices, even the technically superior and mighty TyTN has lots of problems. But that's another matter of discussion. I just say that the Treo form factor is better suited for one-hand operation than anything else out there Palm or WM. IMHO...

Hey Neo, what do you think of a person who owns a Treo 650 and a bunch of WM devices then??? Half-Smart???

Or a wife that owns a Treo 650??? ... Think before you talk...

You know me, you know how I love the Pocket PC platform (and all gadgets alike) and if I remember correctly I was the one who introduced you to the PPC platform some three years ago and reluctantly switched after cursing the PPC for some time... So what gives? You where a Palm fanboy remember? Chances are that you would have ended up using a Treo 650, so be grateful...

I remember you where using a dumbphone called T68i when I was using a P800 and I never called you dumb because of that...

You don't get it do you?

You don't have to be crippled to want or make use of a single hand device like the Treos (or Excalibur for that matter).

That's precisely why people love one hand devices, because they have two hands which allows them to carry a briefcase in one and a phone in the other for example.

Let's face it... You where using normal cell phones or dumbphones (as you call them) for a loooong time and never saw you using them with both hands... Why? because they where designed for one hand operation... Same with the Treos if you choose to.

hahah this is awesome! I honestly don't really care what you thing about it The only thing that I really care is that you have a good device that works for you.
