(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Rob187jj

hey

i searched on ebay/asked timsta for replacement housing for a 903 but no one seems to be able to have them. any ideas of where else i can get them?

i really want a red/white one but would settle for black
thanks
Rob

Posted by: Ultraman666

http://www.foreways.net/sharp_housing.htm is a place that I have seen them but not sure if you can still get them anymore, hopefully that helps

Posted by: Rob187jj

yea i contacted those people earlier, they refuse to sell single pieces or a few, need a minimum purchase of 50

Posted by: Ultraman666

well crap the only other one I know of is http://www.benwis.com/products.asp?id=72 had a couple friends get them from them a while ago, hope that helps also.

Posted by: azn_boi_128

how much is it?

Posted by: Rob187jj

thats what im trying to find out

Posted by: pks

If you manage to get a price, please post it here, as I am also after a 903 housing. I have contacted foreways a few months ago and got the same reply as everyone else.

Posted by: Ultraman666

I sent a email hopefully I will hear how much and let you guys know, sorry didnt look when I posted the link to see if they had a price up or not!!!

Posted by: shaznizzle

actually they dont sell it officially.... so its easy to find... i doubt you can get it..

Posted by: datoad

looking for one too, send me PM if you find one! thanks

Posted by: Junglizt1210

doesn't timsta fit housings? i forgot if he does or doesn't.

Posted by: Rob187jj

timsta use to, not anymore. i dont no if this will work but if you guys want to form some kinda group and see if we can get 30-40 ppl to buy from foreways, maybe i can negotiate with this guy ive talked to because he seemed flexible on how many purchased but 5-10 was out of the question. let me know if you guys would be interested

thanks
Rob

Posted by: Lawson1024

I don't understand why selling 10 is out of the question. Surely refusing to sell your stock is bad for business?

Posted by: totaltoanage

can we order complete housing? i need the red.

Posted by: pks

If we do order as a group, I'd probably get 2-3 for myself just in case anything happens to my phone later on. Might be safer to get a few, as not many places stock them anymore.

Posted by: azn_boi_128

i want one white 903 one grey 902 and 1 black 802

ONLY if its full hopsuing w/ keypad

my msn is acuratl300hp@msn.com

let me know thx guys

Posted by: 4flava

I also want 1 white and 1 black 903 housing and like azn boi, ONLY if its full house w/ keypad.

Posted by: yokomoto

If possible, id like a red and a white 903sh COMPLETE housing just like Jimmy =)

Posted by: himeko

questions:
-approx expected price?
- can we install these ourselves, or do we have to send them to others to do it for us? (ex. timsta?)
- what does 'full housing' include? even a new screen??

Posted by: bnk0430

If it's a complete housing I'd like black and red one as well.

Posted by: Junglizt1210

if we could get a batch price and then divide that by the number of housings for the average price, this would be cool for everyone who's interested...!

Posted by: ace587

ya im looking for a black housing

Posted by: jon_jai

i'm looking for black housing too!

Hello,

I would like to purchase the Sharp 903sh black housing. What is the price include shipping to Canada, Toronto?

--
Thanks,
Jon Hong

Posted by: shaznizzle

Im interested!!

But how does the housing goes about?

is it 2 parts?

1st - Main Body (White, Red, Black)
2nd - Side Stripes (Silver)

Posted by: Kevbodian

I have a 903 housing. Only thing is it's not new. It has some scratches on it.

Or you can have Softbank give you a new housing. It costs about $130 and takes a few weeks.

Posted by: xinhang

is the housing actually easily changeable. if it is im REALLY interested in it. i will probably sell my n73 right away and get another 903

Posted by: pks

What procedures are involved if I was to get one from Softbank, except I'm in Australia?

Posted by: Junglizt1210

I do wonder whether they would service a phone that fits into one or more of these categories:

1) Phone isn't Japanese stock
2) Phone is unlocked
3) Phone has been flashed

hmmm........... *scratches chin*

Posted by: Rob187jj

hey guys, i picked up a mint red 903 tonight, im not looking for housing anymore, so if u guys wan go ahead without in contacting foreways, go for it.
Rob

Posted by: pks

Just got more info from Foreways. Casing is used, $64.50USD each, minimum 30 pieces.

Posted by: jon_jai

used and its still 64 USD?
wtf

Posted by: pks

Tell me about it!

Posted by: Ultraman666

Wow that is crazy cheaper to just buy a broken one on ebay then you will have extra parts!!!!

Posted by: jon_jai

Anybody tried emailing http://www.cnn.cn/shop/ ???

Posted by: hippostages

humm... anyone know where we can get a FULL complete housing for the 903SH yet?

Posted by: Ng-83

I also need a full red housing with keypad if the combine ordering is still on.

Posted by: ace587

i need a red one

Posted by: herpa73229

I would like to be part of it. I will get 5 pieces of blacks.

Actually, I contacted them as well, but not knowing the mininum order is quantity of 50.

I'll need the entire front housing (the biggest piece with vodafone on it plus the two small pieces above it).

Posted by: totaltoanage

soooooooooooo yeah is this thing going anywhere?

Posted by: pks

not very likely. we haven't even found a supplier selling it brand new...

Posted by: herpa73229

So the ones Foreways is selling are old? How did they manage to get that many used 903 housings? I thought they were in manufacturing not recycling?

Posted by: pks

Not sure. I was talking to Jacky from Foreways on MSN and thats what he told me.

Posted by: Rob187jj

i dont have a 903 anymore but im still interested in a few pieces but it doesn't look like anyone has them except foreways (they're used+expensive). and i talked to someone who knows a great deal and he told me that used housing is bad. bent and dirty clips, etc.

Posted by: privity

want one white and red for my 903!!!!

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

Can anyone explain me what`s the point in changing one used housing to another used housing? Are people really buying this?

Posted by: herpa73229

still wondering where they picked those up.....they're not in recycling why they buy back so many housings that are in bad shape?

Posted by: Rob187jj

the only thing that makes sense to me is maybe he bought/kept the old housings from other people that bought new housings

????

Posted by: xinhang

You know instead of replacing the housing. there is an easy way to get rid of the scratches on the glossy surface. its called ipod surface scratch removal. seen it few years ago at my friend's place and it WORKS.

are u talking about those scratcher removers/polishers for iPod like above?

don't waste money, I have bought one and tried it....IT WILL NOT EVEN REMOVE A SLIGHT MARK!

I think CNET did a test on those, and the result wasn't good.

Posted by: ztEnDLesS

Hey! If you do ever happen to find a place that has new housing for the 903, id be interested in a white one! ^_^
I just bought the white remote controller for my phone and so now I want to make it all nice and brand new again <3

Posted by: Ng-83

found a replace housing on ebay... think they only have one

http://cgi.ebay.com/100-ORIGINAL-SH...1QQcmdZViewItem

Posted by: pks

I've ordered from the same seller a few days ago. He states that the housing is used, but in grade A condition. When I receive it, I'll let you guys know.

Posted by: privity

anyone knows wt store can help us replace the housing? and how much would that be? in toronto..markham/scar

Posted by: ericxd

dun even think bout pmall last time i took my k790a there to change a lens and none of the stores in pmall will do it...so hosuing probably NO

yea i saw that one as wel, but a bit more pricey.

I found this one for a bit cheaper:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...88884&rd=1&rd=1

seller claims taht its 100% ORIGINAL, REMOVED FROM SOFTWARE ERROR HANDSETS.

GRADE A

so... dunno, i'll let you guys know if i receive that one as well

EDIT: ONE MORE AVAILABLE FROM THAT SELLER! there were like 3-4 left when i bought one

Posted by: pks

Finally received the housing, so I decided to post some images to share with all of you. The sale did not include the hinge/rotating assembly. The condition is not all that great. Anyhow, here goes.

This is the complete set of housing I received.

This is the keypad. Condition is pretty good for this one.

Battery cover and rear housing.

The eBay item initially did not come with the top assembly. I contacted the seller and was told of its poor condition, hence it wasn't included in the sale. Got this item for an extra 2 pound. Notice the heavy wear on the silver frame. There are also alot of minor scratches on the piano finish.

Notice how the speaker piece is missing.

The Vodafone badge is also missing.

Notice how there's a small crack on the circular frame. I'm not sure if this piece is even usable.

Enjoy!

Posted by: satisfcuktion

Wow, horrible.

Posted by: Ultraman666

Damn grade A hell I would hate to see what any other grade looked like hope you didnt pay all that much for it

Posted by: ericxd

dude total if i was to buy the housing from FONEWEAR cost 75 CANADIAN...so yes itz a lot and personally i wouldnt say itz grade A more like B or b-

Posted by: pks

Got a few more housing for 903SH, except these were in excellent condition. I personally rate them 9.9/10, with a few fingerprints here and there Got it from the same seller, no keypad, no Vodafone badge and speaker piece on the top-inside assembly. This time, it came with the hinge assembly! Here's some photos.

Posted by: ericxd

much BETTER but expensive!

Posted by: pkzild

can't wait for my stuff.... lets see if what I got for cheaper is worth it, and is better than what pks has.

Posted by: pks

Where did you ordered yours?

Posted by: pkzild

here: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...88884&rd=1&rd=1

Posted by: ericxd

how come noth of thses housing include speark piece of vodafone badge below the screen?

Posted by: pks

Maybe they're worth gold by themselves? :P

Posted by: hunnibear

so where are you taking it to get it changed??

Posted by: martindesu

How can we change the LCD housing? This is all I am stuck on now!

I am so close....

Posted by: mac000

You will have to remove the piece that is covering the speaker and the "vodafone" piece near the bottom. Both are glue on and will show wrinkles after they are taken off so be careful. The screws are underneath them. Use a needle to pry them off a little, the glued pieces I mean.

Last pic looks like a 904sh or at least not for a 903sh.
None of them ships outside of Taiwan, even if they did you're willing to pay $100+?

guys..can you find 903sh main board there?i cant read chinese

Posted by: marco712

lol that'd be awsome if you could switch a 903 screen for a 904 screen

er.. Taiwan's Yahoo Auctions dude.

Posted by: AL9999

If you could actually put a 904 screen in a 903 and connect it up properly, you'd have the problem of the screen displaying only in the top left quarter of the 904's screen. There's no point

I'm up for a group buy... I need RED. Willing to give an arm and my legs for it right now (After all, all you need to operate a phone is one hand anyways... also, replace the word phone with penis and you're all set )

EDIT: If we have anyone on HoFo who lives in Taiwan and wants to make a little profit, maybe we can get some from Taiwanese Yahoo! Auctions?

Posted by: aw614

yeah I'm up for a group buy if possible, would like a red or black, red would be nice for a fun project though, before buying a housing on ebay.uk in black

Posted by: mac000

It's a rip off guys. $100 for each, 80% new, $150 for mint cond.

Posted by: Rob187jj

i gave up on this long long long ago, wayy too much of a ripoff. if u guys ever find them for under $50 a pop, msg me, i might be interested

Posted by: martindesu

that's not bad. how did you get all the housing off? I got stuck with the last bit on the twist.

Posted by: aw614

well it seemed a lot like a puzzle removing the parts off, everything that came off, was in a sequence. THe twist? Do you mean the part where the screen turns? Or the flip portion? With the screen part, I kept the inner screen as it was in good condition, and then used the near outer silver parts and mixed it in. Later on I may switch the inner screen as the new one has less scratches. I did not remove the LCD screen at all.

WIth the flip portion, I was using the needles, needed to unscrew it, then playaround with trying to get it off, after one piece came off, the rest came off easily.

But the biggest problem is the housings on ebay, not that grade A, more like B/B+ and they do not include the antenna on the phone nor the little magnet, you have to make sure you swap those into the new housing or you'll be banging your head why the camera isnt changing to horizontal or why you arent getting any reception. A bit of a pain, along with the two bottom screws near the battery are stripped now on my 903. Meaning no red housing search for me unless I get some philips screws as a substitute.

But overall, changing the housing is fairly easy, I didnt think it was that hard, other than the whole screw drivers, if it wasnt for the antenna I wouldnt have stripped the screws and would have been done in two hours

Posted by: sirmikealot

I'm not sure anyone will be interested in this, as it's a 902 housing, and it's mighty expensive. But it is the red Ferrari one, selling at £60 ($120) but I'm guessing might take less and is open to offers.

ebay - ferrari housing + keypad

Posted by: KBoardBox

Yeah, rare, but missing the siding on the hinge and the little flaps that cover the headset port and likely missing the same cover over the charging/sync port. The housing I bought off of eBay was missing the same, and also missing the SD slot cover and the little "Vodafone" branding on the top cover . Other than that, it was like brand new and very clean.

Posted by: sirmikealot

I just noticed it when scanning ebay, also seen this is anyone is interested

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100-ORIGINAL-...bayphotohosting

Would never do anything like this myself, probably break it!

Posted by: aw614

I guess the other seller I bought mine from ran out of housings.

Its really not that hard to change it though, if you actually buy the housing and compare it to the real one you can pretty much figure out what comes off and how.

Posted by: hibiki0104

i really would like to sell my broken mint conditon 903sh red housing for 40 bucks. but it i dunno how , since i havent got paypall

Posted by: aw614

My successful transplant

The only piece that needs work is this piece, I'm either going to paint it or strip the silver paint.

This doesn't look too bad.

The only driver you'll need, I rarely see it on ebay though.

if you get it are you planning on saving the housing too?

Posted by: hibiki0104

red silver looks nice thou. rather than red black

Posted by: aw614

btw dont forget to replace the two mics for the 903sh, my sister called me today and she couldnt hear me, look at the old keypad housing and there it was, the two mics, damn those ebay sellers include nothing, no antenna, magnet and no two mics, also figured out a small solution to my bad screws. I couldnt remove one of the bottom ones, but I removed one. I have a broken iriver mp3 player, it uses phililps screws, and the same exact size, using that for now on one of them, gotta get the other screw out and replace it since it works. If I had my way, I would replace all those 5 star screw drivers with mini philips screws much like how the korean phones have their phones screwed together.

for the mic, I had to struggle with it as one screw was holding the sides together while I got three off, Got the one on top working, the bottom one was PITA to get off.

pics for viewing and my advice, make a check list for everything

and the one of the two little evil pieces

Posted by: KBoardBox

Don't forget the piece that covers the video-out/headset port!

And damn, I need to get that driver. hahahah my housing-transplanted 902 is so incomplete.

Thanks. It's the poor man's version of pure black. Seriously though the pure black sx833 is rare but how rare is a pure black 903sh.

Posted by: DarkStarz

So is anyone buy a new housing for the 903?
To be honest, i did not read through all 8 pages; saw the nice mod pure black 903.. sexy
But yea.. i'm looking for a black housing (read on the first page about someone trying to get a group of people to buy in bulk)
If still possible, i'd still like in on that... just bought a used 903sh so yea.. i'd like a new casing. If i could make it all black that would be really nice as well =D

(hopes there is a tutorial somewhere on the forums as to how to do it >_>)

Posted by: aw614

I can possibly walk you throught it once finals end. the housings are on ebay uk, search 903 housing

Posted by: pks

Someone should compile a tutorial in PDF with step by step instructions with photos to go with it

Posted by: yokomoto

changing the housing on the 903SH is very simple... the only thing that people get mistaken on is putting back things correctly and knowing what goes where.... thats the hardert part... other than that, taking the 903SH apart must be the most simplest thing in the world. ill also help one my exams are over!! =)

oh, and putting together a pure black 903SH will not be hard at all...

errr.... and i cant believe someone stole my idea of a pure black 903SH and was able to do it before i do. yo, give me some credits... yeah?

If you searched the Sharp forum, you would be able to find my post for disassembling and reassembling of a 903SH.

If you read like 5 posts above, aw614 has already suggested eBay.

Posted by: aw614

any ways to remove the inner screen cover? I never replaced mine, but the newer one I have is in prefect condition. I feel I will strip the screws for the one that holds the inner part of the screen cover

ALso I think I am down to two options for that stripped screw head on my 903...pay someone 25 dollars or destroy the silver portion of the housing when I get my red housing...

anyone want to try? I'll send someone the phone if anyone can think they can get it out.

Posted by: hibiki0104

well, its not perfectly round. still have hope if ur using the bigger philips screw. just make 1 line across the screw head so the screwdriver can fit. that is if u can do it. i can try but once u send me, i wont be able to send back. ask martin why. btw, just send his lcd yesterday. hope he will recieve it. aw614, min tee also offer me to sell the housing. well, ill just see which offer the best coz min tee havent offer me price yet.

Posted by: martindesu

You could get that puppy out by bashing a flat head screw driver physically into the screw. It's been threaded so much though. They aren't strong at all.

Anyone try to change housing from 904sh to 903sh? Its possible?

Posted by: simplex123

do u guys make the pure black 903sh with the black and red housing?
cuz i have a question.. isnt the silver part connected to the black piece.. and isnt the red part connected to the black piece? :S

Yup you combine red and black housings. The silver piece for the black 903 and black piece for the red 903 are not connected, so that's why the pure black 903 is possible.

Posted by: aw614

only thing is the back part where the IR is. It either has to be painted or you could try to take the paint off the old black housing portion where it will turn black...

actually, you forgot one HUGE problem. to get the black trimmings from the red 903Sh, the back camera area cover where it says "3MP auto Focus" is GLUED VERY VERY HARD to the black trim of the red phone. BE EXTRA Careful or else you will crack that part of the phone (extremely fragile).
Do do force it out by simplying pulling it out slowly. Take a razor or something sharp to slowly cut away the glue as you do it.

hmm i dunno if this is off topic of not, but i was wondering, whereabouts should i sell my housing for 903sh? well i have a broken 903sh and i heard you can sell its parts on ebay.. like the housing, or whatnot..but would ppl even buy it?

Posted by: yokomoto

BUMP, anyone who have 903sh and 904sh know its possible??

Posted by: janpan

Approx. how much does it cost to get housing changed?

I'm in the GTA, so I'd assume this could get done at Pmall or FMP

Posted by: yuuki888

is it possible to put white housing on a black 903sh
if so i'd like to know where i can find new black or white housings

Posted by: aw614

it is, possible, but most housings do not come with a keypad. if you can get a keypad, I think it would be an identical white

Posted by: santorku

Anyone happen to have a white housing/keypad? Really want one. thanks.

Posted by: +leahcim

anyone have a guide or anything to take apart the 903? So then i can repaint the shell or ATLEAST replace it

Posted by: martindesu

There's a guide on here. Also search for a thread I made regarding taking it apart. It is NOT easy. There are photos going with it.

I also have a white housing/keypad, but it's going to cost a full phone as I am not stripping out a new 903SH.

Posted by: aggro

I am very interested for a full 903sh housing with keypad, red (best) or white. I search it from 3 months

Also, anyone try to change housing from 904sh to 903sh?

Posted by: martindesu

you can't change 904sh to 903sh or vice versa.

I have 903sh for sale, but not the housing separately.

nooooooooooooooo the white 903 is MINE!

Posted by: KBoardBox

Ugh, I'm still looking for a full housing for a 903, and I don't care what colour it is at all. Anybody have any leads here? It's either a German eBay store that doesn't take PayPal (which I can't read), or Asian auction sites which won't ship to Canada (and which I can't read).

Posted by: aw614

i guess uk ran out, you could try yahoo japan auctions and then use a middle man service

i looked at the one in germany, if you can somehow communicate with that sellerm aybe they can ship? They do ship around to other eu countries...maybe they can consider usa...I dunno how the vw guys in the usa do it, but they somehow get these germany ebay guys to ship wheels to the usa and various other rare parts

fairly good pictures of taking the 903sh apart

Posted by: KBoardBox

Nice. I've done it a few times already though. Really not that hard with the right tools.

Posted by: aw614

yeah same here, just posted it for those others that are interested.

btw there seems to be a mint white one that is faulty on ebay, maybe you should get it for the housing

Got a link?

i got a red sx833 today, it doesnt turn on, but it is in really nice condition exterior wise. Not sure what to do with it, looks like it has been opened up before, at the top portion so I dont know if it needs a reflash or its water damage as the sticker is removed.
pics...

Posted by: KBoardBox

Cool, thanks. Doesn't show up in eBay Canada for some reason...haha

Doesn't turn on eh? When was it manufactured?

Posted by: aw614

its an august 2005 build. I put it my 903sh battery that I was using today so it had charge

Posted by: KBoardBox

All the Sharps support Flash wallpapers. I have a few of them as well, and I'll post them in a bit from my PC (my Mac here doesn't have them) if no one else gets to it first.

Hi. I purchased a 903 a little while ago but the phone does not detect when the flip is open or when the screen is rotated into camera mode. Based on my research here, I have concluded that it must be a problem with the magnets in the hinge. I have tried to disassemble the phone but I do not know where the magnets are actually located. Can someone post a description or a diagram as to where exactly the magnets are inside the hinge? Thanks in advance.

it is located on the top hinge. twist the screen where you see the square covers, its located inside there faceing downward.

I was lucky to obtain a new housing for my 903sh...

I'm now just wondering about the screwdriver to take the thing apart. I see these 5 star screwdrivers on ebay...but don't really want to wait 2 weeks for shipping.

Can these be purchased at hardware stores or maybe a cell phone shop/mall kiosk?

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Posted by: KBoardBox

The only screwdriver you want to use on your 903 is the BAKU one. It's pretty hard to come by, but sear on eBay Singapore and ask the guy nicely and he will probably ship it to you (as he did for me). Any other "Sharp screwdriver" you find on eBay will strip your screws and mess things up.

http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/BAKU-Screwdr...1QQcmdZViewItem

thats the screw driver that works.

hmm ebay.uk has black housings again, same seller I got mine, but they forgot the antenna on the housing...grr...

Posted by: AL9999

Speaking of housings, I don't suppose anybody has ever seen housings for a Euro 703 dark grey colour? I just bought one from Spain a little while ago, but it's quite worn out. Also the flip hinge is very tired and the flip sags a bit if you hold it upside down, is there a way of tightening it up?

btw, how bad is the hinge? I keep hearing things that it has issues and it worries me from trying it. Its not like how the 903sh hinge loses its stiffness but still feels solid?

Posted by: AL9999

Thanks martin :P

Actually my 903's hinge is still stiff, amazingly. I take great care of the phone, but I'm still amazed by how well it's lasted, considering I've been using it for nearly two years now. Maybe the fact that it's made in Japan has helped.

Maybe the fact that the 703, on the other hand, is made in China hasn't helped, lol.

The 703's hinge is very bad. If you hold the phone upside down, the flip actually falls down slightly from the phone's base, enough to turn off the external screen and turn on the internal one. It's really quite worn out. Don't know if it's the previous user's fault through abusive use or if the phone is just assembled cheaply in China. He said he used it for about a year.

Posted by: martindesu

I would hazard a guess that it's both factors.

Too much lube is a bad thing

Hi, I got some scratches on the screen of my 903. I wonder which scratch remover or lens polish is the best for 903's screen. Also, how much does brand new 903 full housing usually cost? Thanks=].

Posted by: KBoardBox

They're pretty rare, but there are two on eBay going for around C$60. Scratch removers...I have no idea. Those iPod ones I guess?

Posted by: Evizerate

Alright thanks. Hehe, I was wondering whether I should change the housing if I accidentally bought the wrong scratch remover and mess up the display. So yeah, would like to know what brands of scratch removers to get locally in GVA =D.

Posted by: KBoardBox

lol not a clue. Maybe somebody else would have an idea?

Posted by: auram3i

Looking for a white 903SH battery cover or housing! =(

Honestly, all I need is the just the battery cover since my battery cover is beaten up to bits.. But I don't mind buying the full housing in case anything else gets beat up in the future.

I'm willing to buy a white 903SH phone if it doesn't work anymore or you don't want it, simply to be used for parts.

Posted by: KBoardBox

lol there were two on eBay recently; dead white 903s.

Yeah, I saw but I didn't have my 903sh back then. =( The person who I bought the 903sh from didn't say the battery cover was so beaten! >_< It's like a nice front but a ugly back lol

Posted by: aw614

you can try yahoo japan to get one then through a 3rd party service try to get it to where you are at

Posted by: KBoardBox

Wouldn't add a lot of cost? I mean, seems like it's going to be pricey to do that.

Posted by: aw614

well I used it to get a desktop charger, won it for 500 yen, but overall was like 2200 yen or so b/c of comission, so less than 18 bucks total

Posted by: KBoardBox

Wow, that's 300% more expensive...well, the fact that it was cheap to begin with makes it OK I guess.

Update: I opened the phone and did not find the magnet(s) anywhere. I had purchased some magnets with adhesive backing at a convenience store a couple months ago and I ransacked my apartment to find them. At a loss, I finally noticed that there were magnets on my refrigerator. I used a pair of scissors and cut one of my refrigerator magnets to pieces and moved it around the hinge of my phone in the hopes of some sort of screen response.

Well it did not work. I was about to give up but I decided to try another refrigerator magnet that was thicker. As the magnet was much stronger, my phone actually recognized the magnet and the screen changed orientation.

At this point I was ecstatic. But it took me another 4 hours to shatter the thicker and much more brittle, magnet into fragments, find the proper position relative to the other magnet in the screen portion of the flip and lodge it into the right side hinge.

Ultimately, I slept at 5:00 a.m. and woke up at 8:00 a.m., in time for my internship although extremely tired. The phone saves pictures a couple of seconds faster now that I can rotate the screen and use the camera in landscape orientation. However, it makes me wonder how many pictures I have to save in order to account for the total 5 hours I spent replacing the magnet in my hinge.

Holy cow that's DIY hardcore-ness...hahah

Just go nuts and take pictures of your entire life...hahah

Posted by: aw614

there are black housings on ebay.uk again, but it costs over 100dollars! but it looks to be japanese and not uk

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-Sharp...VQQcmdZViewItem

Posted by: KBoardBox

That's disgusting...so expensive! But it also looks new.

Posted by: v1etnammer

I was looking for 903 housings and came across that item on ebay as well, do you guys think its worth it? I can't seem to find housing anywhere else, and do not know if there are places which can do full housing switches for me in the GTA. I have never opened up a cell phone in my life and am a little hesitant to open up my 903sh in fear of damaging the internal parts and whatnot. Is it risky to switch the housing myself? I have a guide to disassembling a 903 and it looks simple enough, its just putting it back together that worries me. Either way, what are your guys suggestions to purchasing that housing off ebay and me doing the switch myself?

Posted by: aw614

i have portions of red sx833 that I was saving for a friend...just the red stuff though

Posted by: v1etnammer

I actually have the red 903. There is no vodafone or any wording on the front at all, not sure what make it is. Originally, I was only looking for a battery cover but noticed dents and nicks near the top front of the phone where the hinge is. Are you by any chance selling those parts of your phone?

Posted by: aw614

this is what you have?

idk I need to ask the friend first, I had it listed on bst before i told him, but i am not sure

Posted by: v1etnammer

Not sure if there is a difference in red models but this one has a black trim and is a deep red and looks a little bit sparkly or glittery in the light.

edit: Its the SX833, says so on the side, forgot to check

Posted by: aw614

yeah its sparkley a bit..

Posted by: v1etnammer

Yea, so when you find out from your friend whether or not you can sell the parts, do tell
I see that you've done a lot of modding to your phones and was wondering how difficult it would be for a noob like myself to do it. I checked the guide, and saw how there were two initial screws you must remove near the battery. I checked my sx833 and saw that there was only one screw whereas the other had a little sticker which said "void" on it. Will this be a problem?

Posted by: aw614

with the void sticker just stick the screw driver down there and break the void you can just unscrew it out once that sticker is broken, it is a sticker afterall

Posted by: v1etnammer

Oh no, I was just wondering if it would prove to be a problem in terms of build quality. I only ask because I bought this off ebay and it seems the more I look at the phone, the more it seems to differ from the seller's description, and I'm just worried this phone could break apart any second or something. And for the required driver, can I only use the baku driver sold by ready4trade or are there any that can be bought in your average hardware store?

Posted by: aw614

care to post pictures of the phone? I think I know which one you are talking about. you can use a flat head screwdriver, but a baku is much easier and less chances of stripping the screws (as I would know from experience)

Posted by: v1etnammer

What kind of pictures are you asking for? of the damages? and after looking at the screws, a flathead doesn't look like it would fit well, so I guess my best solution are the baku drivers. I guess I'll just order some once I can find some housing for the phone *wink wink* lol
I was looking through the guide for disassembling the phone and saw that the top part of the phone (with the screen) comes off as one piece, so will i be able to change the housing on that without having to use a whole new top?
