V551 Flex Cable Installation

Hi,

Happy New Year to every one.

A while back in December, I posted a message about my V551 going blank/black.

Several responses suggested it might be the Flex Cable. I followed several instructions, particularly one from the service manual (v551m.pdf) and also from http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=336305, and opened the phone.

Yes, the flex cable was so worn out and broken around the hinge between the flip and the housing. So I ordered one OEM one from www.wholesaleoem.com (Brooklyn, NY).

When i was trying to install the flip into the flip assembly, i noticed two things: first the flex cable was too long..ie, it took some really pressing it down to fit neatly into the flip housing. secondly, the other end that connects to the LCD (flip part) was too wide to thread neatly through the hinge. In the end, I squeezed it a bit, and it went through.

But then, in trying to connect the flip hinges, I ended up ripping the new cable. I am trying to contact the vendor for a possible replacement.

But I have a question: shouldn't the flex cable be an exact replacement of the OEM...this is supposed to be OEM, but when i compare it with the original, it is slightly longer, and the top end is wider.

If you have recently replaced your flex for V551, where did you buy yours...

Regards, MN

Most of the new flex cables that I have seen do have a fatter end (the end that connects to the motherboard) if you look right above the connector, you will see a line that is of different color than the flex cable. I just cut the flex cable there. It will not do anything (functionality wise) to the cable. I do apologize if I am not wording this correctly.

Tyler,

thanks very much for your advice and the suggestion.

one question though, is the line just before the two little holes on the flatter end of the cable ?

Yes. Cut right where the two different colors colide/meet and it will be a perf fit.

The cable is fatter at the end for final QC to test the cable. Yes, you have to cut the extra off. It IS tricky threading the end through the hinge assy; start at the flipe end and then work it through the hinge assy and end at the main pcbd.
