V635 and weak "crackling" bluetooth connection.

I have searched and didnt really find a lot of info on my problem. When i connect "any" bluetooth headset to my v635 if the phone not within 3 feet the sound crackles like its gonna loose the connection.. I have flashed the SW to diff versions and they all have the same problem. I have even taken the phone apart and tried to see if there were any "visible" problems.

Anyone else have this problem or had the problem and fixed it??

Thanks!

J.

Really? There are plenty of Motorola models that have had same issue - posts abound!

The problem gets worse if you have knockoff headsets. Or have the phone on the opposite side of your body from the headset.

IIRC, the BT chip is in the bottom of the phone (my schematics are at home), near the data/charge connector. A bad place if you normally have the phone "antenna up," IMO. No amount of flashing is going to change that

Hmm. I have a Jabra BT500 headset and I'm always blown-away by how far away I can be and still maintain a link. Sometimes I find that my headset is in another room and I accidentally left it on, so I answer my cell w/o the headset and wonder why I can't hear anything. I can then run to the headset and use it just fine... wow.

Anyhow, I read once that the metal rear faceplate of the V635 doubles as a bluetooth antenna. If you remove the battery cover, you'll see a tiny spring-loaded gold pin next to the external antenna connector. It normally makes contact against the metal battery cover. If what I read is true, you might want to make sure that the connection between the pin and where it makes contact with the plate is clean (q-tip w/ alcohol might be useful here).

Interesting - all the faceplates I own have what appears to be a coating where that pin would make contact. Perhaps I should remove some of it and try it...

Of course, the OP never stated WHICH headsets they tried, only "any." If that means "any" Moto headset, then we don't really mean any

Does the normal antenna have anything to do with the BT signal?? I have been noticing more dropped call lately also..

I suspect that coating is conductive and is meant to roughen-up the surface and give a better connection to the pin. I wouldn't remove it.

Yeah, it looks "kinda" like a paint, but on a second look it seems etched. In that case, I should probably remove excess powder coat from my other faceplaces...

Then again, the OP may be sitting in the middle of a mountain of 2.4GHz cordless devices...

I have tried the H500, H700 HS850 and my wifes Jabra HS. They all do the same thing. Even in my Acura if the phone is in my pocket or in the trunk area (in my gym bag) it starts to crack up. It works fine if the phone is in the cup holder.

Bluetooth is inherently weak. It's generally not strong enough to go thru walls, so I would imagine that it wouldn't be strong enough to go thru a gym bag, any metal supporting the back of the back seat, the foam of the back seat, the leather, you get the idea.

My V635/HS850 works great with the phone in my right coat pocket, phone holder on the dash, in the ashtray, in my charging cradles...

The thing is that my wife has a V3i that works great with all the headsets and in the trunk of the car (inside her purse that's usually inside her gymbag)..

Then I can only suggest that you buy a V3i? Cuz no amount of beating your head against your V635 is likely to solve the problem

V635 - bluetooth v1.1
V3i - bluetooth v1.2
