I tried to see if I can get the battery/signal strength displayed in my Acura hands free link system with JETware Mobile and this is the email I received from them.

"We are developing Synchronization Profile support, which should work on the BlackJack, but that will not allow us to provide signal strength and battery charge indicators, just phonebook sync to devices that support the Sync Profile. Sorry.

I’m hoping that enough BlackJack owners – or potential owners – will let Samsung know that they should release an update to support the Audio Gateway extension APIs specified by Microsoft.

Regards,
Jim Thatcher
JETware Mobile Software"

So I propose all of us who care email Samsung regarding this issue
Here is the link Samsung Email For question type put it as "Complaint"
Im hoping Samsung will receive enough complaints that they will provide us with the Microsoft bluetooth stack.

Thank you for starting this thread! I just sent off my email to Samsung requesting bluetooth enabled voicedial as this is sorely missing from such an otherwise feature packed device.

Posted by: I have a phone

sorry to report I don't see this happening at all in this mobile. Maybe something down the line though

Posted by: Death_Dealer

bump for this thread, please summit emails, we need this resolved.

This should be a lawsuit actually as the manufacturer fails to inform you of the device shortcoming.

Posted by: mulletwireless

On my BMW X5 I can't get my BlackJack sync correctly so I gave up, a quick fix was the bluetooth handsfree speaker I picked up from Motorola.

Posted by: Slavik?

05 MDX seens to have no issues with BJ and Razor pairings/use. 100% functionality with both phones.

Posted by: caralmar

I have a similar issue pairing my BlackJack with my Nuvi GPS. With my old Nokia phone, I got all of my phonebook, recent call lists, battery indicator, caller id, etc. right on the Nuvi... it was fantastic! With the BlackJack, I can only call or receive a call.... NOTHING else works. GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Friggin fix the broken bluetooth and java stacks!

Posted by: tdawgmd

slavik--does your car report battery levels and signal strength? That's the only thing my 07 TL doesn't do. If you look at the HFL website through acura, the only phones that are fully compatible are the sony ericssons.

This isn't a samsung issue, it's a windows mobile issue--I think we're barking up the wrong tree emailing samsung. I certainly think that the ability to use the phone through the hands free is good enough. While it would be nice if it was fully and completely functional, if I really need to know signal strength or battery level, I can look at the phone.

Posted by: caralmar

Its not just about placing/receiving calls or the battery meter. In my case, I depend on my phonebook for placing calls and the integration of the phonebook to the Nuvi is sorely missed. I also can't decide if I want to take a call or let it go to voicemail because the called id info is not displayed. The bluetooth stack is the problem... whether that is a Samsung/Cingular or Microsoft issue is up in the air.

Not true, the HTC manufactured phones with Windows can benefit from jetware and have no issues with their bluetooth. The signal strength is really important because I don't want to pull my phone out of my pocket while im driving to check it real quick when many other phones don't have a problem, this is what i get for being a guinea pig before Acura hands free link approves of it.

But I still need the phone given its a slim smartphone, I also complained about how its such a hassle to save your contacts on the sim card all at once.

Posted by: mcvosi

Although it would be nice to have all the functionality that the Q had in my BMW, I'd be happy to at least get address book sync working. At least this is SOME good news.

Posted by: tdawgmd

are you referring to loading the address book with the navigation system? My TL doesn't have the navi, but it can load contacts into memory. I haven't tried this jetware program, but it sounds interesting.

Posted by: VelfarreClubber

tdawgmd the 07 TL can upload phonebook contacts but the only ones approved is from the older sony ericsson's

Posted by: tdawgmd

yep--it actually works with my w710i really well. So basically, I used that to upload contacts into the handsfree a while ago, and the blackjack works fine for using what's already in there.

Posted by: Cowboyshootist

I have an 07 TSX and my BJ connects to it just fine. I haven't noticed the battery indicator but I know the signal strength is reported on the dashboard display. I don't have the Navi system, only the Hands Free BT.

As for loading contacts the TSX can reportedly only handle 50 contacts and the ones I have put into the system require a 'voice" prompt so I am not sure how that would work with synch'ing with Windows Mobile Outlook Contacts.

I do have some occasional problems with the phone not being found or the Hands Free not working correctly but it appears to me that the issues are more with the Acura than the phone.

does it show the signal bars or just the indicator with out any bars??

Posted by: jpbadonk

Anyone tried this with Audi BT? Thinking of adding the factory BT to my car...

Posted by: pprezas

I just sent samsung a complaint email. I hope every upset owner does!

Sorry, I had a brain fade. I rechecked it tonight and it doesn't show the battery or signal indicator like it used to with my old Motorola V551. It only displays the HandsFree logo on the instrument cluster.

Sorry for the confusion. Based on my experience the problem, I believe, lies with how the BT stack is implemented on the Samsung. I would think this would be provided by Microsoft but perhaps not.

Posted by: echo1975

man, i'm done with the BJ. now i know why they called it blackjack, just like the table game, it's full of bad beats!
i'm jumping over to the treo 750 and if it has similar problems as the BJ, meaning not as polished as either phone should be, I will go to a Razr and cancel my data plan.
I'm stuck with this POS service for 2 yrs.

if anyone has their 30 day period to cancel, I'd say do it, and go with either VZ or Sprint (depending on coverage of course).

maybe they sell a nuclear powered battery for the phones. if we're gonna die of brain cancer from the EM waves, might as well get some radiation from nuclear power as well!

Posted by: VelfarreClubber

I still think my blackjack is an awesome phone, its no where bad enough at least for me to go with another carrier such as Verizon and get the Q

This is how serious Samsung (and Cingular for that matter) value their customers:

My first email complaint to Samsung:
Poor Bluetooth Implementation and Other Issues
Hello!
This is a complaint about the current implemtation for the Samsung Cingular Blackjack.
1. Bluetooth
It is not fully functional with most car bluetooth systems (like Audi):
- Phonebook won't upload
- No received Calls upload
- No signal strength icon
- No voice-dialing
The previous generation WM5 devices and even WM2003 devices worked flawlessly!
Also, there is no automatic switching between paired devices like older phones are capable off. The tediuous way to activate a device as the desired hands-free device via the Headset Settings is bad. If you have multiple paired devices powered up and in range at the same time, only then does it make sense to manually set the desired device.
2. Voice-dialing
Should be standard on a device like that!!
3. Java
The Java implementation needs to be fixed so that popular apps like Google Maps are functional
4. Battery Life
Battery life optimizations (e.g. more efficient network switching) would be very helpful!
Otherwise the phone is great! But in particular the bluetooth setup seems to be a step back in time as far as functionality is concerned! Especially since the Blackjack is a Bluetooth 2.0
device it should be at least as capable as previous phones!

This is the Answer from Samsung:

This is what i wrote back:
Even if I buy 5 different genuine Samsung Bluetooth Headsets there will be no automatic switching allowed by the Blackjack due to poor implementation of Bluetooth 2.0 technology from your side! This is not rocket science since it was working in phones (even Samsung) for the last few years! What a shame to cripple an otherwise fantastic device in such a way!
It's sad to see that you don't take customers seriously sending me the standard text response!

I just tried a Blackjack for two days. I have an '07 Audi, I was able to voice dial, but the phonebook was unable to upload. I like using the phonebook function because it lists the phonebook next to the speedometer, and you can scroll down or up until you get to the contact you want and push in to call.

I was glad to hear the first poster mentioning that Samsung is working on a fix on uploading phonebooks. My treo 650, 680 and Motorola phones do this just fine.

May I ask how you got voice dialing going?

Posted by: I have a phone

signal strength is displayed in the Audi BT system

On the Audi, my left thumb wheel scrolls radio stations, and the phone directory (which as i said doesn't work yet on the Blackjack; fingers crossed), on the right side of the steering wheel is a button with an arrow icon on it. When pushed this brings up the voice command menu. I think that the button is similar across different Audi models. I am in an RS4, my wife has an A6 and the button is the same, but the commands are completely different. I haven't tried it on her car yet.

Yes in my 2006 A6 it displays the signal strenght symbol but the bars are empty and never change. I only got that to work with older WM2003 or WM5 phones and the JETware Mobile Bluetooth extension program (which is unfortunately not compatible with the Blackjack)! The 2007 Q7 only shows the Bluetooth symbol.

I will check the button in the A6 and Q7! Thanks for that hint! However, to my knowledge, the Blackjack has no voice command function built in unless you use some third party software!?!

As I expected the Audi A6 button mentioned above directs the Audi specific car voice command which includes voice control over CD, Radio, etc. and Telephone. However, you won't have any control directly over the Blackjack like speed dials or phonebooks since that phone has no voice command implemented.

Posted by: firewired

It may be an A6 thing, rather than a phone thing. In my Audi I was able to voice dial with the Blackjack, just not select an uploaded contacts list. The Audi is very specific to the commands given. I think from what I remember in the A6 you may have to be in the phone screen to make phone voice commands, versus in my car you can do it from any screen. So either push the phone button on the MMI or say, "telephone." Once on the the telephone screen try saying, "dial number." If that works, then you know you can voice dial and you can then make the commands to save and dial names. Hope that helps.

I agree it's the A6 that does the voice dial through their MMI system! I was able to voice dial exactly the same way you descibed it above, too. However, what I expected from the Blackjack (and what was possible with other older WM5 phones) is to save voice tags with the speed dial numbers. So what I did on my Qtek 8300 (when it was paired with my A6) for exmaple was press the the voice dial button on the phone (the Blackjack does not have that), speak the the voice tag and the phone would connect the call. No training, no nothing from the A6 point of view. And that basically worked on any bluetooth enabled Audi without any MMI "training/saving of numbers in the car".
The problem with the Blackjack is it does not have the capability to save voice tags and hence the discussion. Also, the same problem exists with any bluetooth headsets that connect to the Blackjack since there is no native voice dialing function!
And I don't want to get into the lack of phonebook uploading function, missing Caller ID...
They really crippled the bluetooth stack on this otherwise great device!!

This looks like the best thread for me to post my observations/questions so:

I have '07 Prius with built-in BT handsfree, It worked really well with my Mtot Razor but I have a couple of issues when utilizing the BJ.

1) I cannot get the BJ to NOT ring when it is paired to the Prius. I'd rather just hear the Prius ring, not both ringers at once. I thought that the BJ would recognize the Prius as a Headset and utilize the Headset settings, but apparently not.

2) There seems to be a serious lag time (5 or 6 seconds) on incoming calls between the time that I press the Answer button on my steering wheel and the time that the call is connected. I have tried numerous settings changes on the BJ but cannot seem to reduce this lag.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ski
