New Cingular customers have it made. Loyal Cingular customers get ripped off. Cingular gets people under contract and then doesn't give a rats behind about them. I've been a Cingular customer for 13 years and had to pay $469 + tax with a $50 mail in rebate.

not if you're an existing customer and you're tryin to upgrade via amazon... they have great deals for existing customers

240 at amazon.com

Posted by: themustafa

I'm posting on it over 1.1 mbit 3g while only paying 200 and only pay 30/mo for smartphone data plan

Posted by: salviati

$189 at Amazon ($239 - $50 MIR). I'm waiting on mine right now.

Posted by: suthurnlatino

COR stores are matching certain retailers price including that of Cingular.com. That is why I asked which store did he pricematch.

Posted by: mochachip

ditto...im trying to get two from amazon at that price as well

Posted by: sportsfreak2159

but with amazon you have to get the 39.99 data plan. radio shack has it at 299.99 and no extra requirements expect a voice plan (any type, no minimum)

Posted by: b3p0

wow... so for an EXISTING customer, who is eligible for upgrade, is cingular the only place i can buy from?

Posted by: mochachip

they dont charge you to cancel the data plan as long as you keep the voice....i know b/c i've done it before

My contract expires in two weeks. I have a family talk plan with 2 lines, 1 of which has the grandfathered media works unlimited plan. Any way I can upgrade to the 8525 through amazon for a good price?

I think you should be fine only because your plan that you were on two years ago probably no longer exists so you can just select existing customer and pick one of the new family plans...you have to select a data plan, but just call cingular and let them know that you want to get a regular media max plan or media net depending on your actual usage instead of the pda connect and you'll be

hey guys - I'm an existing customer as well. I don't see any Family Plan options on the Amazon site? I'd like to get that great price from Amazon by extending my existing contract - is that possible with an existing family plan with 2 addtional lines?

I'm confused how existing customers are getting this great price... is it only available for Single line plans?

Thanks for the help...

Posted by: mochachip

it's available for brand new family plans I think, but I dont think it works with existing fam plans...someone will correct me if I'm wrong though...you could just try to go through with the transaction on amazon and if it lets u then it works

Posted by: newtypeal

$200 after rebate(s) at most online stores.

Posted by: mobilemarketing

I got a corporate discount of 20% on top of the discount for signing a two-year contract as a new Cingular customer. My cost was $264 and I might even be getting an additional mail-in rebate.

Posted by: mush10

I guess I am the sucker who paid 409 on premier. The only plus is I only have to do a one year contract.

Posted by: MREG2

Quick question: I'm leaving Nextel and I am considering getting Cingular and an 8525 with a plan from amazon.com and I was wondering if I could call Cingular later afterwards and apply my 15% student discount. Anyone know?

Posted by: mochachip

yes u can....and mush10 you're not a sucker b/c im also on premier and they told me 409 as well...so we went to amazon

Posted by: njxbean

ok.

I plan on getting this phone very soon. i have a few questions. If you buy this on amazon, are the plans the same price as on cingular?

If i show this to a cingular store, will they price match? ALso, i have read about these devices being locked and unlocked. How do i know if the one im getting is locked or unlocked? and what are the benefits of each? THanks in advance.

I'm in a very similar situation, except mine is an individual account which expired in January. I'm looking to get the 8525 this week as I am going on vacation next week and want it with me.

I am on the nation 600 $59.99 plan with grandfathered $19.99 media works and definitely don't want to lose that, so Amazon seems to be out of the questions because I'm certainly not changing plans. Although that hefty discount is damned appealing.

I will probably just have to go to a corp store and pay out my tail for this unless anyone else has any bright ideas?

Tried pricematching cingular 8525 with Amazon @ Cingular Authorised store,Echelon Mall - we browsed amazon site there and the guy there is too smart,he was referring to 40$ data plan all the time - anyways, after bargaining for 10 more mins,he was down to 325$ from 449$ -- I dint' relent(Im a student and I dont' earn much right now )---story continues.....

I will try pricematching Radioshack's $299 offer @ Monmouth mall...hope I have a phone by weekend...

I was able to price match successfully. they matched the $225 price at amazon AND they had a $50 rebate. so i got the phone for $175!!!

Try a different store. make sure you print the amazon web page. if your in jersey(i know there is a monmouth mall in jersey) i got mine at newport mall in jersey city. Not that far of a ride. and i can even give you the sales reps name.

I was going to hold out on this phone until it dipped below the $300 mark, but amazon may have me convinced. quick question though. I also am on a 5 line family plan and have the grandfathered unlim media net.

if I purchase the unlim pda connect does that terminate the media net? or can they coexist? if they can, then I can pick the phone and package up on amazon and cancel pda conn via cingular 611.

otherwise I will need to ask a rep how it will work..does amazon have cingular knowledgable people? or would I rather ask a cing rep if I can get amazons pda and cancel it without affecting my medianet?

thanks for the info!

Posted by: b3p0

YOu cannot upgrade family plans on amazon, it will immediately get rejected and your order will come up cancelled. I fiddled with with and had numerous conversations with amazon and cingular, and they both kept blaming the other...

If you have been with them for 13 years I am sure the new phones you kept getting clearly pays for itself. These phone cost them $$ and thats where they make the money. I agree though being with a company for that long should get you extra perks. My dad was with sprint pcs for 10 years he was their first 5,000 customer and when we called to cancel they didn't care, they offered him $100 off a new phone and told him he couldn't stay with the 600 minute $30 a month plan he would start all over pretty much except the account # and phone # would remain the same.

I am confused - people have been talking about needing to purchase data packages or new service packages..however when reading the "fine print" on amazons webpage, i see no reference to either??
::Conditional $250 Equipment Discount Included: Your price paid includes an equipment discount of $250 that has been provided to you in exchange for either activating a new, non-substitute line of service or renewing an existing line of service with Cingular, and your agreement that, for the 181-day period following such activation or renewal, you will: (1) pay your balance due to Cingular each month and otherwise maintain your account in good standing; (2) not disconnect this Cingular line of service; (3) not transfer this equipment to another Cingular line of service; (4) not change your Cingular service rate plan to a lower monthly service rate; (5) not use this line of service to replace an existing account with Cingular. If these conditions are not met, you hereby authorize Amazon.com to charge your credit card $250 as reimbursement of this equipment discount without need for further approval.::

can anyone confirm that in fact there is no need for data package and a simple upgrade on a family talk line is acceptable per the bold lines in the above clause?

Posted by: grafik2

so i've found out per amazon's webpage that family talk upgrades are not allowed on amazon.

is there anywhere else that might have the 8525 for family talk upgrades?? bummer that stipulation exists

Posted by: b3p0

i had to bite the bullet and go buy it at a cingy store.

I have since heard that SAMS club has a great deal on the phone for $329 i think, for upgrading... but not sure if the same family talk limitation applies.

Posted by: dvious141

I just got my 8525 from a COR for $299 w/o a MIR or purchase of a data plan. You just have to learn how to "talk" to people. This after getting my Blackjack for $79 w/o a MIR or data plan.

Posted by: b3p0

I dont know if learning how to "talk" helps, but rather if you get the right salesperson. Most of them wont budge, or CANT budge. has nothing to do with how well you sweet talk them.

Posted by: grafik2

COR? are there any places other than amazon that might sell these phones at a discount? i was all prepared to wait a few months till price dropped but i got real excited to see them almost half as much and thought i'd have one soon =\
