OK I'll ask the first question.....
I have the xv6700 and can connect using the wifi in my house. There are 6 other desktop / laptops also connected.

My question is, is there a way to access the shared files on these other computers? I have tried almost everything I could think of. When I go to the router's main page, all the other computers AND my PPC is listed as connected but there is no connectivity between the desktops and the PPC.

It would be much easier to be able to directly download right to the PPC instead of having to get it to the desktop that has activesync, then sync the PPC, and then explore, then drag and drop.

I may not be the foremost authority on remote connections, but Id like to try and help anyways. This is what I know.for PCs theres a program called Remote Desktop. I forget exactly how it works, but I remember reading about remote access online somewhere. I'd do a google search(Id help but I fall into this next category). As for Macs....I remember reading in the paper about a program, something called Soon-E I think, coming outta some company in Campbell, CA, that is supposed to work with Macs. Unfortunetly my ma threw out that particular paper before I had a chance to jot down the info and I haven't heard anything about it since.

Hope that helps!

Download and install orb (www.orb.com). It will allow you to access files on any of your computers from your PPC (need to install orb on the computers aswell).

If you're on your network all you need to do is install the free program Total Commander (http://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm) and navigate to networked drives or folders. It's a program I find absolutely essential for many things on my 6700. - sheureka

Posted by: thedarlington

wow id sure like to see if u can get that going, i love networking its awsome specially when ur working of the lap since u dont tend to have much storage there, a ppc even worse, well it is windows so it should work and a pretty recent one being wm5, i now this works for xp systems, ok thing would be theyd have to be on the same workgroup for this to work so i dont know if you can do that on wm5, go to run u tap the clock on wm5 with the action button or something, and well,,, on computers i just do //desktopname... not the user name but the pc name u assigned while setting up the workgroup, try it out well hope atleast im helping u out with something new case it wont bite for the ppc

ps i have a 6600, trying to flash to cricket does anyone know how to get to the nam on these things? seems like thats it dont wanna brick it i tried some codes from cricket but scared me with the results had to hard reset, word of caution the phone features on these phones are ultra sensible messing, its all software messing up o nthe phone side will mess up ppc side of things apparently

I will be in the market for a new phone soon as my Razr was brutally murdered. I was interested in the XV6700 because if its compactness and attractive design.

I live in an area where I dont get the strongest signal everywhere. I was wondering how the RF is on the XV6700?? Is it on par with Motorola...All i need it to be is better than the LG VX8300 and that will do. Also is the phone reliable? I hate refurbs and going to the Verizon store, so I will need a phone that will last me a year. Help is gratly appreciated.

Posted by: mikewiper

I had the moto 815 and there is a huge difference in the service. the service on this phone is good but does not compain\r with my 815

I've downloaded the Pocket PC version of ACROBAT READER on my XV6700 but it will not install. What am I missing? Thanks so very much.

Posted by: mikewiper

I downloaded a version of AIM and got it installed but it says that im not connected to the internet. on one website i saw a hack so youo were always connected to the internet. i didnt do the hack because of battery life and now i cant find the hack anywhere. any ideas?????

Posted by: AgeNt B

are you trying to do this via wifi or evdo/1x??

Posted by: mikewiper

i am looking to do it through evdo/1x

Posted by: AgeNt B

You actually shouldn't need any hacks when connecting to AIM through the express network. The phoen should automatically be registered on the network at all times.

Hi,

My brother recently purchased a 6700 on ebay. We can make calls and all other features work, but we cannot receive calls. When someone calls - after 4 rings it goes to voicemail. We have hard reset, flashed to the latest rom, talked with verizon techs for hours...to no avail. One interesting thing...if you shut off the phone and turn it back on, you can receive a call...but every call after that goes to voice mail as described above. Anyone else ever experience this? Is the phone a paper weight?

Thanks in advance for any help.

-Tom

Posted by: AgeNt B

It could simply be the ringtone you are using. Try a different one.

Do all the audiovox ppc6700 have the wi-fi feature on them.
Thanks!!!

They are completely different, sure they each have a qwerty keyboard and voice but after that they split. One is a phone and the other is a pocket pc/pda/phone. You really just need to decide yourself do you need or would you use the pocket pc. Do you need mobile email? Do you browse the web a lot? Do you need to view or edit Word/Excel/Powerpoint files on the go? Will you use these features enough to compensate for the added size/weight/complexity and the reduced call quality/battery life/and ease of use? If you have any specific questions feel free to ask them.

I had the V before switching to the 6700... I'll say the 6700 is a better PHONE. The sound quality, speakerphone, voice anounce of who's calling, etc. make it a better PHONE.

BUT...

The 6700 is MUCH more than a phone as someone else mentioned. This is like trying to compare apples to well, a laptop, lol...

If you want/need the functionality of a Pocket PC without having to carry around 2 devices, like I did, it's a good upgrade. If you have little to no interest in a Pocket PC stick with the V.

Posted by: thedarlington

i have a question how would i know if my 6600 is locked by verizon? i bought it off ebay so im guessing maybe to sweeten the deal verizon locks em so people can sell em cheaper, i mean ive tried everything and all i can get is the phone making the call to cricket otasp... and then just stays there 'programming' hen says programming unsuccesful, the antenna thingy wont show bars itll show 3 scrolling suspense dots everything else is correct, oh and 1039 wont work call wont go thru im only using evdo update... ps whats the difference between flashing to jump and to cricket

yes i need mobile email, and i do go online alot and use word
u r right they do slit i mean really the enV is more of amobile media but for that i just got an ipo i mean i dont need it as an mp3 player anymore that is why i used the V so i think i will go with the 6700 thanks for your response
one more thing i noticed that through verizon this phone doesn't have a navigation system like the V but im sure i could just use mapquest or is there any program for this phone thats similar to a navigation system

I picked up the 6700 yesterday to replace my 9800 and i have a few questions of my own.
I'm pretty computer literate (verizon PC tech), but these pocket pc things are all new to me. You definately have to get used to them.
1. I have my 2 gig miniSD card from my 9800, plugged it into the 6700 and it worked fine. Could play music, see pictures from it, etc. But now the phone cant regognize it at all. Any ideas?
2. I bought the data plan for one month to see if i would actually use it (every place i go has wi-fi so its just a test), i read about disabling the EVDO, but would this also disable any PIX messages? I cant seem to be able to send them now, so its not a big deal, jw. Would there be a fix for this if i decided i wanted to buy the data plan down the road?
3. Software. Are there any good sites with free or cheap software for these things? I'd like to be able to use it in class to play games, but the only links ive seen are for likr 20 bucks. get out!
4. Ringers. I read on here about making your own ringtones (was going to do it on the 9800), can this also be used on the 6700, or is there another method of doing it?

EDIT: now i cant seem to get it to sync or connect at all with my laptop...the laptop sees it, but i cant get it to link. I have used activesync before btu now its not working.

Sorry for the newb questions, but you gotta start somewhere right?
thanks in advance,
jeremy

If you convert sounds to .wma and drop them into your \Application Data\Sounds folder, they should show up in the drop-down menu.

I just got mine on Friday and am figuring all this out too.

Posted by: thejoker989

While you're at it you may as well convert to mono and lower sound quality. You can leave it as an mp3 as well. Wavepad is a great program to cut pieces out of songs and save as mp3. After that drop in in your Windows\Rings folder and it will be available.

Posted by: shortbusny

my ringers that i coverted to wma's do show up in the drop down menu,
I highlight and hit ok but when i get a call it reverts back to default ringer'
have tried soft reset to no avail,
any ideas?

Posted by: Chip Canada

Are you sure they're in the "\Application Data\Sounds" folder and not your "My Sounds" folder?

Posted by: shortbusny

yes it is in the apps folder

Posted by: thejoker989

It doesnt matter where they are as long as they get in the drop down menu. I would also make sure the contact that is calling you is set to use the default ringer. Also try to play the ring in windows media mobile and see if it plays right. The problem most likely is a bad .wma file and when you phone cant play it, it reverts to the default ring.

Posted by: shortbusny

thanks but it must be something else, the ringer playes fine, i took it out and i still can only get the default ring and none of the others that came with the phone even tho they show up in drop down.

Call or contact UTStar.com They have unlimited tech support for the 6700 and will help in anyway they can. If you email them (you can find the email address under support on their site) they will get back to you in 24 hours or so...

ok, its time to move on to a different topic. convert any sound to a wav format. this can be don by opening it in window media (on your home pc) click file save as, and rename it ending in .wav (i.e. "mysong.wav") sync your phone, open up "explore device" drag from your pc to the device (do not sync via windows media it will convert it to wma and won't play as an aleart tone, but will play as a ring tone). now on your device copy it to the windows folder. then go to settings and it should be there. you can also set any sound file as a ringtone by simply highlighting the file with the stylus tap and hold it and it will give you a pop up menu. you should see the set as ringtone option. once you select that opt. it will copy that file in the windows/ringers folder and make it available in the drop down........ this should cleare up all the fuss! moving right along now!!!

Posted by: Tyell

now, I have a questionof my own! is it possible to unlock my ppc 6700 gps? I just loaded google maps (if you don't have it, get it http://www.google.com/gmm?source=mobilefe ) and there is a "track my location" option, but it requires gps. I know the phone has a built in gps, but no app to run it... is there any way around that? hlpe please.....

Just bring it into a Verizon store. I had the same problem, and they replaced the entire unit under the 1 year warranty.

Does anyone know of a good snes or GBA emulator that works for this phone?

I am looking to buy a ppc-6700 tommarow, only i am planning on having the phone flashed to use with cricket. can anyone tell me for sure if i will have pic messaging/wifi or will i only be able to place calls? Also the phone is a sprint phone, so if this esn# is no good would it matter since its not going back to sprint anyways? thanks guys!

Posted by: PPCX6700guy

I have the same phone xv6700 flashed to cricket from verizon and the picture messaging does not work, but wifi works even if the phone is not activated so it will work, as far as the esn, it should be just fine.

Cricket Info & Email (mobile web/WAP) works just fine and MMS works depending on what server you hit:

Posted by: 937dytboi

well let me add my problem

I have no sound from my phone at all, except for the connecting sound on the welcome screen. Im confined to using the BT headset to make calls. The speakerphone, earpiece and mic does not work, ive been very frustrated, and i believe my problem cant be fixed through the phone jack jam issue

This has since been resolved for Cricket users--just hard reset and set-up WAP without the WAP proxy settings.

Anyone experiment with loading a distro of Linux onto the XV6700(Verizon based 6700)? If so, what version, and how did you do it?

I'm interested in buying the phone if this is possible, and retains all the previous functionality. I'm really just interested in AIM running 24/7 on the phone, and the ability to watch movies(with subtitles).

as far as i know, putting linux on it would be highly impossible. It just dosen't have the capabilities of such a powerful operating system.

Hey all,

Questions you may be able to help out with:
xv 6700 using verizon AKU 2.5

While using wifi, mms messages do not come through. Can I fix this? If not, no big deal.

I use smsthreader (LOVE IT BLADE. THANKS. SORRY YOU TOOK SO MUCH CRAP FOR IT) anyways, it does eat memory as it's used requiring the occasional reboot. This alerted me to the knowledge that anytime I initiate a reboot for any reason, my today screen background goes to standard. Even when the pic is in local memory on the device. Any thoughts?

I'd like an answer to the 4gig MiniSD question asked

Also as well, any gps functionality in this thing? I've loaded google maps as well and would LOVE to add gps functionality. Thanks!

Mast.

MMS requires the phone to dial-up to the network's data services. The phone will use one OR the other, but not both, simultaneously.

However, if your MMS messages aren't coming through, it's because of one of two things:

--Your MMS may require a proxy to connect. We here in the Cricket forums have since fixed this by eliminating the dial-up proxy altogether. When we need to connect through proxy, we use a third-party web browser such as Opera or Minimo.

--You may need to do the registry hack that allows WiFi and voice at the same time. By default, earlier models of the xv7600 were shipped without this capability, but people have since learned how to bypass this limitation in the registry.

I'm not wise on smsthreader, so I have no advice for you here.

AFAIK, the phone is limited to 2GB. Also I hear that 4GB cards can be dubious--that they are actually 2GB cards formatted as 4GB. I would search more if I were you before taking the risk, unless you can find one for a steal of a bargain.

Mast.

The phone DOES support GPS! It has the GPS circuitry in it already! See if you can download VZNavigator for your handset.

If not, you can always use a Bluetooth GPS adapter. Many users have found success (especially with Google maps) using GPS over Bluetooth.

Good hunting!

Hmm I did the hack This has since been the case. Interesting though. Must be a proxy setup.

Well smsthreader was just a shameless plug to say thanks, and it did make me aware of the problem. (I love that is stores sms in an easy to read html file).

But when I reset my device, the today screen background is set to default. Thoughts?

Just 4 gig would make it even MORE perfect!

Since you're so cool about responding, can you tell me if Opera is REALLY better than IE? In like 1 reason? I'm asking for YOUR opinion, not a link to the site.

2) Can I recieve text messages with just the phone and no EVDO?

3) Will Verizon charge me extra for using this phone?

4) Wil I be able to use Outlook without EVDO and just use it when I am in a Wi-Fi area?

I have ordered it already and should be here in a couple of days....im very excited about it, but also worried becuase im afraid that I am going to have to pay extra....and stupid me didn't do the research before hand(I just wanted it so bad).

Thank you in advance.

Yes. You can. You'll have to download the latest aku from UT STARCOM'S site and flash the phone if you want. Then there are a few threads in here about enabling wifi while using the phone's voice/txt abilities.

Only if you buy services that cost more that are unique to the phone.

EVDO, essentially, is just an internet connection to your phone. Once on it, Outlook looks for it's mail like any other outlook. By connecting to the proper ports on the server you specify. WiFi or EVDO, if it has an internet connection, it'll try mail. Now in ACTIVESYNC you have to tell it that you're connecting to activesync over wireless, but that's only if you're using active sync.

Yup, set your outlook server and ports in settings and give it a wifi connection that it can reach your server on, and GO.

thanks so much for replying man! Im so much more relieved.

I know that you can enable the wi-fi and and phone at the same time by editing the registry.

But what is flashing and is it necessary?

u740 - keyboard sucks imo. way too small. even with my small fingers
Q - pretty decent. and adequetly spaced. (though im not a fan of those plastic stub- type keys.)
xv6700 - will know in a couple days

LG's are pretty reliable.the ones ive had and all reps that I talk to (including my friend who is one) say that Motorolas are the most problematic phones and LGs and Samsungs dont even come close.

EDIT: i see you have the e815...lol.....so you should know about their problems, unless you are one of the lucky ones. mine gave me some issues.

Anyone know how to disable the power on when the slide is opened?

I bought a leather belt case that has a magnet that holds it closed. The magnet seems to be tripping the on switch in the slide. So what happens is whenever I put it in the case, it gets turned on and then odd combinations of button presses occur. This usually requires a soft reboot. I'm not willing to settle for putting it in my pocket.

I am enjoying the motorola s9 with the 6700 and used the download at ppcgeeks to get the s9 talking to the 6700 for music. I tried to make some edits to the registry but I'm not very comfortable in that area and didn't want to mess anything up. I really like the s9 and 6700 but notice that it takes about 1 minute of skips and hiccups before the music plays perfectly. I also have to have the 6700 sitting straight up (I have a case that has it lying horizontally on my belt. Has anyone noticed these problems before and have a solution - especially for the skipping? I read somewhere that there may be some kind of "rate" that should be adjusted in the registry but didn't know how to do that. I did find that the phone fits nicely in an arm band holder designed for ipods and this keeps it in a good position for bluetooth reception when running. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you may have.

for a soft reset, use the stylus to press the recessed button on the bottom...

for a hard reset, hold down both soft keys and press the same button on the bottom...

Little question about something I can't figure out...

I know you can program the hard buttons to do/launch different programs... but where do you put a program to get it on the list? I am trying to get fonix voicedial to be set to a hard key, but cannot get it to run that way...

Hopefully somebody has some words of wisdom.

Thanks!

im not impressed with the level or amount of useful technical data revelent to this phone and it's features and capabilites located in this thread. many novice topics being tackled in this thread.

although i've read much worse on big phone boards.

not to mention all the non-6700 specific posting.

Okay, my XV6700 DOES work with a 4gb card. I bought the card off eBay, it's manufactured by a company called 'TOPRAM' and works flawlessly. (Only complaint is it's a bit slow, but what do you expect from a 4gb) I have about 3.3gb of Anime/Battlestar Galactica eps and the rest is music and it's not just a reformatted 2gb.

Another note, how do you enable GPS, and how do you enable BBA tethering on the phone. Any secret codes/hacks would be appreciated.

yes you can. the data plan is for evdo based dsl. wifi is free

Does anybody know a way to make it so you can text one handed easily?

Shouldn't we make an official FAQ/Guide Thread for the XV6700?

I'm surprised that the Samsung U740 has a HUUGE FAQ Guide on these forums, and it's a newer phone

I use my unlimited text-pix-flix plan without a data plan. It took a while to get it working forsome reason, but all works fine now. REMEMBER when you send a txt, it goes over the reg phone line, but when sending pix-flix it goes over the evdo or 1x data. Remember to shut off the data connection after finished so you don't accidently go onto PIE and get KB charges. I use wifi for internet but there is no way to block the dialup and still use the pix-flix plan. If I click on PIE it will automatically go to the #777 dialup first (KB charges) unless wifi is connected (free)
Good luck

I use the i-737 iblue bluetooth gps antenna with inav software. Works great. Have never had any problems except when the nav software is running, (and this usually happens in an area with lots of turns!) and I get a phone call, the bluetooth shuts off in the phone and I have to restart the program and get the destination again while driving. I have a BT headset I am going to try and use while using the inav to see if it will work better that way...
The phone itself could also be a little louder but it is loud enough unless you have the windows open on the highway. I have a cassette player in my truck so I connect the output jack to the stereo and play mp3's with the inav running. The phone lowers the music slightly, tells the next direction, then goes back to playing! perfect!

I don't know about the golf side of things....

I was given a PPC6700 phone from a friend because he changed carriers. The phone will not activate with the code the Customer Service Rep gave me. The Rep. said the activation code will not work because the phone says "phone off" and it should say "phone on".

After speaking to several tech support staff and then they tell me to take to the phone to a service center, then they say they can not fix it because they do not have the software to reinstall it. (Basically a run a round)

So now I am here for some help. Where can I get the software reinstalled or do I have to send it back to UTSTARCOM to get serviced.

I believe the software is Windows Mobile 5.

Posted by: Zeus974

go to the communication center on the phone and press the phone icon and it should turn the phone on.

If i make ten calls 8 calls with be dropped half way through. When i dial a call it take forever to connect. Whats going on?

This is not the phone for you. I had a Motorola prior to this 6700, the Motorola worked fine, the 6700 does not. I have to use a headset and stand near a window holding the phone in one particular spot in order to get a weak signal. My son had an LG and it worked fine here. (I may have had 2 dud 6700's in a row, but I doubt it) After a year of fighting it - I am on my way to getting a new phone that I hope will work. I am going to try a HTC 4000 (which is the new genertion 6700 if I understand it correctly??) If it works better I will post it to you. I will have it for a 4 day trial next week.

Does anyone know how to contact UTStarCom directly - or the distributor or manufacturer. I want ot see if I can get my 6700 fixed. The dealer I bought it through seems to have no interest in the fact that they have not been able to get it working for over a year -- allowing the warrantee to run out with the problems not resolved. Time to go over there head.

Who owns UTStarCom??

go to www.utstar.com and go to the support section. There are customer support phone numbers there. They offer lifetime unlimited support.

First, THANK YOU to everyone who really helps others. Because of the help we received, my XV 6700 has been up and running on Cricket for 3 months. I'm really happy with and have only had one problem, but I'll save that for another post.

When we first got the phone, my husband saw a post that gave instructions on how to change the startup screen. Right now my screen is white and says Verizon. Does anyone know how to change it? I can't find the post and have spent hours looking.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've updated my 6700 with the AKU 3.5 rom and everything is working fine except for now I can't get internet access when I use wifi. Does anyone know if there are any settings anywhere on the 6700 that may need to be changed to allow internet access? I am on the verizon plan but do not use their data services. I just use internet over wifi. Any help would be appreciated.

can someone tell me how to fix these 2 problems im having?

the little rubber knob on my joystick fell off. any ideas?

I heard thru the grapevine that there was a way to print from the XV6700 to a printer...

My printer has USB|Ethernet|Wireless|BT built-in, so if there is a driver, I should able to print directly to the printer, either thru Bluetooth pairing or thru the Wi-Fi transport.

Ok, who has the driver or knows how to make it work?

Thank you,
john

Nothing native, but I have used PrintBoy: http://www.bachmannsoftware.com/pbce.htm

At $49, it's not necessarily cheap... depends on how important it is to you I guess. I used the 15 day trial and decided that while it worked well, I really didn't have a compelling need to print from my 6700.

hkey_local _machine\control panel\gps setting click on HIDE , change DWORD to 0 (zero) you shuld have 1 .... you need registry program to do that ( i got one from www.resco.net)

I've had this phone since January and really haven't messed with it yet, but I started off with Verizon's Data Package for unlimited KiloByte Usage for $90.00/month. I recently cancelled this package and have been looking at some of the forum's post and see that if you connect to wifi you wouldn't get charged for KB usage(confused). Can anyone explain how to set this up because I would love to get back to surfing the net on my phone without having to pay Verizon's stupid fees. Please give a newb a helping hand

I'm about to sell mine. I got it off eBay a while ago...but a regular phone is just easier to use.

It's still in perfect working order.

You can use your wifi without it being activated by a carrier. Just set up explorer to operate off of wifi instead of the usual cell phone companys network. This is user selectable in the phone.

Thanks

Yes, I have been using my wifi, but I'm interested in making calls and other stuff with my phone. I would really like to use m Sprint PPC with ATT if possible.

6700 uses CDMA technology, Sprint is a CDMA carrier. AT&T is a GSM carrier and uses GSM phones with SIMs in them.. You'd need to get a GSM HTC, the 8125 (wizard) is what the 6700 is based on. That model you can use with AT&T.

Nope, doesn't need to be activated on any network to have the 6700 work as a full blown Windows Mobile PDA with bluetooth and wifi..

Is it possible to output audio and video from the 6700 into a TV? Not sure if there is a cable out there that could connect to the 6700 on one end and have RCA cables on the other. And if there was, could the 6700 output using them? I'm using ORB and wanted to get video off my PC onto my TV. Thanks for any help you can provide.

When I've called customer service they've claimed there is no retention department, so I don't know. Check out ppcgeeks.com re: upgrading; I've read people have done it but I don't recall if they had Verizon or Sprint.
